jkrubin··on Uv is fantastic, but its package management UX is a mess
it still blows EVERYTHING that came before it out of the water.
jkrubin··on Show HN: Picknplace.js, an alternative to drag-and-drop
This is fantastic. It didn’t work for me at first bc i dragged assuming it was dnd, but then would say that is “user error”
jkrubin··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (October 2025)
Oh Hi! Very cool. Looks very similar to my project's reqwest wrapper. maybe we should team up!?

jkrubin··on Lambda Calculus in 383 Bytes (2022)
Anytime i see a Justine post it’s a banger — i had not read this one.
jkrubin··on Conda: A package management disaster?
All thoughts and opinions about conda aside, it’s the only sane way (on several platforms) to install gdalbins + gdal-python-bindings.

I don’t mind conda. It has a lot of caveats and weird quirks

jkrubin··on Conda: A package management disaster?
Ditto. It’s wild.
jkrubin··on Skia Canvas: Browser-Less Implementation of the HTML Canvas Drawing API for Node
Anyone know what the difference between this and `@napi-rs/canvas` is?

They seem similar?

jkrubin··on OpenStreetMap's New Vector Tiles
I saw some morecantile/mercantile in the article, so I will plug a side project of mine “utiles” for anyone needing tile util(e)s: https://github.com/jessekrubin/utiles

Was fun to write and I learned loads!

jkrubin··on Show HN: Wat – Deep inspection of Python objects
I wrote this a long while ago: https://pypi.org/project/funkify/
jkrubin··on JetBrains releases RustRover IDE for Rust development
True, but I don’t have the time or energy anymore to spend time configuring it. Jetbrains vim plugin is largely pretty good.
jkrubin··on Pure CSS Website
awesome. the single div was a performance bottleneck for me.
jkrubin··on Show HN: GritQL, a Rust CLI for rewriting source code
This really and truly looks fantastic.
jkrubin··on ChatGPT Is Funnier Than You
I don’t think that will happen. You can fake almost anything, but you can’t fake funny.
jkrubin··on Unexpected responses from ChatGPT: Incident Report
I thought I was the only one! I have been using “ChadGPT” for months (he’s a douche-y frat bro who goes off on tangents about “how lit that party was”). His best friend and fellow frat bro is Dale, a photography major.
jkrubin··on A bird's eye view of Polars
I have written several rust/python apis now and I think what you’re feeling is the result of the api being designed for Python as well as being primarily tested in Python.

No matter the target, I test rust things using python. idk. Food for thought.

jkrubin··on SQL for data scientists in 100 queries
I totally agree but some of these are tsql which is less than easy to read imo.
jkrubin··on Doorway effect
I had a relevant comment while reading through the Wikipedia article, but I forgot it as soon as I opened up the comments.
jkrubin··on SQL for data scientists in 100 queries
Conversely, it’s very helpful at dissecting a 3k line insanity query and explaining it.
jkrubin··on FAA Aviation Maps
9 months ago I wrote a data pipeline to clip the ttp maps to their “neet line”. Pretty fun project. This was so our mapping software would allow users to toggle visibility of different legends or change the opacity of different legends.
jkrubin··on Rclone syncs your files to cloud storage
I have used rclone for several years now and it works so good. I use it in place of rsync often too. It’s great for file moving on local file systems too.
jkrubin··on Zed, a collaborative code editor, is now open source
Hahahaha. A dev I work with who has been using eMacs for 30+ years is well known at my company for having eMacs sessions open for 6+ months at a time.
jkrubin··on 4B If Statements
Theoretically only one 40gb file would be needed. AFAICT almost every odd number is not even (I cannot say "all" bc I have not checked every integer yet).
jkrubin··on GitHub is investigating an incident with Pull Requests, Issues and Webhooks
Please create a PAT to enable your screwdriver.
jkrubin··on $20k bounty was claimed
100% I also personally believe you should pick a formatter and NOT configure it. I don’t care anymore about style. Just want formatting to be consistent.
jkrubin··on Confusing Git Terminology

jkrubin··on A Philosophy of Software Design
Bats are single celled?
jkrubin··on Protomaps – A free and open source map of the world
Worth mentioning this project (https://github.com/onthegomap/planetiler) that lets you create osm mbtiles and pmtiles pretty easy!
jkrubin··on jq 1.7
Chad is super helpful with jq!
jkrubin··on Show HN: uDSV.js – A faster CSV parser
Idk uplot, but I use ufuzzy!
jkrubin··on Show HN: uDSV.js – A faster CSV parser
Was wondering where I had seen this person before… he wrote ufuzzy, which is pretty dope imo!
