jongibbins··on Steam Machine
It sounds like a similar idea to what Atari launched. https://atari.com/pages/atari-vcs Let's hope Steam put a bit more effort into it than Atari have.
jongibbins··on Roboto: Google’s signature font is now open source
Hmm... What's up with this page?

"Bitdefender Antivirus Free Edition has blocked a page! Malware detected! Access to this page has been blocked."

Any idea what's in there tripping out Bitdefender?

jongibbins··on RT's Abby Martin speaks out against Russian invasion of Crimea 3/3/2014
I love the RT news channel but cannot comprehend what good any military action by Russia will bring.

Well done to Abby for adding her strong personal opinion, not to be outvoiced by that of the state.

jongibbins··on This URL crashes Chrome/Chromium
Opera 20 on Windows. Boom!
jongibbins··on Norway says Bitcoins aren't real money
"Bitcoin says Norway isn't a real country" ... probably
jongibbins··on Ask HN: Why can't I access healthcare.gov from outside the US?
On further inspection it looks like it's just diverting to show my localhost:80 here.
jongibbins··on Ask HN: Why can't I access healthcare.gov from outside the US?
I think the site may be down. Visiting http://www.healthcare.gov gives me an upside down IIS7 logo! http://www.healthcare.gov/welcome.png

(I'm in the UK)

jongibbins··on uoou.info: the weirdest website you'll see this year
It looks fantastic. Would love to see the source code.
jongibbins··on Ask HN: Do you use Google Now?
Google Now is great if you travel a lot by road and have regularly occurring destinations and/or at regular times. It has a great ability to predict "Are you going to xyz?" - If you answer yes, it already knows where you are going and presents the satnav all ready to go with traffic reports etc. I find that so so handy.
jongibbins··on Facebook Says Its New Data Center Will Run Entirely on Wind
When they say 'wind' do they mean all the hot air produced by all the people using it?
jongibbins··on Internet.org ... seems to be missing?
Can't help but notice the favicon being a Facebook icon.
jongibbins··on Ask HN: What music do you listen to when hacking?
Anything with a good consistent rhythm and beat is good for me. I particularly find that (surprisingly!) liquid Drum & Bass helps get you in 'the zone' of concentration.
jongibbins··on Show HN: Sesame, the wireless Mac lock
Serious call centres are red hot on data protection, at least here in the UK. I can imagine these being useful there. That said, with 200+ of these little things in one building i can imagine the bluetooth range might get a tad busy!
jongibbins··on Ask HN: How does your CV look like?
Always keep to two pages maximum. I have a lightly coloured header with my name in large letters at the head of page 1, the rest in a nice, clear, structured list of skills and previous jobs. If I remember later on I'll link it up here for you to see.
jongibbins··on Ask HN: What's your linux distro?
If you're looking for an aestheticaly pleasing desktop with lots of shiny, Ubuntu and Mint are the still the flavours of the month. As a proper computer user, mind, add another +1 to CrunchBang Linux. Works great on my desktop as it very nippy without bloat but the laptop was the best to benefit as I can easily get an extra hour or two from the battery life because of it.
jongibbins··on Use ASCII art to help fast module search in Sublime Text
And I thought I was the only one doing this! It's an excellent idea if your code evolves too much to keep up with approximate line numbers alone.
jongibbins··on Gmail is Down (as well as other services)
No issues here I'm afraid (UK).
jongibbins··on Pluggable Phone Technology Movement - PHONEBLOCS.com
Indeed. This is scam material in the making! Just check the whois for an obvious sign its a fake.

phoneblocs.com (fake) Registrant Name: Wy Ifi

phonebloks.com (genuine) Registrant Name: DMJ Hakkens

Any chance of this link being altered or removed?

jongibbins··on [dead]
Is this link meant to be an advert or something?
jongibbins··on Snowden accepts Venezuela's asylum offer
Strangely enough, the Tweet from @Alexey_Pushkov declaring this has since been deleted ....
jongibbins··on Opera 15 released
Bring back embedding folders in folders in the bookmarks (Speed Dial) and it's a winner. I was an Opera user for years but moved to Chrome when the odd site would break now and then.

I'd love to go back to Opera, I'm actually quite a fan of the new v15 but the lack of folders in folders in bookmarks is a dealbreaker for me.

jongibbins··on Opera 15 is here, but is it better than Firefox and Chrome?
Bring back embedding folders in folders in the bookmarks (Speed Dial) and it's a winner.
jongibbins··on Does the USA own the internet?
Does the USA own the internet? It sure thinks it does.
jongibbins··on Ask HN: What kind of music do you listen to while programming?
If I need deep concentration when programming then I find Drum & Bass works a treat. The music is fast, making your mind tick a bit faster and there are very few lyrics to get distracted by.
jongibbins··on Review: CrunchBang – Linux 11 "Waldorf"
CrunchBang is great and can be summed up in a few words: Tidy, clean, works.

End of. :)

jongibbins··on Outlook.com now lets you chat with Google friends – one more reason to switch
I can sense your anti-Google stance immediately there so I won't feed the trolls but if it's not a re-branded Hotmail, what is it? It's hardly a groundbreaking new concept. (Also, you can switch off the stupid compose window so where's the issue there?)
jongibbins··on Outlook.com now lets you chat with Google friends – one more reason to switch
It would probably be worth switching if it wasn't just a rebranded Hotmail finally doing what GMail has already been doing since the dawn of time.
