jpwright··on Let me tell you about a game I made with the sole intention of watching it die
I find the irony of the end result -- Impetus died because the players "suffocated" her, not because they neglected her -- fascinating.
jpwright··on Espruino -- a JavaScript Arduino
Agreed, and it's worth pointing out that this is what Arduino has to say on the matter:

"Note that while we don't attempt to restrict uses of the "duino" suffix, its use causes the Italians on the team to cringe (apparently it sounds terrible); you might want to avoid it. (It's also trademarked by a Hungarian company.)"

jpwright··on Hi I’m Hank, and I bought a bus
I believe songzme is saying that the mindset behind the project is of the type that results in world-changing things. Not the project itself.
jpwright··on NY auto dealers trying to shut down Tesla Motors in NY
That's a non-sequitur to the debate about whether car companies should be forced to sell through third-party dealerships. Tesla already has dozens of showrooms across the country, and yes, they are Apple-Store-esque.
jpwright··on Why j for imaginary unit?
Another interesting side-point -- MATLAB supports imaginary numbers... unless of course you redefine i to be something else. Then it doesn't.
jpwright··on Amazon stops selling Sim City V over game issues
Nitpicking: The name of the game is just "Sim City". They dropped the numbering scheme and went for a total reboot.
jpwright··on The new SimCity
That's absolutely false -- there are some obvious flaws with the game, but the complexity of simulation and macro-level focus is not one of them. I beta-tested, aka I actually got to play the game since all the servers are down.
jpwright··on College professors grading essays purely by computer - is this legit?
Only if students are also allowed to submit essays generated by a computer.
jpwright··on I'm sorry
If you would like some _actually_ horrible open source code to make fun of, feel free to peruse my early repos which are mostly from my freshman year of college (github/jpwright), including this god-awful function I apparently once wrote: https://github.com/jpwright/debcite/blob/master/search.php#L...
jpwright··on Worst Bug Ever
That would drive mathematicians insane, and this is coming from an electrical engineer's standpoint (where we use j instead)
jpwright··on Ask HN: High school senior, deferred from Harvard. Advice?
What's the name of the disorder, if you don't mind me asking?
jpwright··on Show HN: Hey Who should I vote for? (Our Sandy-day-off project)
In general, these questions would benefit from more nuance, as "yes/no" don't accurately portray each candidate's position on a bunch of different issues. Some examples:

- Romney believes the right to abortion ought to be preserved in cases of rape or when there's a threat to the mother's life. - Obama hasn't endorsed raising the Social Security retirement age and campaigned against in 2008, but seemed willing to consider the idea as part of a compromise solvency package during the Bowles-Simpson negotiations. - Obama flat out supports lowering the corporate tax rate.

Also, when someone lands in the middle zone, it doesn't really make sense to say they should vote for a 3rd party as virtually all 3rd party candidates are either to the left of Obama or the right of Romney.

Same here, 1366x768 resolution seems to be too small.
jpwright··on How I Plan to Bootstrap Aspiring Hardware Engineers
I can confirm that there is a serious lack of time spent working on hands-on projects in EE curriculum (at Cornell, in my case).
jpwright··on Apparently Yelp has a no-fly list
That's kind of a silly comment. Obviously entering a building is not a civil liberty; private buildings have the right to enforce security policies. That doesn't mean Yelp shouldn't be held accountable when their security policies are really, really dumb.
jpwright··on A file that's both an acceptable HTML page and a JPEG (view source on it)
Only 3594 errors! http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http%3A%2F%2Flcamtuf.cored...
