josefresco··on Gmail to end support for "Send as" for third-party addresses, such as @yahoo.com
Regarding the outrage in this thread: Am I missing something? DMARC/SPF/DKIM enforcement makes third-party relaying fragile and likely to cause deliverability failures. Discontinuing it seems like progress towards reducing abuse. Where am I wrong on this?
josefresco··on Artificial beaver dams saw juvenile coho salmon survival rates go from 8% to 60%
Maybe I missed it, why didn't they just reintroduce beavers?
josefresco··on China, Egypt to do away with the use of the US dollar
Is the US going to abduct the leader of Egypt and install a puppet regime like Venezuela?
josefresco··on Texas Data Center Map: See where data centers are operating or planned
https://storymaps.arcgis.com/stories/cc02f97b1129447db2420eb...

It's a little dated but I'm sure it hasn't changed much since 2024.

Tulare County (CA), the Panhandle region (TX), and the Magic Valley (ID) consistently rank as the highest-density clusters for the largest individual dairy herds in the country.

josefresco··on Gemini 3.8 Flash and 3.8 Flash Cyber
Cyber is more of an early 1990's thing, and I have no issue with it unlike most in the tech field. I feel like it dropped off in the late 90's and early 00's but made a comeback as hacking became a mainstream security issue.
josefresco··on Can Evan Spiegel Sell the World on $2,195 Smart Glasses?
These are suuuper dorky (and I'm a gadget nerd): https://images.wsj.net/im-03922841?width=1280&size=1.000

Not to mention they will be used by perverts and people who don't respect privacy.

Are we really doing this again?
josefresco··on Dyson CameraJet electric toothbrush
My dentist uses AI for X-ray analysis. I wish I remembered the name but the monitor was facing me and it was obvious. They also use some sort of fancy imaging tool that they run around my mouth to create a 3d image.
josefresco··on US lawmakers demand investigation into admin's secret surveillance of Americans
Calling them "lawmakers" at this point seems like a stretch given our laws are now almost exclusively dictated via social media/EO by the executive. I wish I was kidding. Maybe "former" or "legacy" lawmakers is more accurate?
josefresco··on Play Store blocks AuroraStore, hurting GrapheneOS users
Piggybacking on this... I create my fair share of "burner accounts" and almost always they (not just Google) connect it to my true identity. Granted I'm not using VPNs or really trying to hide the connection but it seems trivial for them to associate.
josefresco··on Cheap GPS jammers are filling the world with navigation dead zones
Tip: Take a small break and within 60 seconds you'll be out of earshot. Also, I realize we're not going to agree on this and that's okay.
josefresco··on Cheap GPS jammers are filling the world with navigation dead zones
If passing one person the trail playing audible music ruins your entire experience I'd check on your mental health. Seriously. I too can get mad at ridiculous things (line cutters, rude drivers, loud movie goers) and have to make a conscious effort to stop, take a deep breath and ask myself why I'm letting this innocuous thing effect my day.
josefresco··on Cheap GPS jammers are filling the world with navigation dead zones
These takes are unreasonable IMHO. When you pass someone on the trail, even with a BT speaker blasting you hear the music for what.. maybe 15-20 seconds? Is that really ruining your day? Sometimes when I walk or bike with my wife we bring a BT speaker and I can BARELY hear it and I'm walking side-by-side with her getting no more than 15-20 feet away. Let. People. Enjoy. Things.

Edit: Moderated some of my language.

josefresco··on ICE grants $16.7 Million no-bid contract to buy 6000 electric shock gloves
I'm curious what would happen to someone wearing these gloves if exposed to water during activation.

Disclaimer: I'm of course only concerned about the safety of our brave and righteous ICE officers.

josefresco··on EPA says power for data centers can sidestep pollution laws
Clarification: During his first term, Donald Trump appointed former Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt as the Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). In his role as state attorney general, Pruitt had sued the EPA multiple times to challenge federal environmental regulations, including the Clean Power Plan and the Waters of the United States rule.

josefresco··on Felony Bench
Wasn't it both in this case? The gun maker, when testing their gun, shot someone.
josefresco··on Don't paste the AI, please
> The person on the other side has the same tools you do.

Oh sweetie... I've been getting paid to "Google things" for 26 years. AI isn't going to change that transaction. When I was in high school it was assumed that everyone would be tech savvy. That didnt happen and in fact my kids were LESS tech savvy because of smartphones and refined aka dumbed down consumer tech.

Busted! lol
josefresco··on As AI eats the web, the internet’s collective memory is disappearing
I've used DDG for years (thousands of searches) and when I switch back to Google thinking I might be missing something... I'm always let down. Seriously, the results are pathetically bad now and have been for years.
josefresco··on Google fixed more Chrome bugs in June than over the past two years, thanks to AI
Did they fix spell check? Because it still doesn't work and all the solutions are basically "wipe and start over".

Locally at least, luxury services are booming. Patreon probably isn't a "luxury" in the traditional sense, but it's certainly a luxury for the lower/middle class. Agreed on the "totally-not-a-recession" reasoning - I'm just always curious which businesses are insulated from this type of economic headwind.
josefresco··on India's first privately-developed rocket reaches orbit on debut launch
For those interested, just read a great book on this topic: When the Heavens Went on Sale by Ashlee Vance: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/62050244-when-the-heaven...

> At the same time, the market in which we operate has undergone profound change over the last 6 months.

I guess this is the "reason" but obviously they aren't elaborating. It's odd they picked "6 months" - what changed in "the market"?
