jonchui··on Ask HN: Who is hiring? (November 2019)
Senior Mobile Software Engineer iOS & Android / Gloo / Boulder, CO ON-SITE / Full time / ex-Googlers

We’re pretty lucky to work @ Gloo, and can’t wait for you to join us!

Headquartered in beautiful Boulder, Colorado, Gloo has grown to over 100 employees in the last 6 years, building software for purpose-driven organizations who are doing right by the world.

Traditionally, these types of organizations haven’t had the resources to leverage big data, build great products and hire deeply technical experts. This all changes with Gloo.

As we grow, we need more talented creatives who are driven to make a positive impact on humanity. Are you one of them?

As a member of our Mobile Engineering Team, you’ll work directly with a team of 5 other awesome mobile engineers who have a range of experiences (from startups, to consultants, to ex-Marines and even Googlers!), who enjoy working together and building a great product.

We also have An experienced ex- silicon valley Product Manager defining requirements, An amazing QA team helping to write automated tests & manually testing our features, as well as A few in-market clients helping us test & define Product Market Fit!

We have our own version of agile/kanban (doesn’t every company though? ) that’s documented and constantly getting better with feedback (from scheduled retros, as well as ongoing day-to-day). You’ll be a great fit if you want to make it better :)

We expect whoever joins to want to hit the ground running and learn a ton along the way

+100000000 !!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can't think of how many times I've had to do this. I relaly like georgemcbay@'s idea to just mark as spam. Gonna do that from now on

jonchui··on Ask HN: What did the really successful programmers do differently?
well worth the read. thanks!
jonchui··on A Truly Deep Reverse Engineering Adventure with FreePhoneLine & Eclipse
I was thinking of seeing if I could reverse engineer the protocol & create my own API for it. I thought I'd do a quick search first & this is a link I found buried deep in Google. I haven't shared a lot on hacker news but thought you'd all appreciate it. cheers
jonchui··on I overlaid paulgb Facebook connections world map with countries. Thoughts?
indeed.
jonchui··on Facebook intern visualizes friendships, draws world map
Added Countries: http://ow.ly/3pLxP

I really wanted to look at the map in the context of where actual countries were so I threw together a Google Maps overlay. I couldn't believe how accurately the connections followed country lines, it was amazing!

jonchui··on Exclusive interview with three individuals who hacked Gawker
I just found it interesting that after reading plenty of "news sources" on the subject, I didn't get one authoritative post on HOW the hackers did it and WHY. The readme helped out but to hear directly from the hackers was quite informative. This post did. Then again, now that you bring it up, I'm not sure there's any way we can know if it's "authoritative" or not.
jonchui··on EyePong: Play Pong With Your Freaking Eyes (built at Barcamp Vancouver)
Thanks for the link @nick! I should also mention that I wasn't the only dev on the project at all. @appskicker built the backend & started it.
jonchui··on Tell HN: Vancouver, Canada Startup Hackathon Oct 8-10th
Hmm... definitely agree with nick. The hacker community in Vancouver is already so small that there's no need to do both on the same weekend.

I also agree $75 is quite steep, so I've talked to the SW folks about working together somehow & getting a better discount for scrappy entrepreneurs & hackers (while preserving the high $75 for business & "marketing" folk who tend to hijack hacker events here in Vancouver). They're all for it!

So far, we got a 20% discount off for Startup Digest readers (code: startupdigest), but I'm sure we can get even more.

jonchui··on The Age Of Facebook: Excerpts From The New Book By David Kirkpatrick
I'd have to agree with what Mike Arrington said: "I would summarize the best parts for you but, really, the whole thing is the best part."
jonchui··on WhiteyBoard: An Instant Whiteboard For your Instant Office
I really like this idea Jason! & you can't really beat that price point (especially compared to the INCREDULOUSLY expensive ideapaint)

But, this reminds me of the $28 DIY 4' x 8' whiteboard?

Anyone ever tried making their own?
