That said, rapid "all's still well" feedback is awesome when you can get it.
The scheme described would have leaked immediately. Too obvious and too many people.
Seth did report a lot of N=very-small anecdotes uncritically. You might say he was encouraging people to do their own N=1.
Just as a start, nobody will pay the average basketball player, but the average programmer can earn a nice living. Then move down the line to the owners' monopoly vs players' union, 5 players on the floor, etc.
A better analysis could start with why a 10x more skilled programmer isn't able to produce 10x more value, or, if she is, why she isn't the one capturing it.
There sure are domains where 10 hard working just-competent programmers can outproduce a single genius. Ideally the genius has a few near-peers and a grunt-programming support team, and everyone feels good about that.
Legit issues: compile time (of course), library docs (maybe), bad HTTP header API (maybe), tooling (maybe). I thought the automatically generated (doxygen style) library docs were fine when I was playing with Scala two years ago.
What?
"This resulted in several hundreds of thousands of persons fitting the above criteria immigrating to Israel (mainly from the former Soviet Union) but not being recognized as Jews by the Israeli religious authorities, which on the basis of halakha recognize only the child of a Jewish mother as being Jewish."
and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Birthright_Israel "Eligible individuals are those who have at least one parent of recognized Jewish descent."
We're not making that assumption.
We're talking about A because Israel extends certain privileges only to A-jews. Orthodox jews only accept A-jews.
If there's some explicit cutoff date (N generations back? 1900?) before which there's no brand attached to not having a jewish mother then I guess we should talk about A' instead.
Getting offended by crude humor is fine as a personal aesthetic choice. Drawing attention to it seems futile.
Why not "invest": unproven reliability and performance, uncertain future.
"If the gloves don’t fit, you must acquit." Rhyme is actually persuasive.
(In general things that are easier to understand/remember are more persuasive;
people distrust the same words said in a thick foreign accent, for that reason).
