jlpom··on Show HN: Convert any screenshot into clean HTML code using GPT Vision (OSS tool)
I don’t see the point; if you want to copy an existing website, why not use Httrack? The website would always be more similar and you save on GPT’s API. Where this technique shine is for sketch to website.
jlpom··on Improving deep sleep may prevent dementia, study finds
It does not worsen night sleep, this is a misconception. It is better than nothing but often not as good as regular sleep since you often does not goes through a full cycle.

Transflecrive are the best of both worlds. I don’t get why there aren’t that much interest in them?
jlpom··on The Power of Prolog
I’ve learned it for a predicate logic (satisfying logic requirements) course in 2019 during a Bsc
jlpom··on The Power of Prolog
I’ve had the same idea to improve reasoning of LLM. Glad you made it.

jlpom··on Launch HN: Stellar Sleep (YC S23) – An app that helps people with insomnia
I have the same issue after an acute long term sleep deprivation (slept 9 hours in 3 days with nearly no REM) 8 months ago. It turns out it damaged my thalamus (which is responsible for the wake-sleep alternance). Nothing can be done (at least currently) which is quite depressing, so I cope by taking long acting benzos which allow me to sleep 5-6 hours. From my research it also entice decreased ability to create « sleep spindle », if your sleep is also not qualitative and you’re not stressed, this may be an indication this is the same cause and you may want to see a neurologist.
jlpom··on Why doctors hate their computers (2018)
I know a company who does that using speech recognition (Nabla), but no physicians I have met had a scribe, only observing / learning residents (« internes » here). Outside of consultations my dad records itself and sends it to its secretary.

On a side note I wish there was a way to communicate with (good) physicians asynchronously (via text for exemple) for non trivial issues, or something that allows them the time to research and think about an issue, which you don’t have the time during a consultation, without waiting months before the next appointment. Some try to get up to knowledge and read in front of me but, it doesn’t takes them more than 1 mn so they often have a shallow understanding. I’ve also met terrible ones who where annoyed that I knew more about the subject than they did and discouraged me from doing my own research (even from cochrane and serious meta-analysis), but I guess it is more a problem of the hubris of some french doctors than a process one (accordingly most of my issues stems from the fact that it is difficult to reliability avoid ignorants, that doesn’t care, or arrogant physicians that I could book, more than any other issues including software).

jlpom··on More green spaces linked to slower biological aging
Maybe also the higher OM-3 intake offset the effects of the mercury.

jlpom··on Why I Left Rust
I don’t get the relation between structure and emotions.
jlpom··on Firefox displayed a pop-up ad for Mozilla VPN over an unrelated page
Money pays devs, not market share. It's obvious in a small market with few competitors (my company pays 10k € /yr for a simulation software seldomly used), but it's still true imo in a large market with many. Competitors that uses tracking and have more users, will often have more money for dev and advertisement, and there is the risk that webdevs won't care for the browser (already happening), but it still can work, even more if it noticabely better or pertains to uses cases not covered by others.

jlpom··on A New Theory for the Assembly of Life in the Universe
There is good hint that the universe is infinite (flat universe) and the main interpretation of quantum mechanics refutes local determinism.

Robotic space exploration, like our rover that crashed on Mars not a long ago?
jlpom··on Wearing an eye mask during sleep improves episodic learning and alertness
No, the pressure is very light for me, and not sleeping will always carry more risks.
jlpom··on If we lose the Internet Archive, we’re screwed
> Internet Archive was the ONLY place where I could enjoy a completely random piece of lost media from a children's television show called Alice's Adventures in Wonderland

Same for me with Le roi et l'oiseau and Peter and the Wolf by Disney.

jlpom··on Healing the brain: hydrogels enable neuronal tissue growth
Spine: intrathecal or systemic via AAV9 (eg. Zolgensma) injection ; Eye: don't know
jlpom··on Healing the brain: hydrogels enable neuronal tissue growth
This is cool but I don't see neural stem cells grafting and this hydrogel have clinical applications in humans, because the brain is very difficult to access, even via the CSF (diffusion is very limited), without very invasive way like trepanation.

I think a more realistic clinical approach is astrocytes to neurons reprogramming using vectors like AAV9 to pass the blood brain barrier and activate genes to convert them [1] to different types based on the genes (NGN2: glutamatergic, ASCL1: GABAergic, dopaminergic, cholinergic...). This has the added benefit of reduced cancer risk (direct reprogramming) and astrocytes have a regional identity [2].

jlpom··on On Device Learning
> that goes against the ‘selfish gene’ theory

On the contrary, it confirms it, it means some individuals for the overall replication success of the genes they are constituted of, will sacrifice themselves.

In the book from which this theory have been popularised, the exemple of bees stinging like kamikazes is given.

jlpom··on Ask HN: What game do you wish existed?
An educational platform game where you can draw platforms by plotting the graphical representation of functions.
jlpom··on Your computer is a distributed system
For CRIU it is not supported: https://criu.org/Integration#Wayland.2FWeston, also in my experience it doesn't work. Are you talking about an other software?
jlpom··on Your computer is a distributed system
This describe more a Single System Image [0] to me (WPD includes Plan 9 as one but considering it does not does not supports process migration I find it moot). LinuxPMI [1] seems to be a good idea but they seems to be based on Linux 2.6, so you would have to heavily patch newer kernel. The only thing that seems to support process migration with current software / still active are CRIU [2] (which doesn't support graphical/wayland programs) and DragonflyBSD [3] (in their own words very basic).
