jojobas··on When random is not actually random enough
Picking that from the noise would take quite a while.
jojobas··on AnyPS5: Port PS5 binaries to PC without emulation (87% system libraries mapped)
Self-host gitlab in darknet.
jojobas··on Turn off Apple Intelligence on macOS 27 and get its disk space back
Why would you expect Apple X strategy to be different from Microsoft X strategy?
jojobas··on Federal judge calls Flock 'indiscriminate mass surveillance'
Courts disagree with wildest things all the time, the court hasn't spoken.
jojobas··on Federal judge calls Flock 'indiscriminate mass surveillance'
I don't think any of this case law is relevant, trackers and requesting info that already exists are different from collecting publicly visible data.

The expectation that the government doesn't tail everyone might have been reasonable, the expectation that the government doesn't tail you without a court-approved excuse is not.

I'm not arguing there shouldn't be protection against total surveillance, I'm arguing the US constitution doesn't offer such protection.

jojobas··on So you think you could be an electrician?
Yep, conflating retail/hospo dead-end jobs where you get trained up in a week and replaced in a week with qualified tradesmen doesn't like high quality research.
jojobas··on So you think you could be an electrician?
Then there are quite a few essentially workplace injured programmers who are dismissively called "burnt out". Unable to work, unable to claim workers comp.
jojobas··on Federal judge calls Flock 'indiscriminate mass surveillance'
Any particular individual's movements could be tracked in the 1700s, and people have been tailed since forever. Your movements are in public space, no warrant was ever needed for that.
jojobas··on Automatic Transmission – a data-privacy study of connected vehicles
The consumer and the voter are the same guy. Yes it's definitely that guy's fault.
jojobas··on Automatic Transmission – a data-privacy study of connected vehicles
>Our findings underscore the need for continued measurement and scrutiny of the connected vehicle ecosystem.

The need is for people to have at least half a brain, and it's not happening. Almost all privacy conversations I've ever had with people ended with "so what".

-Companies with interests contrary to your own will know X, Y and Z about you.

-So what?

jojobas··on Singapore govt dating app uses Gale-Shapley stable marriage algorithm
Maybe they estimated the consequences of many 35+ getting married as negative, who knows. Maybe they just wanted better outcomes of the pilot to push on.
jojobas··on Singapore govt dating app uses Gale-Shapley stable marriage algorithm
Well that's not really different from any other age-limited policy where the govt sees the biggest bang for the buck, like state-funded uni under 35, dental for kids etc.
jojobas··on Singapore govt dating app uses Gale-Shapley stable marriage algorithm
Positive eugenics never stopped and there's nothing wrong about it. Also there's nothing wrong with the government promoting the creation of stable families with children born before DS risk exceeds 1/100.
jojobas··on Singapore govt dating app uses Gale-Shapley stable marriage algorithm
This assumes everyone puts their preferences and dealbreakers faithfully and not so as to score best/most chicks. I wonder what comes out of this.
jojobas··on NASA asked several former SR-71A staffers to help secret restart
A restart so secret that everyone and their dogs know about it.
jojobas··on Replacing the old battery on rechargeable bike lights
>So I went to the local queer makerspace

Would a normal makerspace do?

jojobas··on Unsealed Briefs in Authors’ Case v. Microsoft/OpenAI
It would appear that with the exception of Africa and parts of Asia humans can't make many either.
jojobas··on Unsealed Briefs in Authors’ Case v. Microsoft/OpenAI
Previous times the people were wanted elsewhere, even when US and Europe de-industrialized in favour of Asia. This time around we're already in a situation where educated people struggle to find jobs, and there are not many jobs created by some parallel process.

Imagine if say 200 companies created fully automated factories producing everything in the world. Let's say they employ one million scientists, engineers and guards. What fate would await the other 8 billion?

jojobas··on Linux support is coming to Snapdragon X2 series
Lenovo has one (it's a Yoga, not a Thinkpad though).
jojobas··on SAML: A fractal of bad design
Nobody calls me McGregor the Bridgebuilder.
jojobas··on Suspension of the de minimis administrative exemption for imports $800 or less
Are we talking duties imposed on the generics, or generics imports outright banned?
jojobas··on Jev-Leftpad
I have no mouth but I must pad.
jojobas··on Spain orders blocks on Archive.today and its mirrors
Russia protects its crown jewels by blocking anything of dissent, including youtube.
jojobas··on What happened to the Snowden archive
Two dead and few dozen ill doesn't quite sound like the worst thing. Random street cops do that to more people for no good reason in any given year.
jojobas··on Landing the Space Shuttle – A Flying Machine and the Thrill of a Lifetime
At triple the speed and double the approach angle, for ~6 times the sink rate. Hardly an approximation.
jojobas··on Landing the Space Shuttle – A Flying Machine and the Thrill of a Lifetime
The final approach was at about 12 degrees glide. This is about double of no-power Cessna, but still kinda shallow.
jojobas··on Australia says it could follow Canada in forging deeper ties with EU
While some are indeed highly skilled and earn well, many are skilled only on paper and end up driving Ubers. Also in the recent past many of the skilled migrants were for low-paid occupations like chefs.
jojobas··on AWS says it can't restore some data from mideast facilities struck by Iran
Yeah, Iran blowing up half the Middle East? Totally Bezos' fault.
jojobas··on Australia says it could follow Canada in forging deeper ties with EU
Per capita GDP is falling with every new migrant. I don't think it's the kind of GDP growth anyone wants to have.
jojobas··on Australia says it could follow Canada in forging deeper ties with EU
Nobody in Australia should like it.
