jofo25··on Somebody is to Blame for This
I was just stunned by the first comment by Matt

"Only thing I can write is "I should have heeded to your warning"".

How can someone have such bad taste.

jofo25··on Proposed new HTML tag: IMG (1993)
I can feel the breeze of it going over your head from my desk.

> And if a substantial number of them would opt-out that would be a much clearer sign than any elections ever could give that that society was on the wrong track.

I think this is a pretty interesting comment. It sparked the idea of a 'tax-free' zone in each country in my head. Like a area of each country with no government infrastructure or intervention. The proportion of population living in these zones would really give a good indicator of how the countries are treating it's citizens. People would be free to cross this fence whenever they wanted.

But in reality I don't think any country would want to give up land for such means.

I really agree. The irony is that this 'attack on freedom' was responded to with freedom being curtailed.

I also find the contrast with Norway's response to the 2011 massacre quite interesting (http://www.theatlanticwire.com/global/2011/07/comparing-how-...).

jofo25··on Woman recieves world's first bionic eye
Its steps like these that really make me feel like we're living in such an incredible and unprecedented time in human development.

Suddenly this thread comes to mind http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=4396747

All you comments may be valid, but for me it just came across as quite vicious.

jofo25··on Vim and Vi Tips: Essential Vim and Vi Editor Skills, free on Amazon today only
Brilliant. I love free things.
jofo25··on Firefox 3D view
Are you still able to interact with the document whilst in 3d mode? e.g. test jQuery animations, etc (unfortunately can't try it myself)
jofo25··on Why Facebook comments is a bad idea for your site
I think for an article or blog post, yea Facebook isn't that appropriate but most other places I find it useful for the pure fact that I can't really be bothered to make an account for every site I visit.
jofo25··on Linus talks about Apple laptops, Linux distributions, his work
Supplementary interview with Linus from the BBC: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-17784495
jofo25··on Poll: Do you think HN should go dark in protest of SOPA?
This rang very true with me. I'm willing to wager only a tiny percentage of HN users have communicated their opposition to SOPA/PIPA to their representatives. Something like providing links to appropriate resources would convert time usually spent browsing HN into time actually helping stop SOPA/PIPA.
jofo25··on UK Schools ICT to be replaced by computer science programme
Unfortunately, I really agree with this analogy. I can see this move to programming being beneficial for England's IT sector but I don't think it will be popular when implemented in schools. I hope it is though! Many students will really love learning to code but I can see a far greater proportion of others taking a real dislike to it. Overall, I guess it depends on the methods in which it is taught.
