I am SO excited to share early access with everyone on Hacker News today. Everyone who signs up at diallapp.com in the next 24 hours will get an invite. I can't wait to hear what you think.

Diall got its start in 2020... Right after the death of Ahmaud Arbury, my close friend, Marcel, called me. He voiced that as a black queer man, he didn’t feel safe going on his nightly runs and didn’t know where to turn to improve his mental health.

75% of mental health problems begin before the age of 24 and ALL of us are human beings with stressful lives.

So we started Diall, as just two friends that felt called to action to make mental health education more inclusive, actually fun, diverse and approachable.

We hacked together an MVP and built the first platform that takes over the core mental health education experience.

Diall reimagines mental health education for the modern age and makes it something all of us can look forward to – we make this happen by translating the science of mental health into short-form digital content.

We're just getting started on our mission building the most powerful user experience and expanding to more platforms. We've been iterating with early users daily and shipping features weekly. I'm super excited for you to try it!

AMA! I'm around :)

jksalita··on I made a free mental health app after quitting my job/moving across the world
9 months ago one of my closest friends called me with the fear that he wouldn’t be alive to see the end of the year. We had tough conversations, embraced vulnerability and took action together. Since that day, we have managed to go from phone call to mock-ups, from prototypes to business plans, from safety to access, from paid to free, and ALL while not only building a company that is set to make a lasting impact on the world around us, but also a greater appreciation for the power of what a simple phone call as friends can lead to. Flash forward to now and we are ready to share the exciting news!! The Diall App BETA launch officially starts today and I couldn't be more excited! Check it out and give us your feedback!
jksalita··on You can get specialized crisis support in less time than it takes to call 911
Unlike calling 911 — which requires direct interaction with police and can take up to over half an hour — Diall's application removes emergency dispatchers and replaces them with mental health professionals.

The home screen of the application operates like a speed dial, where each button on the keypad connects directly to a free 24/7 hotline across nine areas of support, including suicide prevention, eating disorders, and BIPOC focused aid.

In addition to the keypad, users will have access to a community feature resembling social media, but without the toxicity, as well as a resources feature, where users can educate themselves on mental health and wellness with curated articles and videos. The startup offers its partners the ability to pay for a designated profile where they can post resources, curate information, interact with users and help provide diverse and inclusive spaces for people to seek help.

Aside from the keypad, the application is entirely anonymous. The app is entirely free for users.
