johannesburgel··on Finding a CPU Design Bug in the Xbox 360
The machine is still deterministic, it just doesn't conform to the assumption. It's a bug. You can only think about the bug when you write the assembly code if you know about it.

There is lots of hardware with strange bugs out there, and in some setups (embedded devices, mission critical systems etc.) it can be easier to work around them instead of trying to fix the hardware. I know of a medical systems manufacturer which still sticks to some incredibly old CPUs, a home-grown operating system and gcc 2.95 because after 15 years they think they at least know about all the problems and how to work around them. Fixing the issues would pretty much require them to re-validate the whole design and repeat all the testing, which would take several years.

Android is an operating system built on top of the Linux kernel project. "Android is not Linux but ${DISTRIBUTION} is" is just stupid, operating systems simply cannot be compared to a kernel.

The "tons of Ubuntu users and people who support diversity" are completely unimportant in both the Mir/Wayland and systemd cases. They don't contribute anything (except maybe a lot of drama), don't have the technical knowledge to decide anything and don't have to support anything. They're just spectators shouting from the tribunes.

systemd was resented by some users, but for developers it had so many advantages (especially stuff like logind) that a huge part of them just started happily using it.

As for Mir, I cannot think of a single discussion on any communications channel ever where a Non-Canonical developer thought it was a good idea. The GNOME people wouldn't even look at it. The KDE people openly stated that they hated it (http://www.mail-archive.com/ubuntu-devel@lists.ubuntu.com/ms... and https://blog.martin-graesslin.com/blog/2013/05/mir-in-kubunt...). No Non-Canonical developer ever added support for it to any UI toolkit. For me, that's very, very close to 'one voice'.

Well, technically you can also just use Vim and a Makefile to write C++ code for Android. SDL2 has backends for all the Android stuff, for example, as does Qt5.
johannesburgel··on Installing Ubuntu Personal 16.04 on Aquaris M10 tablet [video]
That's what they promised for the phones and the old version. The old version worked much better on the Aquaris M10 already. What is visible in this video is a huge step backwards.
