But the video is not shown.
jptech··on The mutation that helps Delta spread
I'm curious to know, how does the delay between the first and second shot, and mixing of vaccines that was done in Canada affect thr current infection rate there and the overall efficacy of such vaccines.
jptech··on Apple explicitly asks employees to merge their personal and work accounts
I don't ger this either. With TLS/SSL , how is it different than connecting to any public wifi?
jptech··on Apple’s Mistake
> AND THEN THE PERPETRATORS CAN STILL GET AWAY BY JUST TURNING IT OFF??!??!?!

Not trying to defend Apple here, but we should keep in mind that the goal for Apple is to prevent such photos from being uploaded to iCloud and detecting those that do. If someone turns off iCloud sync, then Apple would argue that it's not their concern to scan photos saved on devices (and thank god it doesn't otherwise the repercussions would have been much more significant).

jptech··on Steve Jobs in Kyoto
If you want to look at it that way, "Shiri" can also refer to 知り which is the noun form or the stem of the -masu form of the verb 知る ("Shiru") generally meaning to know.
jptech··on I Will Never Use a Microsoft Account to Log Into My Own PC
Even without an MS account, when using Microsoft Store with a local account, I won't be surprised if they used some hardware fingerprint such as MAC address to assign a unique ID to that account.
jptech··on I Will Never Use a Microsoft Account to Log Into My Own PC
Correct me if i'm wrong but I think you still need to go online to finish the setup process?
jptech··on Revisiting webcam covers
There used to be a hardware switch for WiFi on laptops not long ago. But being "always connected" took precedence over privacy. Same can be said with microphone and voice assistants.
jptech··on Windows 11, Amazon, and Uncomfortable Questions
Can all of it be disabled? Can you point to how?
jptech··on Microsoft announces Windows 11
Also, Aero is back! Everything looks transparent.
jptech··on Amazon is blocking Google’s FLoC
So your suggesting that add long as our personal information is in their hands and is utilised for maximizing profits but hasn't leaked we shouldn't worry about privacy?

> I never got people complaining about outdated look. When did computers become fashion items, with a new color every year? Last season we went for round corners, but these are clearly out. Today, flat is the new round. Why?

Funny thing is that like fashion it has a repetitive cycle too. Flat with basic colors back to colorful and shaded, back to flat, ... . Probably to look innovative by setting a new trend.

The UI might look outdated, but on the other hand it's light weight and fast. There are a bunch of fancy text editors out there that are simply a resource hog.
jptech··on The 4:6 method for coffee-brewing (2017) [video]
No one here seems to have mentioned stove top espresso makers, like Bialetti. After ceramic V60 it's my second best way of making coffee. Not so conv much richer.
jptech··on The 4:6 method for coffee-brewing (2017) [video]
I used to use the plastic one too, but the advantage of ceramic is that it absorbs the heat, allowing the coffee to brew better.
jptech··on Rotations with quaternions
This is good too.

jptech··on Shameless Work Influencers Are the Bane of LinkedIn
Many use it to just peek into other people's lives and get background info - where they work at, where they're from and where they had studied, etc. Worst case, even stalk.
jptech··on YouTube Will Monetize Videos Without Paying Content Creators
Even if they don't go as far as creating a service to connect the two, they can just require the content creators to declare which products/services they are promoting. See it as a form of combating fake news or informing of bias in political posts. Google being google can connect the dots and squeeze more revenue out if that.
jptech··on A Japanese company cut 80% of the time needed to manually count pearls
Instance segmentation.
jptech··on Aukey kicked off Amazon following fake reviews allegations
For Amazon Japan, there's a site called "Sakura Checker" (https://sakura-checker.jp") which based on the distribution of the reviews and ratings, the grammar and wording, store's reputation, etc., tells how much the chance of reviews being fake are. Interestingly I checked a few of Aukey products and they were reported as highly having fake reviews.
