johntash··on Just use a button
In case you want to save a few seconds of your life, you can also middle click or ctrl click instead of right clicking + left clicking on the menu.
johntash··on Tailscale Peer Relays
(in)convenient timing. I just recently implemented a mesh network using wireguard+bgp so that all nodes can connect to each other one way or another. This would have probably been a lot easier for almost the same result.
johntash··on Tailscale Peer Relays
I remember using Tinc a lot and really liking it. But as 1gbit+ speeds became more common, tinc struggled to maintain that much throughput on lowend hardware.

I also didn't know that tinc was still around, I might give it a try again just to play around with it and see what's changed.

johntash··on Git CLI tool for intelligently creating branch names
That's been my preference at most places I've worked. issue id so the branch gets linked to jira or whatever and a short description to find the branch later if needed.
johntash··on Scripts I wrote that I use all the time
I imagine all of his passwords are abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz
johntash··on Scripts I wrote that I use all the time
I'd recommend disabling atuin when hitting up and just leave it on ctrl+r instead
johntash··on Phishing attack through GitHub notification
I've gotten a few similar spam/phishing notifications from github recently too. It showed that my username was tagged in the issue (along with 10-20 others).
johntash··on Cloudflare is sponsoring Ladybird and Omarchy
I wanted to try Omarchy out on my endeavouros desktop, but got annoyed that there wasn't a simple install script. I don't really want to re-install my whole OS just to try a new DE config.
johntash··on AI was supposed to help juniors shine. Why does it mostly make seniors stronger?
Or the wonderful loop of "These test steps are still failing, let's try something simpler and remove the failing tests. Great! The tests are passing now!"
johntash··on AI was supposed to help juniors shine. Why does it mostly make seniors stronger?
I think they were claiming claude easily verified it? i.e. they have total faith in claude to not mess up
johntash··on OneDev – Self-hosted Git server with CI/CD, Kanban, and packages
It looks cool, but I think some/most of the features on the front page are behind a paywall?

I'll add it to my list of things to try out though, having more competition in the space is definitely a good thing.

johntash··on Show HN: Omarchy on CachyOS
When's the last time you tried this?

I used to have this issue too but was pleasantly surprised I don't have this issue with my new machine using EndeavourOS w/ wayland. I switch displays a couple times per day and it's been fine.

johntash··on Pass: Unix Password Manager
Huh, I thought pass wasn't developed anymore for some reason. Glad to see it still is!

Related: https://github.com/gopasspw/gopass

I haven't used pass in a long time, but I used gopass for a while in a small team and it was pretty great.

johntash··on How to use Claude Code subagents to parallelize development
That's probably a good one to keep in there, I'll try it too. Maybe it'll help with the "Here's the plan:" where it starts listing phases and hours/days/weeks for each phase even though it's going to be doing most of the work asap
johntash··on How to use Claude Code subagents to parallelize development
I'm also skeptical partially because I don't like the huge essays generated by any llm. CLAUDE.md/AGENTS.md/README.md that are 5+ pages long are all equally bad imo. I prefer following the idea that if something is too verbose for me to want to get anything useful out of it, then the llm should behave similarly. Even if it's not true, why waste 2 paragraphs explaining something that could be explained in one short sentence?

My CLAUDE.md or AGENTS.md is usually just a bulleted list of reminders with high level information. If the agent needs more steering, I add more reminders. I try not to give it _too_ broad of a task without prior planning or it'll just go off the rails.

Something I haven't really experimented with is having claude generate ADRs [1] like your RFC/ idea. I'll probably try that and see how it goes.

johntash··on How to use Claude Code subagents to parallelize development
> I've found that the primary benefit for subagents is context/focus management. For example, I'm doing auth using Stytch. What I absolutely don't want to do is load https://stytch.com/docs/llms.txt and instructions for leveraging it in my CLAUDE.md.

> But it's perfect for my auth agent, and the quality of the output for auth-related tasks is far higher as a result.

What about just using a sub agent specifically to fetch llms.txt and find the answer to the question for the parent agent? Instead of handing a full task off to it

johntash··on Qwen3-Next
Can you explain how context fits into this picture by any chance? I sort of understand the vram requirement for the model itself, but it seems like larger context windows increases the ram requirement by a lot more?
johntash··on I built my own CDN with Varnish and Nginx
I wish anycast was easier to use without owning your own set of ips. I've done something similar to the author, and ended up also relying on another provider for geo dns.

If I could have my own anycast ip to share on all my servers, that'd be really cool.

johntash··on Longhorn – A Kubernetes-Native Filesystem
For homelab uses, I've been enjoying Linstor/Piraeus a lot more than longhorn lately. Less issues overall so far and simpler.
johntash··on I still love PHP and JavaScript (2022)
Huh, well that sounds like it would have been useful. It's been at least 10 years since I did any php dev work, but maybe I'll find an excuse to use it again for something.
johntash··on Jiratui – A Textual UI for interacting with Atlassian Jira from your shell
Very cool, thanks! I'll give it a shot in the near future
johntash··on I still love PHP and JavaScript (2022)
I hadn't heard of frankenphp before this thread, but it looks cool. Thanks for mentioning it! I might play around with it sometime soon.
johntash··on I still love PHP and JavaScript (2022)
No clue how relevant they are today, but server side includes (SSI) solves the problem of wanting a _mostly_ static page with a little bit of dynamic content in it.
johntash··on I still love PHP and JavaScript (2022)
One of my biggest issues with php was the number of imports and file reads involved. It made running something like wordpress _really_ slow on slow disks or over nfs. I don't remember apcu or opcache helping much for that because I think it still did a stat on every file iirc.

For single-file php apps or just not using a big framework, it's not really a problem.

johntash··on Apertus 70B: Truly Open - Swiss LLM by ETH, EPFL and CSCS
I want to see something trained _only_ on stuff like encyclopedias, programming books, etc. I'm interested in how different it would be compared to something with a lot of social media in it.
johntash··on Claude Code: Now in Beta in Zed
Zed was working great for me on linux. It recently broke support for using a remote env over ssh, but locally still works fine.
johntash··on Claude Code: Now in Beta in Zed
zed crashes completely now for me when using a remote env over ssh since a couple releases ago.
johntash··on Bear is now source-available
Even better, thanks for the tip! I'll have another go at migrating to Hugo or maybe spend some time checking out other ones that are new to me.
johntash··on Show HN: Moribito – A TUI for LDAP Viewing/Queries
As someone else who has to do a lot of work with LDAP, thank you!

You might want to consider adding a LICENSE file to the repo. That's the first place I looked before noticing it at the bottom of the readme.
