jjudge··on X/Twitter will begin charging new users $1 a year to access key features
~$0.67 cents without negotiated processing fees (ex: Stripe's rack rate is 2.9% processing fee + 30 cents per transaction)
jjudge··on The Sad Bastard Cookbook
My wife and one of my daughters have a gluten allergy (celiac) — would love to see your GF pizza crust recipe that you’ve perfected, if possible.
jjudge··on Withings acquired by Nokia
I use their wifi scale every day and see no issue with this - it's a good chance for Withings to move faster, and for Nokia to become more relevant
jjudge··on Chicago Police Hid Mics, Destroyed Dashcams to Block Audio, Records Show
> Are there certain neighborhoods that should be avoided on the basis of corrupt police activity?

No. It's largely a very safe city and a great place to live in. I've lived here for 16 years (2 in Lakeview, 1 in Uptown, 3 in the West Loop and 10 in Lincoln Square). If I can help answer any questions about the various neighborhoods, you can reach me via jeff@judge.io.

jjudge··on Parkinson's patients 'walk and talk again' after receiving cancer drug in trial
This was covered on NPR's Morning Edition too http://www.npr.org/sections/health-shots/2015/10/17/44832391...
jjudge··on Twitter Needs New Leadership
Per Facebook as of March 2015, 936M people use the service every day, 798M using their phone. I love Twitter too, but with 13% of the world using it every day, it's no ghost town.
jjudge··on Show HN: Stressed and burned out, so I created my first app – Remember Win
Nice app - I just downloaded it and added a few wins this year. Looking forward to using it.
jjudge··on RethinkDB 1.12: simplified map/reduce, ARM port, new caching infrastructure
Wow, that must have felt good to wrap up.
jjudge··on How Not To Sell Software in 2012
Yes, but their pricing is published and you can easily sign up online.
jjudge··on Show HN: Proby - Task monitoring made simple
Ha :) They actually work from home four days a week, so he'd have to get in his car and drive to his house to do that.
jjudge··on Why I quit my cushy corporate job to join a startup
Good luck! If you don't like where you land - it'll be ridiculously easy to find somewhere you will.
jjudge··on What could you do with $41 Million?
Love this quote:

"I think, at the end of the year, if you picked your team right, you'd have a pretty good shot at a profitable business. And if it fails? Well, good news, you can do it all over again. 40 times. And still have $5 million left"

As someone who has bootstrapped a company to profitability, you're definitely right about people the most important ingredient.

I think Color definitely took a lot of money, but the goal is to get the app installed on every phone possible - and that will take a lot of advertising money.

jjudge··on Who is living off their startup fulltime?
Congratulations guys
jjudge··on Who is living off their startup fulltime?
Thanks - yep, design was done in-house by our design/UX director (http://www.signalhq.com/about-us/team/drew-myler). We're now focused on cleaning up our message so that you immediately know what the product does when hit the home page. I think a few walk through videos will be helpful, it's a great product.
jjudge··on Who is living off their startup fulltime?
Signal (http://www.signalhq.com) supports 13 including myself, co-founded in 2006. First few years as a founder we're incredibly tough (paid others but not ourselves), but we're doing great now.
jjudge··on Clicking Facebook "Like" Buttons Gives Owner Permission To Spam You (w/ demo)
I also didn't expect this but it doesn't really bother me either. It seems pretty logical to me - if I like something I'd like to have access to more of it.
jjudge··on Ask HN: What accounting appz do you use?
xero.com
jjudge··on Excelerate - YC-like program in Chicago, Summer '10
> It's a nice change from the first part of this decade, when it was 37 Signals and then... nobody.

Not true: Orbitz, Feedburner, TicketsNow, many others

jjudge··on Standup Timer Android App
We've been using this for a few weeks now and it's been really helpful
jjudge··on Google Apps: A Long Road Ahead
I think Google is going to get behind Apps in a big way - it's just natural progression for them. We've been using it for three years and absolutely love it. I don't understand why people think using Google Apps and Microsoft products are mutually exclusive - I still write contracts w/Word and use Excel for forecasting.
jjudge··on Ask HN: Would you pay $5/yr for HN?
No, I wouldn't pay for it. Shouldn't the trolling issue naturally work it self out over time? If anonymous users are the issue perhaps add some additional validation of identities?
jjudge··on Questions for Co-Founders (Gabor Cselle)
The difference is that founder is singular, where co-founder is plural. I am a co-founder of a company because I co-founded it with another person. In my mind it has nothing to do with who's done what.
jjudge··on Not My Gorilla
jamis has the right to support whatever he wants, it's his project that he designed for his purposes. if windows developers need to tweak for windows, they should fork capistrano. i guess jamis is saying, fork you! (ha)
