jpfromlondon··on What killed the Florida orange?
it's also not the only study, just one example, besides that's standard boilerplate CE so as not to assume liability.
jpfromlondon··on Smoking ban for people born after 2008 in the UK agreed
2B if you tease the reality out of the oft misreported figure, and the annual rake from smoking is 8-10B so it is profitable to maintain it.
jpfromlondon··on Smoking ban for people born after 2008 in the UK agreed
in the UK you cannot smoke on public transport or inside buildings, and this is strictly adhered to.
jpfromlondon··on What killed the Florida orange?
no metabolic effects from sweeteners, wish you lot would stop moving the goalposts on why sweeteners are unhealthy:

jpfromlondon··on A Pascal's Wager for AI doomers
Completely true, we as humans cannot see past our own reflection.

We imagine supreme intelligence as approximate to us, when in reality we'd be but ants by comparison, our matters trivial.

jpfromlondon··on NSA is using Anthropic's Mythos despite blacklist
it's a taste of what's to come, the anointed class with access to the latest and greatest model in exchange for favours or $$$$, and an underclass making do with the hobbled toy models.
jpfromlondon··on All phones sold in the EU to have replaceable batteries from 2027
>Thank god the EU standardized on USB-C

Short term thinking, if anyone invents a significantly better connector the eu will lag a decade while they clear the red tape, it hampers innovation inside the bloc people who might otherwise be concocting their own improved connector.

jpfromlondon··on Qwen3.6-Max-Preview: Smarter, Sharper, Still Evolving
right now Gemma 4 and Qwen 3.6, I've found the latter to have the slight edge but your results may vary.
jpfromlondon··on Qwen3.6-Max-Preview: Smarter, Sharper, Still Evolving
anecdotally the quality of output isn't significantly different, the speed seems to be what you're really paying for, and since the alternative is free I'll stick to local.
jpfromlondon··on I shipped a transaction bug, so I built a linter
the best advice I ever received, nearly ten years ago now, from by far the best programmer I've ever met was "be your own linter", an ethos that persists in my approach to writing every single day.
jpfromlondon··on I just want simple S3
would you not just say "edge delivered content"?
jpfromlondon··on The Future of Everything Is Lies, I Guess: Safety
Reddit is over there ->
jpfromlondon··on NHS staff refusing to use FDP over Palantir ethical concerns
it's not an Adam Smith fan club it's an independent research think tank, easily one of the best, up there with Brookings...
jpfromlondon··on Book review: There Is No Antimemetics Division
thank you, couldn't agree more, great idea, amateur execution.
jpfromlondon··on I quit. The clankers won
Oh absolutely, I'll have a poke around.

For the record I'm not an ai doomer, but I am pragmatic, and the lack of hope is merely a foundation.

jpfromlondon··on I quit. The clankers won
hoped for something useful in your link, found drivel.
jpfromlondon··on The Claude Code Source Leak: fake tools, frustration regexes, undercover mode
if you've changed a function and are worried about the reason for the change not being tracked or disappearing, then add it as a comment, the commit message is not the place for this.
jpfromlondon··on 7,655 Ransomware Claims in One Year: Group, Sector, and Country Breakdown
>tech illiterate middle managers

Why they're the very fellows signing the cheques to the:

>clueless ... security industry

jpfromlondon··on I quit editing photos
there are films that are more resolving than even the best digital cameras, unfortunately limited to black and white.
jpfromlondon··on How to Spot a Liar: Kate White on the Techniques of Deception in Mysteries
you only see what the production staff want you to see, things are staged and composited to keep you hooked.
jpfromlondon··on Microsoft's "fix" for Windows 11
'Microsoft was entering a mode called "swarming",'

Swarming, as in locusts, or else flies on shit.

jpfromlondon··on Books of the Century by Le Monde
Woolf had his number, she was right on every count.
jpfromlondon··on Western carmakers' retreat from electric risks dooming them to irrelevance
No one buys mechanical watches anymore it’s quartz or nothing
jpfromlondon··on Austin’s surge of new housing construction drove down rents
truly incredible, instead of subsidizing demand you build more houses and just like that they're more affordable, somebody should write some economic theories on this.
jpfromlondon··on Honda is killing its EVs
in addition to partially complete on delivery, and "oh that feature is actually really popular, lets paywall it in the next release" and other nerfs.
jpfromlondon··on Sci-Fi Short Film “There Is No Antimemetics Division” [video]
thought the idea quite fun, the execution incredibly amateurish.
jpfromlondon··on Badreads
I'm not sure about Sapiens although I am aware of the popular criticism of it, I'm not informed enough to comment on it specifically. But I do take everything that particular podcast says with a mine of salt.
jpfromlondon··on Polymarket gamblers threaten to kill me over Iran missile story
>you could argue that trading stocks based on insider information should be legal

Before Salman vs US (2016) it basically was, how do you think the oracle made bank?

jpfromlondon··on TermF1: A terminal-style dashboard for Formula 1
