jojohack··on Old Insurance Maps – Georeferencing Sanborn Fire Insurance Maps on Modern Maps
Thanks for sharing. I went through a similar process recently, manually stitching together fire insurance maps from my hometown. A large part of the business district burned down in 1916, but maps from a couple of years earlier survived. It worked, but it was tedious. This would have saved a lot of time. Here's the link if anyone wants to check it out: https://fire.gorch.com/
jojohack··on Microsoft forced me to switch to Linux
Timing of your post is spot on. I just emptied a drive to prep for a Linux switch this morning ( for the same reasons ) :D
jojohack··on iCloud Photos Downloader
Became more fascinated with the history of my small hometown (Paris, Texas) TLDR: Much of it was wiped out by a 1916 fire. I spent some time recently vibe-coding this interactive map to provide some kind of historic visualization ( which enabled me to see the impact better ) https://gorch.com/parisfiremap/

jojohack··on They Might Be Giants Flood EPK Promo (1990) [video]
Listened to Flood continuously in high school. In many ways, I felt it empowered me to embrace my own weirdness.

I wonder if Regenerative AI would be a more suitable name.
jojohack··on Watch TV from the 90s and earlier
Creator here. I add the static to mask the video buffering ( since each channel change triggers a video load ) I'm flattered though that you think of me as young. I very much was a child of the '80's :D
jojohack··on Ask HN: Most interesting tech you built for just yourself?
For fun I stitched together a map of my hometown from older fire insurance maps ( taken in 1914 ) Ironically much of the downtown area was destroyed by a fire two years later.

jojohack··on California AG and state senators introduce bill to ban hidden fees
As others have said, I hope this applies to "resort fees" What makes it worse is many hotels having this hidden charge in parallel advertise a "complimentary" breakfast.

jojohack··on Show HN: Port of OpenAI's Whisper model in C/C++
Pretty cool stuff, can this be easily used to augment videos with translated subtitles? And if so, I'm assuming it would be fast enough to do so in real-time?
jojohack··on Guide to FFmpeg
This is super-amazing and removes the main excuses why I've been reluctant to do any kind of video-casting. Thanks for sharing!
jojohack··on Show HN: Pipes puzzle (a.k.a. Net) on a hexagonal grid
Nice job! This reminds me a bit of a space puzzle game I made a while back ( the premise of which is to rotate the hexagon tiles to create a pathway from the player character to the orb in each level )

jojohack··on Ask HN: What game do you wish existed?
Interesting, I always thought of Mass Effect as a spiritual successor to Sentinel Worlds 1: Future Magic. Never played Star Control though, may need to check it out.

I launched My60sTV today and thought I would share it with this community. Hope you enjoy!

Thanks, Joey

jojohack··on Show HN: My 2000's TV – Nostalgic TV simulator
This is my first major addition to the MyRetroTVs side project in 7 years. Recently I rewrote the underlying My70sTV/My80sTV/My90sTV code from the ground up to take better advantage of modern JavaScript and modularize things. Thankfully that made it much easier for me to slap on a new decade. Hope you enjoy!
jojohack··on AR with SceneKit and Metal
Pretty cool application. Exactly how accurate is the AR + Lidar combo when it comes to fitting? For example, if you 3D print a car part after sizing it in 3D, does the printed product match up?
jojohack··on Ask HN: What did you make during lockdown?
Looks awesome, I've been recently playing Jackbox over Zoom with friends and was hoping to find something different. Will check it out.
jojohack··on Ask HN: What did you make during lockdown?
I created a web-based video player that adds a slit-scanning 3D effect ( using the edge pixels )

jojohack··on Penrose: Create diagrams by typing mathematical notation in plain text
Nice job, I've been looking for a tool like this for a while.
jojohack··on Show HN: Boundless player – A web app that 3D projects a video's edge pixels
Thanks! Unfortunately it is currently limited to DRM-free video streams, since the app needs direct access to the video frame in order read the pixels. But in general you should be able to set the ?v= param to other sources.

jojohack··on Show HN: Boundless player – A web app that 3D projects a video's edge pixels
Author here! Side projects be can quite therapeutic during these troubling times. This is an app I've really enjoyed tinkering with off and on over the past few months and am now happy to share it with others. The app includes sample videos along with a settings menu that allows the visualization to be changed on-the-fly. Looking forward to any feedback so can hopefully take it further. Hope you enjoy!
jojohack··on Are Pop Lyrics Getting More Repetitive? (2017)
Awesome post and presentation! I’m very curious if that raw song lyric data is available somewhere, would be fun to analyze it more. Here’s a small project I made that similarly lets you visualize song repetition: http://songbranch.gorch.com/
