FWIW, I've been running near-barefoot for almost a decade without having to take any significant breaks for injury. I'm in NYC, so I run on cement, year-round, usually 20+ miles/week. I'm in my late 40s.
The best lesson of running barefoot is simply listening to your body. My goals are to feel good during the run and then to feel good afterwards. If things start to hurt, rest a few days. Nearly all running-related injuries are overuse injuries.
Mainstream running culture often has terrible advice. Don't try to run through pain. Anti-inflammatories can be helpful after long runs, but please do not take painkillers _before_ a run, pain exists for a reason.
I haven't done any exhaustive comparison of Brave against Chrome/Firefox with uBlock Origin, but the media sites I visit in Brave sure do like to remind me about the ad blocker.
From my personal experience in nyc, and from talking to neighbors who own restaurants, small and family owned businesses are absolutely hurting. They’ve reduced staff, and owners are making up lost hours themselves. Delivery has been mostly outsourced. The price of everything on the menu has gone up. A number of lower-cost restaurants have closed completely. Whatever reported numbers the author based this upon do not tell a complete story.
> ...because WSL 2 works on Windows 10 Home edition, so will Docker Desktop
Glad to see this too:
> bind mounts from WSL will support inotify events and have nearly identical I/O performance as on a native Linux machine
The goal of these bans is to force use of better materials. The huge majority of plastic pollution comes from the economic fringes in Asia, but demanding goods come in better packaging to be sold in large western markets will hopefully tip the financial scales enough to force manufacturers' hands resulting in less plastic waste globally. I can get behind that.
The ecosystem is radically better than it used to be. Composer and the Packagist registry are as mature and dependable as npm, PyPI or RubyGems. (despite hours lost to my own namespace screwups). I'm also happy to see the Prettier-PHP project automating and enforcing code-style standards.
For whatever reason, I often feel clumsier after working on a PHP project. After working in other languages like JS or Python, I tend to feel like I've leveled-up my skills.
One thing I wish PHP would address is the inconsistency in its map-filter-reduce functions -- their argument-order doesn't match (array, callback) vs. (callback, array):
array_filter($arr, $fn)
array_map($fn, $arr)
array_reduce($arr, $fn)
The amount of cognitive overhead I've wasted on those is ridiculous.Bush's made an empty campaign promise then Obama kicked the idea so far down the road it was totally out of sight.
But five years? That's doable insane. Like, get Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos and NASA in a room ask them who wants this more.

This article appears to have originated with a Bike Portland (and No More Freeways) campaign against freeway expansion and for decongestion pricing.
Can pretty much stop there. I think Amazon saw a mayor and governor who thought they traded tax breaks for a say in how Amazon runs its business.
This was a huge loss for the city. LIC will be toxic to big business for years. And now the mayor is passing the blame to the very corporations who would come in and create jobs.
