joe24pack··on AI Can Detect Illnesses in Human Breath
That was my first thought too.
joe24pack··on Sum of 1 to 1000000000 in different programming languages
It's odd that the odd numbers slipped my mind. Thank you for your gracious correction.
joe24pack··on Sum of 1 to 1000000000 in different programming languages
I think I might be doing it wrong, because I didn't do any looping. I'm a bit too lazy and impatient for that, who wants to spend their afternoon adding all those numbers up even with a computer.

joe24pack··on Too Many Cops Are Told They’re Soldiers Fighting a War. How Did We Get Here?
When EPA and Department of Agriculture have their own SWAT teams, you know that SWAT teams are more for status display between high level bureaucrats than for any real need to fight off the nefarious activities of Dr Evil.
joe24pack··on This is a web page
Hipster huh? Well what about Lycos, remember that search engine?
joe24pack··on Encrypt your Google chats and make the NSA sad
And you don't think the EU isn't already doing pretty much the same thing?
joe24pack··on Aurora Borealis visible in Northern US tonight
Beautiful clear skies here in Berks County PA. I'm supposed to be able to see the auroras, but there is nothing yet to see.
joe24pack··on UCSD Computer Scientists Develop Video Game that Teaches How to Program in Java
Code Spells? Sheesh, sounds a _lot_ like Land of Lisp, but done with Java. Wonder what Conrad Barski thinks of this.
joe24pack··on The Quiet Ones
The search for quiet and some peace, maybe that is why I like to go hiking in remote places during colder weather. Yes there is still sound, but for some reason I find the sound of water or a light wind far more peaceful than the sound of people and the machines and gadgets they bring along.
joe24pack··on Generative Machines
Looks like some weird space station plans
joe24pack··on Life's too short to write shitty software
it's also a risk that might not work out.
joe24pack··on JSON or XML: Just Decide
YAML ? Easy to read, edit and understand.
joe24pack··on Story behind the animals on O'Reilly book covers
Ever notice that the O'Reilly books for Oracle have insects ("bugs") on the covers? Could there be a coded message in there?
joe24pack··on 'A Test You Need to Fail': A Teacher's Open Letter to Her 8th Grade Students
> What we need a hybrid system that allows good teachers to do what they want, while bad teachers are held accountable and forced to, at the least, teach the test.

Bad teachers being held accountable is a good idea. It is such a good idea that bad teachers should lose their jobs. In some cases they should even lose their certification.

joe24pack··on Poll: Which text editor do you use daily?
vim whenever I'm ssh'ed into some remote server, an ide when developing code in a project for work, emacs when playing with lisp, textwrangler when playing on my mac.
joe24pack··on I Was a Warehouse Wage Slave: Inside the online-shopping shipping machine
How much automation do you need and how "bulletproof" does it have to be? What's the up time? What sort of rates does it have to handle average and peak? How accurate does it have to be? Does your control and execution software have to be custom (since you business model and methods are oh so different than your competitors) or will the standard be good enough? Trust me automation and the software to drive it can be quite expensive.
joe24pack··on Google Will Start Country-Specific Censorship for Blogs
data and information bootleggers?
joe24pack··on Tim Berners-Lee Confirms The Exact Location Where the Web Was Invented: France
I know this is a bit nit picky, but WWW != internet.
joe24pack··on Supreme Court Says Congress May Re-Copyright Public Domain Works
But I bet Congress' approval rate among lobbyists and corporate campaign donors is much higher. After all we have the best Congress money can buy.
joe24pack··on WSJ comes out for SOPA
Rather than block those submissions why not automatically annotate/decorate them in such a way that users on the site know that the site's owners support SOPA/PIPA/Damaging the Internet
joe24pack··on WebGL Meincraft
completely non responsive, did not finish rendering first scene after waiting for about 4 minutes.
joe24pack··on Show HN: Doodle with strangers 1 on 1 in real-time
That was fun, I tried to paint a happy sky and a landscape, just like Bob Ross does on his shows. But I think I did it in the wrong order. Wonder if you could capture some of the pictures as they were being doodled and then show it as an animation, then let people vote on their favorites.
joe24pack··on Zynga to employees: Give back our stock or you'll be fired
Is Zynga's company motto "B.O.H.I.C.A." ? There is some potential rhyming there. Surely this could be turned into a lively limerick or a biting haiku.
joe24pack··on Think twice about that F-bomb in your next talk
How about the use of "impactful" ? (I swear by The Fates, the FSM's Noodly Appendage, and the Holy Handgrenade of Antioch that actual English speaking human beings used that word)

On the few occasions that I hear someone using the word "impactful", I'm tempted to ask "Do you mean 'effective'?"

joe24pack··on Google Fiber: 151Mbps down / 92Mbps up
How is Gigabit FTTH different from ordinary FTTH ? Is it the fiber itself or the equipment on the endpoints ?
joe24pack··on Google Fiber: 151Mbps down / 92Mbps up
Well according to my ISP I have 8Mbs down and 4Mbs up ... or at least that is what they bill me for and yes the latency on my connection is good. I'm not sure how accurate those numbers are.
joe24pack··on Google Fiber: 151Mbps down / 92Mbps up
Not Google Fiber

Local ISP with fiber

joe24pack··on The Moment Of Truth For Airbnb As User’s Home Is Utterly Trashed
"Spring Time for Hitler" ... it's sure to be a "HIT"
joe24pack··on "The Bug Count Also Rises"
With your consent, I'm going to swipe that and post at the coffee machine at work.
joe24pack··on Sleep Sort
Of course it's brilliant, it just delegates the sorting to the scheduler. The OP on 4chan is ready for a PHB position at a large corporation.
