Is there another way?
Please keep agriculture for food.
Simple molecules like ethanol can be produced with electricity, water and air (CO2 capture). No need to sterilize a patch of land for that.
Besides I'm not sure ethanol is much needed, electric cars do not burn ethanol.
Failures don't get on HN front page
Hey, btw congrats :-)
Ten doublings is 1000x
They should put the sources online to let others continue with the initiative.
In the US 10-20% of agricultural land is used to produce chemicals like starch, sugar or biofuels, if we could use less land to produce these it would be great.
Photovoltaics could be up 100x more efficient in producing these chemicals.
This technology could free agricultural land back to natural habitats.
If your photovoltaics are 100x more efficient to produce your chemicals, agriculture is the dirty way of doing it.
After some readjustment we can expect AI companies to start using the new method to deliver more. Science fiction might happen sooner than expected.
Buy the dip.
Falcon Heavy: 65t to LEO
New Glenn: 45t to LEO
I'm comparing here on payload capacity to LEO
Just vague ideas like: it could be useful for quantum simulations or optimisation or maybe ...
If tomorrow we have a full running quantum computing what would we run on it? We are in a vacuum.
The only hope is a breakthrough in quantum algorithms. Nothing in sight, not much progress on this side.
Oh yes, Zapata Computing, the best funded company in quantum algorithms just went under this year.

So depending on the http-origin header the article is paywalled or not.
This is a trick I always use, it works for many newspapers.
Why would that be possible? Because they don't go on yet another fancy way to boil water to run a steam engine. They do direct energy conversion.
In a fusion reaction energy is mostly released as kinetic energy of particles. Their fusion reaction is aneutronic, ie with few neutrons. That means that the energy is released as movement of charged particles. By definition this is an electric current.
This current is directly captured by induction in the coils and sent to grid.
If their 2025 experiments go well, in 2028 they will start selling electricity to Microsoft which whom they have a power purchase agreement.
Thanks to the simplicity of their machine, they aim at a cost of 10$/MWh, competitive with solar. Their 50MW generator is shipping container size and be built in a factory by the dozens.
Ok, they may fail, they could also succeed though. Worth watching.
Here the estimate for solar radiation management injecting aerosols in the stratosphere is estimated at $18B/year per degree Celsius. For the whole planet. Seems to me pretty cheap, even a private initiative can finance that.
This not carbon capture vs net zero, the goal is net zero AND carbon capture.
