jklm··on Roger McNamee: “Facebook Is Terrible for America”
One way to alleviate that is to defriend or unfollow (hide from news feed) those people who are engaging in one-upmanship, if you're not interested in that. If you want to only passively see what people are up to, this is a good way to do that without being audience to virtue-signalling.

I've found that this is a good habit to work on for in-person relationships as well. Curate your company!

jklm··on It is perfectly OK to only code at work, you can have a life too
What happened out of curiosity? Asking as someone who’s been doing this for ~20 years.

Aren't you in bucket 1 here? :)
jklm··on Career advice I wish I’d been given when I was young
I'd say this depends on the environment and the audience. My younger self took many years to realize that wearing too many button-down shirts isn't always a good thing.
jklm··on Eric Schmidt Steps Down from Alphabet’s Board of Directors
It wasn't the whole valley, it was specifically Adobe, Apple, Google, and Intel. Absent were Facebook, Amazon, Netflix, and Microsoft.
jklm··on Indie Game Removed from Switch After Dev Reveals It Has a Hidden Code Editor
It is understandable and doesn't "effect" my comprehension, but that doesn't mean that the net "affect" is equivalent or desirable. :)

I'm not sure I buy that argument - according to the article it's a 20/80 split between "take the reigns"/"take the reins" with about the same number of samples. In that case, "take the reigns" seems egregiously wrong, and I question either the statistics or the sampled population.

Very off-topic, but I've seen this twice this week already: it's free rein (as in horses), not free reign [1].

jklm··on Tesla Model 3 vs. BMW M3 [video]
What else was expensive to maintain, and why? Was this on a new M3?
jklm··on Why Good Developers Are Promoted into Unhappiness (2007)
There are a couple ways you can look at this situation:

- There generally isn’t an ‘optimal’ solution, but there are a lot of solutions with tradeoffs.

- Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses, and gravitate towards different molds.

- People aren’t born perfect, but what they can do is grow. How can you help them do that?

That’s interesting, IIRC short lines are supposed to increase readability because longer ones are harder to mentally wrap.
jklm··on Income-sharing agreements let students trade future earnings for investment
It's a financial instrument, so it'll probably be bought and sold at some point. Some investors will want to increase their risk, and others will want to decrease it.
jklm··on Income-sharing agreements let students trade future earnings for investment
I think the parent poster might have meant sharecropping. But the point is still valid.
