john4532452··on Zoom closes account of U.S.-based Chinese activist after Tiananmen event
The problem is china's problem is not contained within china. CCP will force Zoom or any other companies to give the data they collect in other countries and due to market forces those companies has to comply legally or otherwise. Now do you see the problem, why china's authority to censor the internet is not an isolated issue ?
john4532452··on Finally, I Closed My LinkedIn
> From a professional standpoint LinkedIn gave me a lot of value for free

Could you please explain like what value you derive out of it. LinkedIn primary purpose is to build your professional network so that you can find your next job easily. It does not work out because programmers does not vouch for someone unless they have worked directly in my experience.

john4532452··on Advice to new managers: don't joke about firing people
Another thing every Manager should know about perceived power vs actual power. Considerable managers i have encountered think they are the loyal employees where as programmers are sellout's who switch when the get better offer. This is true to some degree but that does not give more power to the managers.

john4532452··on Repetition and Learning – misconceptions about effective studying
> Brahmins, are known for self-control, patience, begging for alms

When one has self-control why should they beg ? Its contradictory ?

john4532452··on IBM gets out of facial recognition business
Its reasonable to be cynic about any for profit corporation. On the other hand facial recognition is not yet dominated by any single organization and IBM can enter if they really wanted to, so i guess there is some good faith involved.
john4532452··on Repetition and Learning – misconceptions about effective studying
Is it true according to Vedas the Hindu religious books sudras are forbidden to learn and hear them as it is written in Sanskrit. Do you have any recommendations of the English translation of the Vedas ?

Just Curious. Have you been using zettelkasten, org-roam or similar tool to take notes whenever you came across this topic and publishing now as the compiled version ?

john4532452··on John Carmack is reading and contributing to OpenBSD source code
The burden of proof is on the accuser.
john4532452··on Ask HN: Any job boards and age-friendly companies for older developers?
When companies no longer own physical offices, interviews will be remote and one can use software filters or dye hair to look younger and avoid age bias. I am not being sarcastic, i genuinely fear of getting rejected due to age.
john4532452··on Ask HN: Any job boards and age-friendly companies for older developers?
I understand, but think about in next 10 years when all the hairs turn grey.
john4532452··on Ask HN: Any job boards and age-friendly companies for older developers?
The age bias is real. I am glad remote work is being embraced by many companies, it will help fight against age bias.
john4532452··on Writing and the narrative fallacy (2018)
The narrative fallacy is that human form simpler narratives because the reality is very complicated to comprehend. May be it is true, but how to prove. It is possible to prove narrative is simple, but to measure the incomprehensible reality.
john4532452··on John Carmack is reading and contributing to OpenBSD source code

john4532452··on A 2020 Vision of Linear Algebra
Yes. 3Blue1Brown has himself said multiple times no videos is substitute for text books.
john4532452··on A 2020 Vision of Linear Algebra
Malcom Gladwell made a similar point on his podcast http://revisionisthistory.com/episodes/06-my-little-hundred-...
john4532452··on Why does writing matter in remote work?
Any text longer than 3 lines must go through multiple edits. This rule must be applied to all forms of textual communication including slack or teams chat.

PS: I would be thankful if you can make my post succinct without any loss in the information.

john4532452··on Why does writing matter in remote work?
My hypothesis is technical writing is different from non-technical writing and those who have mastered both the skills are in huge demand and have better career path than being a coach.
john4532452··on What we get wrong about Machiavelli
Comparing Chanakya to the works of Machiavelli is not fair. Chanakya was from priestly class who used the religious belief's of the people to his leverage and overthrow the king who did not accept Brahmin(priest) class is superior to Kings. His writing's is about advocating the class system. In the case of Machiavelli his writings is about the observation's of what qualities both good and bad were required to be a king.

john4532452··on German minister backs creating legal right to work from home
Another point in favor of remote work is trans people feel safe WFH . https://genevievefiles.blogspot.com/2019/06/remote-work.html
john4532452··on German minister backs creating legal right to work from home
Most companies set the limit on the working hours and its not such a big issue to adopt to. Post covid-19 this trend of WFH is going to be the norm

Even the software service companies are realizing the benefits of WFH. https://www.businesstoday.in/current/corporate/post-coronavi...

john4532452··on Paul Graham’s thoughts, discoveries, and tricks on parenthood
> According to the Vedas, one's varna dharma is independent of one's family. I've said this in every single post in this thread.

Yet, every time you have been wrong((https://hinduism.stackexchange.com/a/4104). What vedas says about movement of varna is that it is permitted only if it is accepted by other community which is not practical due to the incentive structure i have already explained in my previous reply. The varna conversions are cited only in the stories from the hindu holy books, it is never an independent choice. And the rules are entirely different when it comes to the highest varna in the hierarchy(i.e priest). The priest must volunteer himself to change if he feels for 16 years he has not done the duties according to his varna(NOTE: The pronoun "he" is used intentionally. Because women is considered lower that the bottom of varna system) . Now do you see why the movement b/w varna never happened and not practical.

> I suspect based on your username (John) and your use of "Britisher" that you're a Christian in India, which is likely why you continue to spread ignorance

I am born to Hindu family, but i am an atheist turned antagonistic. My motivation is to make logical conversation and convince that getting rid of varna system is better for India and not undo the progress.

> your use of "Britisher" What do you mean by this ?
