jonathantf2··on Ask HN: Is it impossible to disable Siri on macOS 27?
You can just use Apple Configurator to make a .mobileconfig file and apply that, no MDM required.
jonathantf2··on Linux Zoom client proactively reading everything written to X11 clipboard
Great, til I have a job interview and they use Zoom
jonathantf2··on Google Hits 50% IPv6
Purely from a business perspective, for VM there is no point. They have more than enough v4 to keep them going, customers (outside of a tiny technical minority who probably wouldn't chose VM anyway) do not see any benefit.

That plus other ISPs v6 implementations breaking things randomly, I understand why they don't bother.

jonathantf2··on California moves to exempt Linux from its age-verification law after backlash
There are news sites tailored for kids, like BBC Newsround (https://www.bbc.co.uk/newsround)
jonathantf2··on DRAM pricing is killing the hobbyist SBC market
DRAM pricing is killing the everything market.

We just had a vendor uplift our quote 50% per unit for some machines because of a mix of memory + supply chain issues.

jonathantf2··on Explain it like I'm 5: Why is everyone on speakerphone in public?
I blame The Apprentice
jonathantf2··on Cash issuing terminals
In my hometown someone did this, take half the wall of the Nationwide branch out along with the ATM. Someone also tried to get a free standing one from inside a shop but just ended up destroying the frontage and not taking it home with them.
jonathantf2··on I tried building my startup entirely on European infrastructure
they use datapacket/cdn77, no?
jonathantf2··on In Search of a Discord Replacement
Matrix is god awful, literally the opposite of Discord in usability
jonathantf2··on Tell HN: Get a dying iPhone 12 mini in 2026
I just moved away from iPhones because the battery life on every single one I've owned is abysmal. I'm a week into a phone with an absolutely massive battery and it can actually get me through a whole day which no iPhone ever has.
jonathantf2··on Ryanair fined €256M over ‘abusive strategy’ to limit ticket sales by OTAs
Did it on debit card, another lesson learned.
jonathantf2··on Ryanair fined €256M over ‘abusive strategy’ to limit ticket sales by OTAs
I booked direct on Ryanair.com and they refused to refund our tickets because the flight technically ran even though we weren’t legally allowed to leave our homes. Lesson learned, I’ve got travel insurance now
jonathantf2··on JetBlue flight averts mid-air collision with US Air Force jet
Not nearly enough randomly capitalised words
jonathantf2··on Nook Browser
Thought this was a browser for my e-reader
jonathantf2··on NFCGate flagged as malware even after multiple followups saying it isn't
I mean - Tailscale is a remote access tool...
jonathantf2··on OpenMANET Wi-Fi HaLow open-source project for Raspberry Pi–based MANET radios
I played with HaLow for a while but the only stuff I could get here in the UK was some undocumented crap from AliExpress, anything more robust looking only seems to work in the US. A shame because it’d solve a infrastructure challenge I have to juggle each year
jonathantf2··on China intimidated UK university to ditch human rights research, documents show
That’s like the average salary here.
jonathantf2··on Making Every Windows 11 PC an AI PC

jonathantf2··on Wealth tax would be deadly for French economy, says Europe's richest man
Thanksgiving would be deadly, says turkey
jonathantf2··on Gmail will no longer support checking emails from third-party accounts via POP
I have had multiple people scream at me on the phone for daring to suggest that a new person working needs their own email account and it will cost about £4 ($5.30~) a month
jonathantf2··on Geolocation and Starlink
Got my /29 on my DSL line for free :)
jonathantf2··on My game's server is blocked in Spain whenever there's a football match on
A pub near us got quoted near £1500 a month just for one service, you have to have 3 separate ones to watch all the games. Risking a fine might be cheaper than paying that for some
jonathantf2··on iPhone Air
Not sure, but my provider don't do eSIM so I guess I can't get one.
jonathantf2··on My phone is an ereader now
not in Europe - everybody uses WA here, work group chats, friends, parents, etc. My dad sometimes uses iMessage because he can’t see the difference between the icons but apart from that you’d get strange looks if you mentioned Telegram/Signal etc
jonathantf2··on How I use Tailscale
You do get support if you're a free user, it's just best effort and via e-mail only.
jonathantf2··on Mastercard deflects blame for NSFW games being taken down
For a while my old bank would block all Steam payments on both debit and credit - calling them confirmed that this was their new policy. I swiftly closed the account and moved to a competitor so I could spend my money again.
jonathantf2··on iPhone 16 cameras vs. traditional digital cameras
They LOOK worse but they have a sort of nostalgic, "real" feel about them without all the extra post processing. Maybe it's because my eyesight isn't the best but my friend recently took a little digital camera to a festival and the pictures off of that are the ones we all posted.
jonathantf2··on Stop selling “unlimited”, when you mean “until we change our minds”
My bank app has a bit where it detects common services and tells you how to cancel them in the app, like Amazon Prime
