johndoe90··on Ask HN: Which project management and team communication software do you use?
Redmine, xmpp/jabber.
johndoe90··on KaiOS – A Smartphone Operating System
I still have a ZTE Open C with me. It has 512MB of RAM and 2-core CPU.

It's been running on the Firefox OS quite slow. Having in mind a very poor functionality, I considered to switch to Android. When I installed Android, it was a total game changer. It was fast and smooth (back in 2014 of course, not now) and I never installed Firefox OS again.

johndoe90··on Google closes its $1.1B deal with HTC Corp
There must be an option in Display settings, named “Display Burn-In protection”. Do you have it enabled? Just curious, because I just purchased a Pixel 1.
johndoe90··on How the US Pushed Sweden to Take Down the Pirate Bay
I hope TPB will teach copyright owners a lesson that there's no point and no way to fight piracy.
johndoe90··on There are over a billion outdated Android devices in use
Flash some custom rom (LineageOS for example) and you'll have all the updates you want.
johndoe90··on There are over a billion outdated Android devices in use
I think if you update often enough (at least when some vulnerabilities found), you're more safe than if you don't.
johndoe90··on Show HN: A really addictive way to read /r/todayilearned
Oh, I had the same idea for a long time, but haven't ever came around making it real. Although I wanted to make it for android, not iOS.

Good luck with your app, guys.

johndoe90··on Russian ads, now publicly released, show sophistication of influence campaign
So I thought about it.

There is a way that I could rethink of my candidate. If someone (a paid troll for instance) was targeted against me. If they would have been talking to me and sending proofs I could believe in, then, probably, I could even change my opinion.

And you know what? Russia has trolls. It's even worse, it's centralized troll factory — a house of paid trolls.

But even if those trolls were told to “make America great again” with Trump, they wouldn't have impact big enough to change anything.

johndoe90··on Russian ads, now publicly released, show sophistication of influence campaign
Do you think this could really have any impact on the elections?

I don't see how any of those images or texts could change my opinion on who I want to be the president. Why would anyone take them into consideration?

P.S. I'm Russian. I'm no fan of propaganda and I just want to figure out whether our government really wanted Trump to be the president and if so, then why? I might have missed something, but I don't see that the decisions Trump making are any good for Russia. I see the opposite.

For example, Trump wanted to remove the oil production limit, which would have affected Russian economics.

johndoe90··on CKEditor 5: New approach to rich text editing on the web
AFAIK CKEditor has theming support and one of bundled themes is MSWord.
johndoe90··on Google Sued by 3 Female Ex-Employees Who Say It Pays Women Less Than Men
I wonder if their skills are on the same level as the men who were paid more. And I'm curious, did they ask every single man in Google how much they get paid? Probably, there are some men who make even less than they do (or did).

Please don't consider me a sexist, but this kind of stuff is everywhere now and it's hard to tell whether it's a truth or not.

johndoe90··on A method for improving Milky Way exposures in light pollution
Didn't know that one. Thanks a lot!
johndoe90··on A method for improving Milky Way exposures in light pollution
I wonder where are the star trails. Wouldn't 30s exposure make earth movement noticeable?
johndoe90··on Uber drivers gang up to cause surge pricing, research says
This will be beneficial up to some point in the future, when riders decide to boycott Uber.
johndoe90··on Uber drivers gang up to cause surge pricing, research says
Might be a coincidence, but lately I've noticed the same thing in Russia.
johndoe90··on LaiNES – Cycle-accurate NES emulator in around 1000 lines of code
I guess it's about emulation accuracy. Some emulators fail to emulate correctly for the purpose of speed, which causes visual and sound artifacts.

This comes to the host CPU power. The more accurate the emulator, the more power from the host will be needed.

UPD: Found a wiki article: http://emulation-general.wikia.com/wiki/Emulation_Accuracy

johndoe90··on Ask HN: As a developer, how can I take advantage of time spent driving to work?
You're just like me. Except for I don't drive, I take a bus, then subway and then bus again.

I do read HN, Medium, twitter (all IT-related) and other resources. Though sometimes it's really pretty hard to concentrate and read articles carefully. I also use headphones to not get distracted by the engine noice.

johndoe90··on Kaspersky OS
Those were two different opinions. First is mine, the second is my interviewer's.
johndoe90··on Kaspersky OS
No leaks doesn't mean there's nothing to leak.
johndoe90··on Kaspersky OS
Given that there's not only software bugs, but the hardware ones, I wonder how secure it would be. I personally hate their software, but still, it would be nice to know.

P.S. Security without open-sourcing is impossible. Although, dunno how for other countries, but here in Russia some people have a different point of view.

Some people believe that “opensource is insecure by design, because everyone can see the code”. Probably Kaspersky has the same point.

johndoe90··on Donald Trump’s Contract with the American Voter [pdf]
>FIRST , cancel every unconstitutional executive action, memorandum and order issued by President Obama.

Does this mean the LGBT rights to marry will be taken back?

johndoe90··on Linux 16.04 exploit
What is Linux 16.04?
johndoe90··on GitHub has 11,995,200 open issues
I wonder if one day GitHub will announce the World's Issue Closing Day. The day every programmer will try hard to close their issues. Though, isn't it what we do every day?
johndoe90··on Ask HN: Would you hire a programmer without a degree?
By the way, I have thought about online courses. I think I'm gonna try MIT course.
johndoe90··on Ask HN: Would you hire a programmer without a degree?
> What you should really look into (and I had to do this as well, though not moving from Russia) is what countries you can easily get a visa to without a degree

I did not think of that option, thank you.

johndoe90··on Ask HN: Would you hire a programmer without a degree?
That's not what I'm asking. I'm currently working at a Russian company as a Java EE developer. So, "professional programming experience" is the thing I'm getting right now.

Update: I was hired with no experience. But here's another country, different people, different companies. I came up with this question to find out if other countries are better or worse with such thing as hiring an ungraduated employee.

johndoe90··on Android Studio 2.0 Released
AFAIK they used modified version of QEMU to run Android. Will the speed enhance take any effect on the base QEMU? Or there were just OS optimizations?
