jmcantrell··on Coding Isn't Programming
I'm curious about the part where LL is talking about how to prove the 3 parts of the max() example's invariant (around 31:46) and omits #2. Did you all understand why this condition holds or are you now scared of AI replacing you, like me?

It's totally understandable if you don't want to answer this, but how did you know you had a problem? How did it fuck your life up?
jmcantrell··on Ask HN: Comment here about whatever you're passionate about at the moment
Hello.

I appreciate this gesture, and also feel nostalgic for the primordial internet. I try to hold on to what felt magical about it to me in the early days.

One of the remaining things left in my life that I feel passionate about is technology and programming. I've had a difficult time dealing with depression and that has cost me my career, but the one thing that keeps me going is learning new stuff and working toward mastery of my craft.

I hope you have a great day, as well :)

Thanks, this worked for me, too. I wonder why the command used in the article is so different.
jmcantrell··on The Future of the Web Is on the Edge
The curl command mentioned in the article that's supposed to show the region being used for a request `curl -ls https://deno.land` doesn't seem to work as described. Does anyone know if this is a typo?

This really rubbed me the wrong way. It feels like they're taking advantage of my generosity.

Arghh. That CodeEval problem is driving me nuts! I'm happily employed, but I love a good challenge. Is there any way you can send me more example input? CodeEval keeps coming back as a failure, but my output matches the challenge description.

jmcantrell··on Warning: RoR is slow
To be honest, it sounds like RoR or ActiveRecord is doing something wrong.
jmcantrell··on Warning: RoR is slow
Ruby and RoR, slow? This is a no-brainer. Ruby is slow as molasses and RoR is built upon Ruby. Hmmmmm....

jmcantrell··on What Linux laptops do you use for development?
if you're using nvidia like me, then it's as simple as adding a couple of lines to your xorg congfig
jmcantrell··on What Linux laptops do you use for development?
I would have to agree. I can deal with a laptop in a pinch, but it slows me down considerably.
jmcantrell··on What Linux laptops do you use for development?
I've never heard anyone refer to BSD/Solaris/OSX as Linux
jmcantrell··on Who's new to news.yc? Say hello here
Howdy. My name is Jeremy, and I'm a software developer for a startup in Charlotte, NC. My company uses the .NET platform, but, personally, I'm a python guy.

jmcantrell··on What Linux laptops do you use for development?
then why did you even respond? the question was "what Linux laptops do you use for development?", not "how many of you are mac fanboys?"

Fantastic essay. Now I'm all pumped up. As soon as I find a colleague that I want to share an office with, I'll be submitting an application :)
