joshbaptiste··on Ask HN: How do you deal with getting old and feeling lost?

joshbaptiste··on Slackware 15.0
Slackware is really a small/bare bones distro, "old schoolers" like it because in it's time (90s era) just having a Unix like system on a PC was amazing and it is considered very stable, now that GNU/Linux is everywhere today's distros are just easier to use.

joshbaptiste··on Ask HN: Getting back to C++ and looking for ideas
Ditto, love his videos even though I don't code C++ , Understanding the OS internals, security mechanisms and design decisions are worth it for me.

joshbaptiste··on 20-year-old lost 700k on Robinhood options, takes life
What happens if you over leverage and end up owing your broker after a bad trade and you can't pay it back..
joshbaptiste··on Ask HN: Is there still a place for native desktop apps?
Yea but as a Point of Sale application for retailers.. you have the luxury of running on a consistent hardware platform.
joshbaptiste··on Ask HN: Is there still a place for native desktop apps?
Mainly due to them being both more tightly integrated to C++/Python than JS/TS for building desktop apps.
joshbaptiste··on Show HN: I wrote an open source cloud gaming service by WebRTC and Golang
This is great, you may want to look at getting this to run on retro gaming handheld consoles such as r/Bittboy r/RG350/ r/SBCGaming.. I could definitely see me playing with a friend on a retro console with the multiplayer feature. Not sure if they have wireless capabilities, yet an interesting project nonetheless, thanks for the write up.
joshbaptiste··on Wuhan seafood market may not be source of novel virus spreading globally
I thought of that too, than my tinfoil hat went further on thinking that maybe this is just a QA test, a mild version of the pathogen released to see how far it spreads to fine tune the "production" version.
joshbaptiste··on Snowflake: Graphical SFTP client and terminal emulator with helpful utilities
The old Java GUI = Slow/bad/Ugly, stemming from the 1.(4?)-1.6 days of clunky AWT GUI interfaces.
joshbaptiste··on [dead]
I wonder if Thorium based reactors suffer the same issues at scale.
joshbaptiste··on Hobby x86 kernel written with Zig
Author, if you decide to build more of this kernel any thoughts on providing live screencasts of the implementation like Andrew Kelly (Zig) and Andreas Kling (SerenityOS) on Youtube and/or Twitch. I never realized how effective it is for me to watch others go through the mental process of coding/debugging.

joshbaptiste··on Knoppix 8.6 abandons systemd
I started my Linux journey in ~2002 with Slackware to get ipchains ip masquerade (nat) working for multiple machines to share a modem connection. Today I prefer Arch or Debian but Slack will always be that first that popped the cherry.
joshbaptiste··on Knoppix 8.6 abandons systemd
Exactly, I actually thought Knoppix was abandoned .. The current trend setters I would say are Arch/Nix/Alpine/Ubuntu and their derivatives.
