joombaga··on Pigging
This is timely. My partner and I have been watching the Saw movies, and we use the term "pigging" to mean "abducting" (as abductors wear pig masks in the series). Everytime someone is abducted we say they're "getting pigged".
joombaga··on Managing Kubernetes resources in Terraform: Kubernetes provider
Yeah that's definitely the way to go if there's already a helm chart. If it's just raw manifests I'd rather convert to HCL than build a helm chart to feed into TF, but that's just because I know TF better, most of my configuration is already there, so I'd prefer to keep abstraction boundaries small. But it's nice to have the options.
joombaga··on Managing Kubernetes resources in Terraform: Kubernetes provider
You can use YAML files with kubernetes_manifest resources if you like, though you'll probably run into issues that the bespoke resources (e.g. kubernetes_deployment) handle for you.
joombaga··on USB-C head-to-head comparison
My old motherboard had 2 NICs, and was able to test Ethernet cables this way.
joombaga··on Napflix – Siesta Video Platform
This doesn't work very well in Firefox on Android. Videos are rendered very small in the middle of the page.
joombaga··on Napflix – Siesta Video Platform
"Joe Pera Talks With You" is good too. It was the most heartwarming show on TV, and was cancelled too soon. But it ends on a good note.
joombaga··on FreeTube – The Private YouTube Client
I'd like to pay less money and not get music. Just no ads. YouTube Red launched with Google Play Music, which I enjoyed. But that's gone now, and I'm paying for YouTube Music which I do not use.
joombaga··on Show HN: Use an old tablet as an extra monitor
You can still do target disk mode over usb-c. I used it when I switched from Intel to M1.
joombaga··on KSP2 is spamming the Windows Registry until the game stops working
"AppData" is like $HOME/Library.

"ProgramData" is like /Library.

"Program Files" is like /Applications.

joombaga··on HashiCorp did it backwards
For RDS you can change the password after creating the DB, or use the SecretsManager integration. There are similar workarounds for other providers and resources. I use TF without storing secrets in the state file (providers: AWS, kubernetes, helm, onepassword, datadog, auth0, and more).
joombaga··on Continue with LocalAI: An alternative to GitHub's Copilot that runs locally
I wish they offered that much in the Air.
joombaga··on YouTube no longer suggests videos if your ‘watch history’ is turned off
This is what happens to me with the history cleared and turned off.
joombaga··on Browsers barely care what HTTP status code your web pages are served with
Yes, though the color varies by release and build channel. The current GA release has B(lack)S(s)oD.
joombaga··on Show HN: Obl.ong, Free, quality domains for all
Kong is a pretty popular API management tool.
joombaga··on Apple expands M3 Mac testing ahead of rumored October launch
Magic Trackpad too. Just bought a new one and it came with a usb-c to lightning cable.
joombaga··on Miyazaki’s Magical Food: An ode to anime’s best cooking scenes
Perhaps "Chuka Ichiban!" https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ch%C5%ABka_Ichiban%21

It's Japanese, but takes place in China.

joombaga··on Systemd auto-restarts of units can hide problems from you
Are you talking about running systemd inside a container? Feels like an unnecessary layer.
joombaga··on Unesco calls for global ban on smartphones in schools
Most of them have a receiver option too. Dexcom does. They're another cost though, and quite expensive for what they do (~$400 for the G7 receiver). They don't have Wi-Fi though, so they can't upload data (at least for Dexcom).
joombaga··on Better ways to read Hacker News
What do you use to load the stylesheet?
joombaga··on Nailing jelly to a wall: is it possible? (2007)
They're still around. I'm seeing them Thursday.
joombaga··on Cool Retro Terminal
When you say "gaps", do you mean space between windows? I do that. Seeing a bit of the wallpaper is like seeing a bit of your desk between papers. Helps with mental context switching. Window borders probably serve the same function, but they've never worked as well for me.
joombaga··on Why software projects take longer than you think: a statistical model (2019)
You should probably still add a week to the estimate.
joombaga··on Patching GCC to build Actually Portable Executables
In what circumstance would USERPROFILE differ from HOMEDRIVE\HOMEPATH?
joombaga··on Allow 0.0.0.0/8 as a valid address range (2018)
> 0.0.0.0/32 is still prohibited, of course.

Good. I won't have to change my hosts file.

joombaga··on W3C announces new Web standard for online payments
Does the existing standard make the web more app-like?
joombaga··on Kenny Log-Ins
Sometimes I have to type passwords into apps or websites that my password manager does not work, or on other devices like my TV or game consoles. There's a middle ground between your options that's perfect for these scenarios.

My password manager can generate passwords like

> DWOW!psap.rair2vim

It's split into 3-4 character groups, with numbers and symbols used to delimit each group. It's memorizable without (intentionally) using words, and fairly easy to type with a remote or controller.

joombaga··on Framework Laptop 16
They sell their own 1 TB and 250 GB expansion cards. I've been using the 1 TB as my Pop!_OS system drive.
joombaga··on Framework Laptop 16
There are 6 slots on the 16.
joombaga··on My thoughts on “bad code”
Oh man I have some bash case statements that fit this description. Could be improved, but it's tested with every commit on every PR and by George it really holds the room together.
joombaga··on Tell HN: Oops Upwork did it again
I'm not a sports guy. Thought you meant "Matt Berry" at first.
