joeyspn··on Psytrance Guide
If anyone wants to check a really cool interactive guide of electronic music genres and their history check Ishkur’s Guide. It's old but still one of the best ones ever made. (You'll need to activate flash)

http://techno.org/electronic-music-guide/

And here a more modern version with near 3k genres (although not as informative and visual):

IMHO you should open source a core version and focus on monetizing premium themes and integrations. This has huge potential to grow as a FOSS tool. You'd get a lot of collaborators.

> Is Brave 100% open source?

They have the project on github so I guess the answer is yes...

The business model is also quite smart, since the users get paid BAT tokens for viewing ads.

joeyspn··on Google Chrome has become surveillance software. It’s time to switch
I moved to brave a while ago. Works great both in desktop and mobile, and you still get chromium under the hood.

The metrics it shows about the amount of ads and trackers blocked is astonishing...

joeyspn··on SEC Asks Manhattan Federal Court to Hold Elon Musk in Contempt
^ This

I recently read a group of high profile journalists (mainstream media) stating that "Twitter is where we get the news from"...

Twitter has become a sort of real-time news agency. If you follow the correct profiles in your niche/sector not even Reuters can beat the speed of 95% of the events. If there's a newsworthy event, chances are it's first on twitter than in any other media outlet.

joeyspn··on Paul Allen has died
Sometimes I wonder what the tech industry could achieve if all companies agreed to donate 1% of resources to find a cure for cancer. I know that derived advances in tech (ML/Data Science, etc) have an impact but… is it really enough? We could do sooo much more for contributing to eradicate this disease.

RIP Paul Allen.

I was just speaking with Datawire/Ambassador CEO in their slack about Oathkeeper... you should reach out and speak with them. Interesting synergies IMO.

joeyspn··on Ask HN: Anyone making money through algorithmic trading?
These things happen, and with much bigger amounts... Trend following or HFT strategies are not the only way to make profit in inefficient markets. Eg:

https://www.straitstimes.com/business/companies-markets/bitc...

joeyspn··on Ask HN: Anyone making money through algorithmic trading?
I know cases of algo traders coming from capital markets that have been so successful that they were banned in some crypto exchanges for using highly efficient strategies. One of the guys (he works in a top market maker during the day) told me he was making around 100btc/month back in Q1-Q2'17.

Edit: Not saying it's easy to reach that level of profits, just that it's possible for professional/sophisticated traders.

joeyspn··on Ask HN: Who is hiring? (November 2017)
> Hiring is hard, this could be just the result of poor hiring practices, or it could be something else entirely.

This is the result of reaching the top of Who's Hiring twice, we received almost 2k emails when we expected 50-100. I'm the only one screening CV's with 1-2 hours/day available for this task.

If anyone is expecting a Google structure behind this, then no. We are 3 normal guys starting a new project from scratch, and said it in the job posts. Because of the growing interest in crypto, we had massive unexpected success with our job posts and we are a bit overloaded.

We are sorry for any inconvenience that this has caused. We won't post again until we have a recruitment team in place.

joeyspn··on Ask HN: Who is hiring? (November 2017)
Pedro, I just sent you an email. Apologies for the delay...
joeyspn··on Ask HN: Who is hiring? (November 2017)
Hi Jules, this is the 3rd month that we post. In 2 months we've received a lot of CVs, but I'm afraid it's been impossible to reply to all of you.

Please don't take it personally. I'll send you an email now.

Yes, we've reached to many people with a very specific background... and since I posted today's job offer I've personally replied to like 20 emails.
joeyspn··on Ask HN: Who is hiring? (November 2017)
Precisely. We'll contact you if we find your profile interesting.
