I built a little linear algebra interpreter. What do you think?

jobhdez··on Dear back end web engineers: how would you describe back end work?
Thank you so much for this response.
jobhdez··on Ask HN: Did studying proof based math topics make you a better programmer?
wow -- thanks so much. I will learn group theory and abstract algebra. thanks

Very I interesting project. Thanks. I’m going to start using it for my job search. Great job!
jobhdez··on Tell HN: The dragon compiler book (2nd edition) is a great book
My apologies for saying the following but can you share some books or papers that support your view? The example that I provided was from the dragon book. CMU uses that same example for one of its ssa slides for an compiler optimization course. This makes me think that I can I indeed lower an ast to ssa that looks like the example I gave and still exploit the ssa for optimization. By the way the examples I provided above are from the dragon book.

Perhaps you work on llvm or something professionally?

But yeah if you can please provide support for your view. Thanks

Three address code:

```
p = a + b
q = p-c
p = q * d
```

Ssa:

```
p1 = a+ b
q1= p1 - c
p2 = q1 * d
```

Given the above examples how is it not straightforward to use ssa instead of three address code using what the dragon book teaches? What is wrong with the above examples?

In fact section 6.2.4 in the dragon book it says:

“Two distinctive aspects distinguish SSA from three-address code. The first is that all assignments in SSA are to variables with distinct names; hence the term static single-assigment.” The second one is that ssa uses a function to combine two definitions

jobhdez··on Ask HN: Where did you first come across functional programming?
The first programming language I learned was Scheme - I read the little schemer by Felleisen but my second book was what really taught me to program. This second book was structure and Interpretation of computer programs. I’ve been using lisp ever since. Scheme is a a beautiful language but I’m a Common Lisp guy now a days

It’s really rewarding though when you write a compiler. I recommend the experience. But if you think about compilers are so fundamental for the whole software infrastructure. So I think compilers is worth knowing. You will understand languages better; for example you will understand how statically and dynamic languages work because you will Implement a type checker, you will understand lexical scoping better because you will compile this to assembly; and overall you will have a better idea of how your high level code looks like in assembly which could help you write efficient code.you will also get to understand how memory is laid out which will help you appreciate NGINX.so by learning compilers I think you will be appreciate more web development. Those are my thoughts anyways. I’m not saying I’m correct but that’s what I’ve noticed in my journey

SICP was a great book too. It taught me to program, and bent my mind. I just marveled at the Beauty of it a few times.

I have heard good things about this book.
jobhdez··on Tell HN: The dragon compiler book (2nd edition) is a great book
The book introduces three address code which is similar to ssa
jobhdez··on Tell HN: The dragon compiler book (2nd edition) is a great book
Yea the authors of the book won a Turing award a few years ago.

I think you would have the knowledge to build a parser generator that then you can use to write a parser for json. But you can also also just learn how to use a parser generator. You’ll have to know a little bit about regular expressions for this

You can try this book if you want something that came out this year https://github.com/IUCompilerCourse/Essentials-of-Compilatio.... Go to the releases to either get the racket version or python version. But I mean cmu uses the dragon book second edition for a graduate level compiler optimization class.

But the dragon book introduces three address code. SSA is a variant of three address code. Take a look here http://www.cs.columbia.edu/~aho/cs4115/Lectures/15-03-25.htm....

I started playing chess when I was 18 and my highest rating I got was around 1500 on chess.com but then I stopped.

Lately I’ve been playing chess with a friend and I’m getting the hang of it and im finding chess really fun!

I want to get better now. Chess is fun you all. You should play it!

Thanks!

Thanks! Are you a compiler engineer?
jobhdez··on How likely is it to get a compiler software job with only a high school degree?
You didnt let me down :)

I know the compiler industry is full of people with masters degrees and PHDs.

then would you say getting at least a BS in math or CS the way to go? or should i aim harder and get a masters or PHD? thanks

jobhdez··on Ask HN: What does a developer need to know to build their own Lisp from scratch?
take a look at my scheme to c compiler written in Common Lisp for reference. I implemented a parser. https://github.com/Jobhdez/scheme-to-c
jobhdez··on Should I contribute to open source before my first job?
I was thinking of contributing to the Haskell compiler or llvm. I’m curious and interested in these. There’s also other smaller projects I’m interested in.

Hello guys and ladies,

check out my scheme to c compiler. I implemented closure conversion and continuation passing style conversion. the architecture is the following: parsing (ast) -> desugaring -> continuation-passing-style -> closure-conversion -> code generation. Take a look and give me some feedback if you can. thanks

jobhdez··on How much CS theory should I learn for my first entry level software job?
Thanks. Is a linear algebra system complex? I’ve written some systems that compute linear algebra operations.
