joeythedolphin··on Ask HN: Is GPT-4o overall worse than GPT-4 for you?
It's nearly useless for me. GPT-4 used to be so good, 3.5 even, but I believe they have nerfed processing power per request, and the OpenAI stack is virtually useless to me, I tend to rely on Claude.
joeythedolphin··on Unexpected responses from ChatGPT: Incident Report
No it's a digital neural network expressing it's inputs and outputs in language.
joeythedolphin··on Unexpected responses from ChatGPT: Incident Report
Um yes I do? Lol why do you just assume this?
joeythedolphin··on Unexpected responses from ChatGPT: Incident Report
I don't know, it's more then this. I ask ChatGPT to teach me all about Hinduism, the siva purana, ancient indian customs, etc., and it is an incredible tutor. I can ask it to analyze things from a Jungian perspective. I can ask it to consider ideas from a non-typical perspective, etc. It is pretty incredible, it is more then a word gargler.
joeythedolphin··on GPT-4 API General Availability
Sam tells Congress that AI is so dangerous it will extinct humanity. Why? So Congress can license him and only his buddies. Then get goes to euro and speaks with world leaders to remove consumer protection. Why? So he can mine data without any consequences. He is a narcissistic CEO who lies to win. If you are tired of the past decade of electronic corporate tyranny, abuse, manipulation and lies, then boycott OpenAi (should be named ClosedAi) and support open source, or ethical companies (if there are any).
joeythedolphin··on Tips for programmers to stay ahead of generative AI
I hate these articles. "Take a deep breath and refocus". "Find a way of working that works for you." "Stick with that you know." "Understand risks." It's so meta it's useless.
joeythedolphin··on GPT-4 API General Availability
Great point -- I was thinking of renewing my $20/subscription but I will keep it cancelled. We must not fund AI propaganda machines.
joeythedolphin··on Drastic increase in Tor clients from Germany
Fascinating, thanks!
joeythedolphin··on After September 1, 2023, all Gfycat content and data will be deleted
They may have absorbed tech, offering a counter service, or prefer customers to be invested in one service form over another service form. Or C-levels or replaced. Or or.... (tons of reasons)
joeythedolphin··on After September 1, 2023, all Gfycat content and data will be deleted
Their service also got destroyed by SEO. Google has been at war with the public for decades. They simply lost. The public literally destroyed their product. Then they needed to increase ads. They are on a runaway train to zero.
joeythedolphin··on After September 1, 2023, all Gfycat content and data will be deleted
Good summary. Clear, concise, real. I wish we had advocacy groups sitting on corners with signs saying this. Seriously. People need to wake up, and they need a concise understanding to latch onto. I say it like this, "Perhaps social media where you upvote, downvote and like is just a shitty idea, for businesses and people. I think people WILL realize this, and I am hoping it will not crash software engineering, but I think it will, but most people building shitty software will leave the industry, while the useful software will continue. So it's important to be with an employer in an industry that is legitimate.
joeythedolphin··on Twitter Is DDOSing Itself
It seems the majority of Twitter articles are about the poor quality of engineering solutions or Elon's inability to "pay his Google bill". It strikes me as propaganda when what we are truly witnessing is the rush to wall-garden the internet as AI LLM takes over.
joeythedolphin··on Twitter Is DDOSing Itself
People are awake all hours of the day.
joeythedolphin··on Twitter Is DDOSing Itself
Yup! And as somebody living in the United States, it is not so obvious how I would learn about Russian holidays, etc.
joeythedolphin··on Twitter Is DDOSing Itself
I would not be surprised if Twitter is substantially Indian or spread across the world.

Entertainment is one piece, but the control of information and narrative is far more critical. Think election victory or losses, capital city riots, business boycots, and opinions towards LGBTQ+ etc. I've always believed flesh and blood died in wars but the war was really over thinking. In today's insular, isolated, community-deprived world, your social media (for many people at least) is their only way to interact with or understand the world at all.
joeythedolphin··on Drastic increase in Tor clients from Germany
Can you say more about East Germany and what is going on there for them to be open to conspiracy theories, neurotic thoughts, etc?
joeythedolphin··on Drastic increase in Tor clients from Germany
It could be INTERPOL

I think it's impossible to get it down to 0, but yes, all though services were worked out of my life. I don't expect them to be free, I expect to pay for more services than your average person, and that's the point of my above post.
joeythedolphin··on YouTube is testing a more aggressive approach against ad blockers
They steal your data without telling you (complex legal verbiage on multi-pay TOS's is not a justification). After they steal your data, they push you advertisements that are devoid of morality. Even if I buy their service, I cannot go to their home page without them pushing violence, animal abuse, drug use, provocative sex, biased politics, etc. Even if I buy their service, I must expect they are funneling my data in terrible ways. Even if I follow all the rules, the service continues to abuse me.

I am looking to build a house, and a few days ago I was driving on the highway and saw a billboard for a custom house builder. I made a mental note never to contact that company. If your ad is on the highway, you are not building my house :)
joeythedolphin··on YouTube is testing a more aggressive approach against ad blockers
Did Google ever unfairly dominate competition? Did Google ever use their power tyrannically? Did Google ever release a product or design that caused untold social damage? Does Google deserve stellar treatment because they treat us stellar? Even if you view their ads or buy their product, is the product still not free of exploiting you? Why is it not the correct moralism that we have a right and a duty to take everything from them until they are no more?
joeythedolphin··on YouTube is testing a more aggressive approach against ad blockers
Good points. Just to answer, Google is dying. Search and YouTube are legacy technology. It looks like they hit a runaway economic train where they must enshittify their product worse to keep the balance shit, which drives more people away, which requires further enshittification. Google is in major trouble.
joeythedolphin··on YouTube is testing a more aggressive approach against ad blockers
Anyone know how to stop sites from saying, "It looks like you're using an adblocker... blah blah blah"
joeythedolphin··on YouTube is testing a more aggressive approach against ad blockers
I had to turn off the sports. Used to love NHL (and TV), but it was not worth the dark destructive undercurrent in my life. It really robbed me of happiness and potential. It became much easier just to turn hockey off. If a service does not have an ad-free version, it is simply not available to me.

The Doctors are being privately lobbied behind the scenes. Then the patient comes in with the idea for the drug. A preemptive match is already made in heaven. It's capitalizing and profiteering off medical conditions. What they do to Doctors is probably far worse than their idiotic ads warning you of sudden heart failure, stroke, etc.

It's shocking, these days you can even buy a paid service and still be forced to watch ads (Hulu)
