jmpavlec··on Show HN: Gametje – A casual online gaming platform
I'm open to people joining the business. At the moment, it is not open source.
jmpavlec··on Show HN: Gametje – A casual online gaming platform
I actually know these guys. Definitely give their platform a look!
jmpavlec··on Show HN: Gametje – A casual online gaming platform
I feel like a moron for never seeing this after 2.5 years :-D. Thanks for pointing it out! Maybe I'll make a cute animation of the contraction for a loading screen. I'll make sure to credit you.
jmpavlec··on Show HN: Gametje – A casual online gaming platform
It's been a part-time project since January 2023. I left my part-time job in July and started on this full-time in August after some vacation. Here's a recent blog post about going full-time: https://blog.gametje.com/posts/2025-09-16/

Would love to connect and trade some ideas. You can find my contact details at the bottom of the blog.

jmpavlec··on Show HN: Gametje – A casual online gaming platform
Did you have problems trying it out? I've been monitoring the metrics. Seems to be healthy but maybe I am missing something?
jmpavlec··on Show HN: Gametje – A casual online gaming platform
The frontend is written in Typescript/React (Vite) and the backend is Java + Spring Boot + Redis + Postgres. I'm using WebSockets for interactivity.

Author here, UI needs some work indeed. Given that I am a one man show and I'm mainly a backend developer, I did what I could. I've been trying to improve where I can.

What makes you say it is LLM generated? I have used some AI for images/avatars etc but not any of the frontend code/style. Using MUI with React for most of the components.

Open to any collaborators with good design/frontend skills.

jmpavlec··on Ask HN: What Are You Working On? (Nov 2025)
Working on https://gametje.com (a Jackbox games competitor). Been working on the Android TV app lately. Will probably start creating a new game next week with acronyms similar to the old game Acrophobia from the late 90s/early 2000s.
jmpavlec··on Show HN: Are You a Good Estimator?
Took it (didn't go too well score-wise).

Would be nice to have the units for each question on top. Or in the input boxes themselves. I was on mobile and had to scroll down to see it. Mixing raw numbers and units of billions was confusing as well. There were definitely questions like the one about volume where I had no idea what a cubic mile really was conceptually (as opposed to a liter or something).

Regardless, reading about the study and comparing my own results was interesting.

I wonder if the inputs could be done using a slider given you are always selecting a range, that would be more intuitive.

jmpavlec··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (October 2025)
Looks interesting, I have one question about the pricing and a main button on the home screen, it says "Protect your family (free forever)" and yet there is a monthly fee (which makes sense of course). What does the free forever bit mean?
jmpavlec··on Launch HN: Simplex (YC S24) – Browser automation platform for developers
Looks nice but that's a pretty steep increase from free trial to the lowest tier of 2500/month. Is there really nothing in between? Like a pay as you use plan?
jmpavlec··on Java 25's new CPU-Time Profiler
Really curious what makes you say this. Do you see the same thing in other languages? I've worked with many great Java devs over the years and think I'm halfway decent myself after working with it for 16+ years. Are there some bad ones in between? Sure, but that's true of any language (especially javascript).
jmpavlec··on Show HN: Making a cross-platform game in Go using WebRTC Datachannels
>Right now, this can only support two players on the same computer

So the example only currently works with 2 clients on the same computer? Seems like a pretty substantial limitation. How much more work is it to support other computers and 2+ clients?

jmpavlec··on Show HN: Ten years of running every day, visualized
Something funky with your personal beats. It says your best 5k was in 35:35 but your best 10k was in 43:26. Not possible for those both to be true . I guess the 5k data is screwy since that is quite a slow 5k time.

Edit: seems maybe tht 5k is mislabeled, should be 5 miles... But that feels like a less standardized time.

jmpavlec··on Show HN: I built this to talk Danish to my girlfriend – works with any language
Tried it with some Dutch, only getting "Unable to process correction" errors. Good idea but seems it need a bit more error handling.
jmpavlec··on Show HN: MidWord – A Word-Guessing Game
A little presumptuous to say it is the world's "favorite" guessing game... But I had fun for a few words. It was nice you could press the enter key on mobile and keep the keyboard up.

Are you thinking of doing a daily word? Or just a random dictionary word each time you refresh?

jmpavlec··on Show HN: A browser-based tone generator built with the Web Audio API
Works great, thanks for sharing. I had fun just playing around with it. Very responsive on my phone.
jmpavlec··on Show HN: Kexa.io – Open-Source IT Security and Compliance Verification
FYI seems like multiple typos in the GitHub description that shows at the top (not in the readme)

Quoting it here:

> Kexa's simple rules (Open Source) make it easy to monitoring and manage alerting of your entire cloud. With various monitoring and alerting options, instant and detailed alerts, easy-to-deploy and low in infrastructure costs, in turns complexity into simplicity.

jmpavlec··on Migrating away from Rust
Definitely not cheap, but I assume developer cost and migrating to unreal is probably not cheap either. I'm not too familiar with either engine, are they similar enough that it's "cheaper" to migrate? I imagine that sets back release dates as well.

Such a crappy thing for a company to do.

jmpavlec··on Things I learned about software and startups by playing video games
Great read, especially liked the call-out of the Smash Bros aMSa video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2WMBwFO65J4&t=11s and Baba is You.
jmpavlec··on Show HN: JuryNow – Get an anonymous instant verdict from 12 real people
Similar experience on Chrome (Android). Just sits there after making a choice. Is it overloaded?
jmpavlec··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (February 2025)
Still working on https://gametje.com which is an alternative to Jackbox games. Currently have 5 available games (with a 6th behind signup + opt-in alpha tester flag). It's free to try as a guest for a few days before an account is necessary. Playable in 9 languages and hostable/playable from any device with a web browser. Most games offer the ability to play against an AI player to try it out before trying to convince your friends.

Currently working on setting up a blog with some dev details about the newest game. Also working with a UI/UX designer to make it look and flow a bit better.

jmpavlec··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (February 2025)
Tried it out on mobile and thought the site had broken the back button. Turned out to just be a history entry for every click/drag (which grows quite quickly). I found that quite off-putting but maybe that's a bit like an "undo" in this context...?

Either way, I didn't appreciate the 100+ entries in my history.

jmpavlec··on Launch HN: A0.dev (YC W25) – React Native App Generator
I had the same experience, hitting back a couple times and refreshing the page allowed me to continue... But I imagine this would be a steep dropoff in engagement if you aren't taken back to the same page.
jmpavlec··on Show HN: Matle – A Daily Chess Puzzle Inspired by Wordle
Loved it! I'm so so at chess but was able to get it in 3 tries. Nice execution with the UI.
jmpavlec··on Ask HN: Who wants to be hired? (February 2025)
Just tried clicking your website link (from the Netherlands) and Cloudflare blocked me. Not sure if you have any additional security set up but thought you should know.
jmpavlec··on Show HN: I built Skyhunt – A VPN-powered tool to find cheap flights globally
Seems to be missing quite a few airports. Tried to look at flights from Amsterdam to Washington DC area and it couldn't find Dulles or Baltimore. Where is the list coming from?
jmpavlec··on Show HN: An innovative flag-guessing game that identify regions by fragments
I had fun with it. Got 6 in a row before moving on. I needed to use Google Maps to help me with the directional references. Might be nice to have it sync on a map with guesses and show the path as the user zooms in on the solution. Would be fun to see it afterwards as well, perhaps showing the flags of the countries you guessed along the way.

I was playing from my phone and typing the country and hitting the send button did not work, it forces you to tap in the drop-down. I'd maybe have it submit if there is an exact match or at least provide a message to select from the drop-down. My onscreen keyboard was blocking the drop-down originally.

jmpavlec··on Forgejo: A self-hosted lightweight software forge
The tag line isn't the most informative. It took me a scroll or two on the main page to figure out its purpose. (Self hosted GitHub alternative). I'd suggest making that clearer earlier as the word "forge" in terms of software could have a variety of interpretations.
