jorkos··on Ask HN: Who is hiring? (April 2017)
Reportin | Senior Front End Dev | Toronto | onsite | full-time | http://www.reportin.com

Reportin is preparing to launch the first modern SaaS platform for finance teams. We are looking for an experienced Front End Dev who is comfortable building modern web apps. jorkos··on Ask HN: Has anyone moved to Canada?
If you do come to toronto to check out the city drop me a line and I can help introduce you to the city. Jordy@tapfun.com
jorkos··on Ask HN: Someone offered to buy my browser extension from me. What now?
Use escrow.com
jorkos··on YC at Hack the North
Will there be a recording made of the session? Hope so.
jorkos··on Ask HN: Who's looking for a cofounder?
I'm a somewhat technical founder currently bootstrapping an elearning startup - Tapfun. Although I have a biz dev / marketing background, I wanted to be able to contribute on the product so I rolled up my sleeves and built all of our iOS apps to date. I grew up with computers but was never deeply technical (just building websites for extra income).

We have over 1M downloads on iPad and everyday tens of thousands of young students use our apps. Recently I hired some contractors to help build the next gen of our products with a proper backend. We have our first school client for the platform and they are rolling out an app for all of their grade 1 students using this technology (in place: contract iOS dev, backend, front end).

I've realized that I really need a technical partner so that I can trust someone to really own the technical side of the business and I will focus on raising a seed round and growing the customer base. I'm planning to move from Toronto to the US in the fall (either NYC or San Fran) depending on how my accelerator applications go.

Even though i've been at this for 3+ years i'm open to bringing in a cofounder. Seeking full stack expertise (bonus points for ML experience) with a desire to make a huge impact in the learning space. Drop me a line (email in profile) to chat about how education will change in the future.

jorkos··on Ask HN: Submitting english iOS app, select only certain countries or “all”?
You should add it to all countries. English speakers will see that it is in English. You can localize later.
jorkos··on I Am Sam Altman, President of Y Combinator. AMA
What are the hardest lessons for founders to learn during YC?
jorkos··on Building a Software Company in Rwanda, 3 Years Later
I notice that the pricing plans don't reward the middle tier as compared to the first tier.....would have expected that middle one to offer savings per SMS sent versus the first tier. My 2 cents feedback. Service looks very useful, congrats!
jorkos··on Ask HN: Tell me what iOS app you'd like me to build, and I'll open source it.
Alarm clock that gives you a standing ovation (and cheers) when you stand up.
jorkos··on Publishers shouldn't be app developers
By this logic app developers shouldn't publish books because some turn out bad. I think 37signals might take issue with that, rework or not.
jorkos··on How Sacha Greif and Nathan Barry sold $39k worth of eBooks
Thanks Nathan, can you point us to a few of the apps you've worked on as a starting point. Thanks
jorkos··on Ask HN: I need your help naming our science startup
labvine (don't love it but but workable)

I've made an inquiry about a much better one that you may be able to buy....sitting dormant. That's what i'd look for, really solid names that you can buy for not too much....worth it.

jorkos··on Show HN: Pump Ups, Birchbox for the supplement industry
Agreed. It just seems like you're pulling a fast one....as a potential customer all I really focus on is that dollar amount per month....I don't really factor shipping into the cost of your service.
jorkos··on Show HN: Pump Ups, Birchbox for the supplement industry
On the homepage it says $5/month and then $10/month on registration. What's the thinking here?
jorkos··on YC Interview Advice, Question 1
This font type is really hard to read....FYI....light gray on black background really isn't legible.
jorkos··on Show HN: Worldle- 24 Hour real time boggle HTML5 hackathon game
i'm trying on chrome and not getting points for words (are those tallied at the end of a session)...it's not clear and at least in my browser it shows 0 points. great job
jorkos··on How to Acquire a Domain Name (That Someone Already Owns)
I followed this advice to get my corporate name: tapfun.com - THANK YOU
jorkos··on Clear: doing for To Do lists what Dropbox did for file syncing
I played with it last night. The UI is really intuitive and the model makes sense - worth a dollar.
jorkos··on When should you jump ship? Can you split time between startups & still succeed?
You need to FOCUS. Pick one thing and give it your all. Don't dabble. I repeat, pick one thing. If your not dreaming about it, that's not the right thing.
jorkos··on Review my startup - Lean Domain Search: The fastest way to find a domain name
These services miss the point - spend a little more and buy a name off someone.
jorkos··on Fly the Airplane
On a whole other topic, that's quite the footer....Dustin Curtis is a superhero!!
jorkos··on 232 sand dollars
Reminds me of a turtle shell i found hiking in the Apalachians while on Outward Bound....one of our guides convinced me to leave it in situ - important lesson.
jorkos··on Your Idea Is Worthless. Worry about finding smart nerds.
The title of this post should really be "your idea is worthless if you can't execute on it." When you have the technical skills to implement ideas, they become incredibly valuable: witness google, hotmail, youtube, facebook....etc.
jorkos··on "Australian Exceptionalism": best performing and fairest developed nation
Selling dirt to China really skews these numbers....and as a Canadian I should know.
jorkos··on You've Probably Read Enough
Follow up: i've probably written enough...
jorkos··on Watch a VC use my name to sell a con
I don't think Mike is writing in the spirit you suggest; he's just arguing that you have to work hard to achieve something great. Is there something wrong with that argument? Of course, VCs want the people they invest in to work hard....does that surprise anyone? No one has to take VC money.....know what you're signing up for.
jorkos··on My Secret Way to Find Good Names for Projects & Startups
clasio better than classic! really? clasio is not a good name....it simply presents too many spelling problems.
jorkos··on "No matter what price we choose, we always make the same revenue"
This is why in-app purchases are so effective. Charging everyone the same price all the time doesn't make sense with digital goods
jorkos··on So you're considering a liberal arts degree
so the argument here is to follow the steve jobs model....if you want to study liberal arts, drop out so you don't have to pay and just sit in on classes.
