jlv2··on A Tandy / RadioShack TRS-80 Model 1 Clone
I'm also have a similar background (although the first computer I used was my school's PDP-8i via a teletype). I still have my Model I and all the assorted accessories. I remember moving from EDTASM to Microsoft's Macro Assembler for the Z-80 assembler I write.
jlv2··on First Node.js-Based Ransomware: Nodera
"The sample received in our lab was vbs script which has multiple embedded js scripts. On execution, it creates a directory “GFp0JAk” at location “%userprofile%\AppData\Local\”."

Why is this even possible?

jlv2··on City Roads – Draw all roads in a city at once
In my case, I noticed many driveways were rendered when I did my town.
jlv2··on Show HN: Tired of mobile games with IAP and ads, I made No-Bullshit Games
Really nice idea! I added a few.

But one that I added didn't make it to the list and I don't know why: Spaceteam https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sleepingbe...

It has no ads. The IAP it has seems to fit your definition of acceptable: it's only cosmetic and goes to support the developer.

So my suggestion would be this: include another list of rejected games, which some reason why they didn't meet the criteria for the No-BS list.

jlv2··on Rush Drummer Neil Peart Dead at 67
He was amazing.

This video is a favorite of his playing. He breaks a stick and replaces it without losing a beat. It's hard to notice!

jlv2··on The Joys of Unix Keyboards
For my first 15 years of using UNIX on PC keyboards, I had to use xmodmap to remap the ~` key back to the correction location the right side of the keyboard... and move ESC to the key labeled ~`. Similarly with swapping Control/CapsLock. I finally gave it up nearly 15 years ago in an attempt to simplify my setup on new systems.
jlv2··on Boeing Starliner updates: Spacecraft flies into wrong orbit, jeopardizing test
People keep making that "joke" thinking it's funny.
jlv2··on Show HN: Ordinary Puzzles – An open-source mobile puzzle game
Consider building it as another puzzle in this collection, rather than a separate app. https://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/puzzles/
jlv2··on Undocumented Catalina file access change
I don't. But I like the statement.
jlv2··on If this project is dead, just tell us
Not dead yet.
jlv2··on 0.30000000000000004
Long, long ago. 3com.com wanted to exist.
jlv2··on Tesla Cybertruck vs. a Ford F-150: It's All About Friction
In the video you can clearly see just the rear wheels spinning on the F-150; e.g., it was RWD.
jlv2··on How to Hide a Billion Dollars
Maybe you mean "all non-Native American land-owners in America". I'm not sure why you single out white.
jlv2··on A Mystery of Unix History
Back then I wouldn't use a DEC terminal newer than a VT-100 because of the lack of an ESC key. The 220s were physically great terminals, but the keyboard layout was horrific for using vi.

Around 84 we started evaluating a purchase of hundreds of terminals for the university, and eventually settled on the Wyse WY-75, mostly because it was ANSI/VT-100 compatible and had an escape key.

DEC didn't care, because they didn't use the ESC key in VMS.

jlv2··on Fraudulent tech-support sites cause Firefox to freeze, displaying scary message
LOL. I created a similar page lock up back in 1996 using the first Netscape with JavaScript. Back then no one took that seriously.

"JavaScript exploits continue to plague all browsers" was something I wrote in 2002. Will it ever get better?

jlv2··on I tried to adjust the time on my alarm clock
Or the engineer that designed it.
jlv2··on Ask HN: What is the most beautiful piece of code you've ever read?
Found a copy: https://github.com/v7unix/v7unix/blob/master/v7/bin/true
jlv2··on Ask HN: What is the most beautiful piece of code you've ever read?
/bin/true on a v7 UNIX system. A zero byte file with the execute bit set.
jlv2··on Bill Gates on Windows Usability (2003)
That's actually not the last line!

It's only the last in the screen shot posted to twitter. The PDF contains more of the email, and it gets worse (if you can believe that).

jlv2··on A Scheduler for the Internet
Because many decades of stability based upon simplicity are not good enough for today's world.
jlv2··on Show HN: StartupGIFs – A repo of GIFs for every situation
Are all these licensed images?
jlv2··on Our Brains Are Not Multi-Threaded
> In a world before multi-core processors, these threads weren’t actually running simultaneously, as the underlying processor could only execute one instruction at a time.

This is not true. Before multi-core processors there were many computers with multiple CPUs.

jlv2··on Simplicity Made Easy
Perl 6 has been coming for almost 2 decades. Whole other language ecosystems have risen and fallen in that time.
jlv2··on Screenshots from developers and Unix people taken in 2002 (2015)
Jon Hall's desktop shows exmh running. I did a bunch of work on that long ago (90s). His two screenshots highlight two of my contributions (both of which live on today).

I wrote the folder display in the upper pane (I'm really proud of this result).

I also worked on the abomination of a 'pick' interface.

jlv2··on PigeonTransit's Misleading Privacy Claims
I'm not so sure that a click on "Who Created Pigeon" and then a click on "Area 120" counts as "dig pretty deep".
