johnnydoebk··on Tell HN: I’d like to sponsor your passion project
It's really cool to get compensation for work on your own project. And $700/week is a lot in the country I'm living in, it's enough for hiring 2-4 good software developers (I know a few groups of people who do work for YC companies).

But I would feel very uncomfortable knowing that the person who pays me doesn't get something valuable back and doesn't really need what I'm working on (but rather "provides more value to the universe"). That is probably just me, though.

johnnydoebk··on Ask HN: Why have you never used Assembly dot com?
This was exactly my experience as well (especially the UX part). Moreover, when scrolling the website was freezing (Firefox on Linux Mint).
johnnydoebk··on My Year as a Pro-Russia Troll Magnet
Corruption level is high in Russia, you're right here. But totalitarian government? I'm afraid, you drink too much someone else's Kool-aid. And as for the GDP fall. Could you please provide some references? Because mine show that it's not even close to what you've written [1] [2]. I'd like to read more about generations in the army and the aged military, too. Lack of any references but very big conclusions. That's exactly how pro-Russian trolls' messages look like.

johnnydoebk··on Why Russia’s Alternate History of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 Matters
>> When you point out to them how internet or cellphone networks or taxis or a number of other things is actually cheaper in Russia (or in eastern Europe in general) because of the lack of regulations or government interference, they go in denial.

Cool. I'm from a small 3rd world country. Just as in Russia the police officers sometimes rape detainees with bottles of champagne, there is literally no justice, but lots other funny things.

But our prices are lower than those in Russia. And it's OK if you are not paying taxes here. So what? Does it mean the rest of the world must be envy?

johnnydoebk··on Can you charge double and still keep your customers coming back?
>> Can you charge double and still keep your customers coming back?

I can charge 4000% and still keep my customers coming back.

Sincerely yours, Martin Shkreli.

johnnydoebk··on Our First Certificate Is Now Live
Could you provide a few examples of reputable and not so reputable CAs?
johnnydoebk··on Best practices for a new Go developer
I'm not interested in C++, not using it, do not care about it. So, I am neither visiting HN links that are about C++ nor taking part in discussions related to C++.

And I'm really curious what drives people in this thread that are coming to say they do not want to use Go, do not like it, and stuff like that?

johnnydoebk··on Show HN: Find your competitors that Google can't
How does it work? Looks like David Blaine street magic. I'm getting pretty good results even if keywords are really poor.
johnnydoebk··on Firefox exploit found in the wild
Well, sending some user files to Ukrainian server is a bug.

But sending hashes of your downloads to Google [1][2] is a feature, right?

johnnydoebk··on Telegram Suffers DDOS, Criticism For Enabling Human Rights Lawyers In China
>> Are you telling me that those same lawyers don't have iPhones

SUDDENLY, you know nothing about China and other developing & 3rd world countries.

johnnydoebk··on Why we kept our startup in Australia
> I don't know whether Scott is comparing Australia to UK/US or to other more latin countries like Spain or France.

Both Spain and France are European countries.

johnnydoebk··on Scientists have discovered a warm-blooded fish
>> Testing showed that the opah is able to maintain a core body temperature about 5 degrees Celsius warmer than the surrounding water.

I'm curious, what tasting will show.

johnnydoebk··on Ask HN: Is there any reason why startup accelerators are not online?
But accelerators are not only about money, aren't they? How about a process of looking for co-founders, learning... Video chats may be used for a better communication. At least, online model can be combined with the classical accelerators. What do you think?
johnnydoebk··on Pavel Durov quits as VKontakte CEO
News about Pavel's departure appeared long before the conflict you're talking about. So these two events are not connected.
johnnydoebk··on Pavel Durov quits as VKontakte CEO
>> I've been following the Crimea conflict very closely (which almost certainly is also what caused Pavel's departure) Reference is needed.
johnnydoebk··on Ask HN: is there still a country without web censorship?
It is not possible to censor what does not exist, right?
johnnydoebk··on Journalists Reportedly Banned From Smartphone Photography At Olympics In Russia
The Russian article Gregory Ferenstein has referred to looks like a translation from English: "Съёмку поставят вне закона" and "кто-то из журналистов будет схвачен"... Well, that's definitely written by some English speaking guy (for Russian public).
