john4532452··on Jack Ma makes first live appearance in three months in online meet
Also how the 10 year term was removed. Seems like this is a core principle in the CCP party, but what events caused this to change. Was this planned from a long time or it the circumstances were right and it was grabbed.
john4532452··on Jai Language Primer (2017)
It took me a long time to find this out. It never occured to me the source code is private when an author is posting so many videos and discussing about the design of language.
john4532452··on Jai Language Primer (2017)
The source code is not even published for public access
john4532452··on Tell HN: Aaron Swartz died today, 8 years ago
Thanks so much for posting this link. In the documentary "Internet's Own Boy" about Aaron( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M85UvH0TRPc ) some one made a insightful comment about Aaron. The insight is this, there are people who are highly technically capable and then there are people who live by high morals and sacrifice themselves for a political cause, but the intersection of the two in a same person is very very rare. And that very true. The only other person who fits in this category is probably Richard Stallman.
john4532452··on Signal Fork with WhatsApp Migration
This same argument is made over and over in many threds. I don't understand why this is so hard to understand. Even mobiles and social media were totally new to the older generation but they got used to it. How is this any different ?
john4532452··on WhatsApp whitepaper removed sentence about never having access to private keys
The WhatsApp client is a closed source, so why is this news ? Is this some kind of promise from the company that the client will not have access to private keys ?
john4532452··on No meetings, no deadlines, no full-time employees
Exactly. On this topic Bertrand Russell has an essay http://www.zpub.com/notes/idle.html
john4532452··on The Gervais Principle, or the Office According to “The Office” (2009)
FWIW. The author is a supporter of caste system.

john4532452··on Zero to Emacs and Org-roam: a step-by-step guide on Windows 10
I was surprised to see the author of org-roam abandoned personal emacs config in favor of spacemacs. I did not expect this from a pro emacs user.
john4532452··on Zero to Emacs and Org-roam: a step-by-step guide on Windows 10
One major hurdle is understanding that keybinds are not adhoc. https://old.reddit.com/r/emacs/comments/a5j3lc/emacs_key_bin...
john4532452··on Modern mathematics emerged from “The House of Wisdom” in the 13th century
Ok. This one was a bit too far. I agree.

But this is not https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=25319136

How to respond to the arguments that support religion and discourage it.

PS: I am not just against ISLAM if that's what any one thinks(look at my past comments)

john4532452··on Modern mathematics emerged from “The House of Wisdom” in the 13th century
Both are missing the point. The important point is this was before Islam.
john4532452··on Only distributed fact-checking can keep up with democratized distribution
I don't know if this will work or not, definitely worth experimentation. This is a true original idea. Hearing for the first time.
john4532452··on The real class war is within the rich
Good Point. In the democracy too some chosen leader is making decision for others, the change in the startrek world would be the individual has an option to not follow the leader, simply because it would be possible.
john4532452··on Blender 2.91
Are there any resource of free and opensource human female models ?
john4532452··on Blender 2.91
Definitely not travel in first class and book exotic hotels i guess
john4532452··on Tell HN: Thank You Dang

If you are looking for a solution to managing files and are an emacs user try emacs bongo mode. There is a great introduction video https://protesilaos.com/codelog/2020-08-06-emacs-bongo-extra...

Apple's products are both SASS and HASS. You dont own Apple products. You just rent it.
john4532452··on Attention Is My Most Valuable Asset for Productivity as a Software Developer
Regarding the Cal Newport i was surprised to find he is very much pro religion.

john4532452··on How to count every language in India (2018)
For non-hindi speaking states both hindi and english are the same. At least with english it give jobs and enriches lives.
john4532452··on How to count every language in India (2018)
> Hindi fits the bill among st all other Indian languages is because it has the largest footprint

Not true. Even if it were think about the following analogy given by a national leader. I dont remember his name. There are more crows in India than Peacock. Yet Peacock is the national bird not the crow.

If there must be a national language then it should be English. Simply because it is the one that has prospered the coutry. Hindi does not help the states where hindi is the primary language. Bihar people migrate to south india for jobs and learn tamil and telegu, while the south indians leave india to abroad.

Preach Hindi to the people who are still low class but you learn english conveniently, thats evil IMO.

john4532452··on I Violated a Code of Conduct
I understand the good faith about CoC but it does not serve its intended purpose. CoC is a tool to wield the power that comes with the ability to program without having to work hard to acquire the skill to program. It makes me sick to see non programmers controlling the language of programmers.
john4532452··on Org Mode's new site
I was in the same boat until i realized emacs key bindings are not adhoc. It falls in to place once the basic emacs key binding conventions are understood.

john4532452··on 76% of American CEOs say they may shrink office space
Exactly that's my point which i should have been explicit. Currently technology exists to smoothen wrinkles in real time video. Also considering asking for age is not legal in may places this would significant avoid age bias.
john4532452··on 76% of American CEOs say they may shrink office space
Forget about private spaces. Age-bias is real. Especially after 35+ when you start to lose hair. WFH does help significantly to fight against age-bias. I hope full remote becomes the norm.
john4532452··on Debian donation for Peertube development
There are a lot of legal content that is banned. I have seen videos banned on dermatologist's channel due to obscene skin rashes. Same anything that spills blood etc. When it comes to politically controversial any commercial company has to take side with ruling party and ban the videos. PeerTube is alluring to them. Critical mass is not an issue IMO
