johneke··on Ask HN: Did your AWS bill literally double from last night?
I wonder if AWS is prepping for a pricing hike but someone was trigger happy with the big red button :D
johneke··on How not to hire a software engineer
Thank you for writing this. I really hope common sense prevails soon. I have no idea how we got to the point where the "test" for a job has nothing to do with the job. I think senior engineers and tech leads need to actively work to kill this culture. I personally will never interview someone for my team by using some random questions from the internet that have nothing to do with what the candidate will work on. Again, great post
johneke··on Show HN: MiDrive – Self-hosted Dropbox-like interface for your S3 bucket
> Not cheap and if you update the major verson once a year it can become rather expensive.

Point noted :) we will continue to monitor the feedback on this.

> Dropbox-like interface, but not that functionality ? The main selling point of Dropbox is the auto syncing of files ?

We are still in BETA, so we are definitely still very light on features. Lots more are coming, but we figured we'd take an iterative approach.

johneke··on Ask HN: Which abandoned proprietary software would you resurrect?
> "High-performance lightweight desktop email clients"

I hope the SublimeHQ gods are listening to this

johneke··on Please Make Google AMP Optional
Even if people are for/against AMP, I think it does make sense to have AMP optional. For instance Google searches will often show the "Ad"-ified link at the top, but with the regular link somewhere below in the search results. Google could just as easily have the AMP and non AMP links in the search results if they aren't really the evil corp everyone thinks they are :)
johneke··on Ask HN: How to evangelize your startup idea amidst overwhelming negativity
Thanks a lot for the comment! Gotta do a better job of interpreting peoples responses and not necessarily immediately assume them to be negative. I also find some comments that are actually negative usually have something positive I can take away from it, so working on that "skill" as well :)
