josefresco··on Run Qwen 3.8 Flash Next (125B) on consumer hardware (RTX 4090) at 100T/s
Don't worry, soon the US will have models with no memory of Watergate or Jan 6.
josefresco··on Google breaks promise to provide 10 years of updates to Chromebooks
My kid had a school supplied Chromebook for 4 years that she was allowed to keep. She hated it, constantly abused it and was thrilled to stop using it. It's now my spare/mobile work device and I LOVE IT. It has a rock solid build, small enough to use in my lap, touchscreen, still has a great battery and being a Chromebook... it just works! Kids are kinda dumb (I'm only half joking) and I think even if they were given MacBooks she would have shit all over it just because it was associated with school.

Then there's me, using my AI tools to build a Fantasy Football lineup tool. Did pretty good last week!
josefresco··on Google ending ChromeOS support two years early
I use my kids' former high school Chromebook while on the road with great satisfaction. It's small (11.6 inches) which allows for easy lap operation. It's touchscreen which also helps when sitting in a car with the laptop close to your body. It's "tough" (IP52 certification) and was thoroughly abused by my kid for 4 years with almost no damage besides scuffs.

She hated it but I LOVE it and will look for a similar form factor when it finally dies which will 100% come after Google ends support.

Lastly, I often use it to remotely control my primary Windows PC which makes it even MORE useful.

josefresco··on So long Google, and thanks for all the nudes
I don't understand how Google aka the company that famously automates all the things can't "vibecode" a review tool to handle the increased submissions. I'm sure they already have which makes the delays puzzling. With all that compute, and all those brilliant engineers they should should be cranking out reviews, security audits and approving new apps/updated apps quicker than ever.
josefresco··on My weird new hobby: Wandering around Tokyo on Google Maps
I did this for about 6 months but with marathons from around the world. I watched so many I started recognizing people! They get a little boring after a while so I stopped but it was cool seeing different cities and marathon routes.
josefresco··on Toyota is taking the Corolla electric
I'd expect it to look similar to the current Prius and not like these concepts.

josefresco··on GPT-6 Astra has gained the ability to drive a car
Looks like the "most successful" path drove over empty parking spaces and came close to two curbs?
josefresco··on Claude Opus 5.5
Hijacking the scroll wheel has existing long before "AI". Many "high end design" websites that want to "tell a story" get woo'd into thinking it's a good idea. It's terrible, and feels like your scroll wheel is stuck in quicksand.
josefresco··on Meta’s Muse has a serious 0-day
"Normies" aka the average user on Meta. They have no concept of what "admin privileges" means and don't really care. I still have a hard time convincing my clients to use secure passwords. I have clients who were phished for substantial amounts of money and STILL don't implement proper security measures.
josefresco··on Disney+: New user agreement allows ads before movies in all subscriptions
"because we don’t have an alternative"

Ads embedded on the playing field? Sure. Billboards visible or sponsor logos on uniforms? I get it. Actual commercials? This is a solved issue for decades, there are "alternatives" as others have pointed out. This is a "Boiling frog" situation.

josefresco··on I had Gemini train its own replacement for $9
I didn't read it, I just used Gemini to gather a list of Reddit URLs I will then have Claude "read" using my Chrome with an authenticated Reddit session.
josefresco··on I had Gemini train its own replacement for $9
Indeed, I just wanted to try out Gemini Deep Research with their gated access to Reddit. The next step would be for me to use Claude Code to load each URL and write it's own analysis - in this case I just offloaded some of the searching to free Gemini rather than burn my paid Claude tokens. That being said, I trust Reddit comments just about as much as I trust AI analysis on topics like this (solar leasing company evaluation)
josefresco··on I had Gemini train its own replacement for $9
The other day I wanted to gather Reddit comments about a solar panel vendor. Claude doesn't have access to I had Gemini do some "deep research". When I fed the verbose report back to Claude it basically said it was a bunch of "hallucinated bullshit".
josefresco··on A Cop Searched 19,000 Flock Cameras Across 1,558 Cities. His Reason: 'LMAO'
> July 2025, an officer with the Lake County, Indiana, Sheriff's Department

Do they not know the name of this officer, or are they not reporting it?

josefresco··on Volkswagen Just Built an EV That Can Go Nearly 900 Miles on a Charge
I regularly drive 450+ miles to a family camp and need to stop at least once just to stretch my legs/change drivers/eat. The drive can take anywhere from 7-9 hours depending on traffic. 900 miles range is cool but it's not worth a huge price premium. Sort of like the Concord; while it's technically possible it's not worth the money.
josefresco··on The EPA is planning to scrap public review rules for data center pollution
Currently there is no "Republican party" just Trump loyalists. In 2030 the party might still be called the same but I doubt it will have moved far from the principles of today.

josefresco··on Pentagon rescinds new testosterone screening policy without explanation
You're giving them too much credit. It's pure incompetence/malfeasance like everything the regime does in the name of "culture wars". Somewhere, some testosterone lab with connections got paid.
josefresco··on Gmail to end support for "Send as" for third-party addresses, such as @yahoo.com
Regarding the outrage in this thread: Am I missing something? DMARC/SPF/DKIM enforcement makes third-party relaying fragile and likely to cause deliverability failures. Discontinuing it seems like progress towards reducing abuse. Where am I wrong on this?
josefresco··on Artificial beaver dams saw juvenile coho salmon survival rates go from 8% to 60%

josefresco··on China, Egypt to do away with the use of the US dollar

josefresco··on Texas Data Center Map: See where data centers are operating or planned
https://storymaps.arcgis.com/stories/cc02f97b1129447db2420eb...

It's a little dated but I'm sure it hasn't changed much since 2024.

Tulare County (CA), the Panhandle region (TX), and the Magic Valley (ID) consistently rank as the highest-density clusters for the largest individual dairy herds in the country.
