jjude··on Ask HN: What tech stack would you choose for a serious, long-term business app
1. Tech stack has to be decided based on functional requirements (real-time chat, less-write but read-intensive etc) and non-functional requirements (concurrent connections to support, regulatory compliance requirements etc).

2. Any serious business system (not just one app) will have multiple tech stack.

3. In the long term tech stack has to change depending on the changing business needs.

Assuming a whole lot about above 3 points, choice could be postgres, python, react, aws. Purely because they are battle tested. Any discussions about their merits are moot without knowing requirements.

jjude··on Ask HN: What's the best technical talk you've heard?
What Does Tech Excellence Look Like? by Martin Fowler [1]. He talks about process, how to organize teams to deliver tech products. Amazing talk.

jjude··on A Year of Developer Journals with jrnl.sh
Similar to what is described, I keep a note of all errors I get while developing. I started this practice after realizing how often I search for the same error. Keeping a log of the errors and how I solved it saves me so much of time. I blogged about it here: https://jjude.com/flask-errors/

Taking notes also makes me to conduct a thoughtful retro of what I have done.

jjude··on Don't Take Security Advice from SEO Experts or Psychics
Whatever Troy says is true. But for bloggers, please know this. The RSS 2.0 spec specifies that the feed url must be http url (and not https). So if you want your feed url should validate (which is a requirement for certain aggregators like AllTop), then it has to be http.

I wrote my experience of moving my blog to https about it here: https://jjude.com/cost-of-https/

jjude··on Machine Learning in JavaScript
This is a good collection of resources (both code and concepts). Thanks for sharing.
jjude··on Ask HN: Do you market your side project?
If the project is complete, then rev share. If they have good track record then don't mind equity.

Ex: I have a self-published book https://hapibook.jjude.com. The book is complete. I'm creating videos. In this case, I don't mind sharing revenue.

jjude··on Ask HN: Favorite note taking/wiki software?
I have been using nvAlt[1] for the past 3-4 years. It is well designed and it is easy to use. All the notes are in text format and can be synced via dropbox (so you can pick up these notes in mobile).

I use Evernote[2] to store notes with images.

jjude··on Who are your developer heroes?
Guido of python, primarily for this insight: code is read much more often than it is written. This has improved my coding lot more.
jjude··on Ask HN: Building a side project that makes money. Where to start?
Start to teach. Create a course in udemy on what you know (data processing or management). If creating a video course overwhelms you, create a text based course. I'm using softcover to do that. You can check here: https://www.jjude.com/softcover-in-docker/

Creating a course can get you the momentum. You can start there and branch out to other things.

jjude··on Ask HN: What are some good technology blogs to follow?
These are the three technology sites I visit (almost) daily:

1. https://dev.to/ 2. http://highscalability.com/ 3. https://www.oreilly.com/ideas

jjude··on Ask HN: Share your personal website
Mine is https://jjude.com. I keep design to minimal level.
jjude··on How Do You Know a Developer Is Doing a Good Job?
Can you say how this is related? I am trying to get into remote development (after 20 years of software experience).

How are the other two points mentioned earlier related to remote working? I am curious.

jjude··on Ask HN: What are your greatest books?
"7 habits" by Steven Covey. Read it 20 years back. Amazed how it is still useful.
jjude··on Ask HN: Is there any other cheap/free analytics tool other than Googles?
If you are ok to host it yourself, then you can use Piwik [1]. I use Clicky[2] and I'm satisfied with it. The dashboards are better in Clicky.

I use Tweetbot on ios and I don't see promoted tweets
jjude··on Ask H: Django vs. Node.js for web app development?
Always code in the language that you and your team knows. But if you have specific reasons to move away, then consider these points:

* django comes with an admin app which is a huge time saver.

* if your app is like CMS (or related), then django is the best way to go

* if the same team is going to manage the front-end (in some JS framework like angular), then probably you should choose nodejs. Within nodejs, hapijs is a secure framework for API development

jjude··on Why Angular 2 Switched to TypeScript
You can install typings (npm install -g typings) and then search for type definitions. For hapijs, it would be `typings search hapi`. Then you can install using `typings install dt~hapi --global --save`.
jjude··on Apple fans are coming to hate Apple software
I thought the licence terms disallowed running OSX running on anything other than Mac. Of course, I always clicked 'Agree' without reading the licence terms.

I have been thinking of something opposite: run ubuntu on Mac.

jjude··on Some OS X Applications Vulnerable to MITM Attacks
These are vulnerable apps: - colorschemer - snippets - colloquy - macdown - peppermint - skim - screenflow - vagrant manager - vlc - monodraw - yemuzip
jjude··on Ask HN: New Year's resolution – What projects are you planning to start in 2016?
Now that swift is open source, I believe we will see swift on the server too. With that thought, I started learning swift from mid-December. I am learning it with solving programming challenges. I also blog about them here[1]. My Q1 project is to learn swift in-depth with this approach.

[1]: http://tech.jjude.com/swift-challenges/

jjude··on Ask HN: What do you use to blog?
I use Olai[1] for my blogs — jjude.com & tech.jjude.com. Of course I would use it, since I developed it :-)

[1]: http://olai.in

jjude··on Ask HN: What is the easiest to use static site generator?
Checkout Olai, (http://olai.in), a hosted static site generator. Nothing to setup. Connect Amazon S3 or Github page and you are done. Bonus: Use your desktop blog editors, like MarsEdit.

Disclosure: Olai is my baby.

jjude··on Some thoughts after (almost) a year of real Xamarin use
What is your experience with Kivy? Have you submitted to AppStore? I'm evaluating between Kivy & Ionic. Hearing your experience will help.
jjude··on Show HN: I built an app that measures how fast web hosts really are
Is it possible to benchmark webfaction(https://www.webfaction.com)?
jjude··on Show HN: Ghostnote – Contextual notes and todo app
That message could be better. The app already opened the folder. So I didn't understand what to do. Should I have to open the folder in Finder? Or should I have to copy? The message could've just explained why the folder was opened and said, "Don't worry, just click ok" or something similar.
jjude··on Ask HN: What have you achieved in January 2015?
Launched[1] first product of our startup[2] on 30th. Working on to get it going. [1]: http://blog.dsdinfosec.com/a-great-day-for-dsdinfosec-launch... [2]: http://dsdinfosec.com
jjude··on Poll: What's Your Favorite IDE for JavaScript?
Been using VIM for all coding. Recently started using Adobe Brackets & I like it. I might switch to it.
jjude··on Draft Policy on Open APIs for Government of India [pdf]
You are underestimating what Indian Govt can do. Until recently (two months back), I was part of Ministry of Corporate Affairs, which completely eliminated paper for company registration. The implementation project started sometime in 2006 and was rolled out pan-India by 2008. Since 2009, no physical paper is used for registration; all are done electronically. Company registration in India now takes a week which used to take 3 months until 2006. It's a huge success. Similar thing is done for Passports too.
jjude··on Ask HN: Which hosting provider do you use and why?
I have been using webfaction[1] for the past 8 years. Happy with their fast customer service. They have one-click install for most of the apps you would need. If you are starting with web-hosting, check them out since getting started will be easy with them. [1]: https://www.webfaction.com/
jjude··on Show HN: Picnic.css, a lightweight Bootstrap alternative
I have been using Cardinal CSS [1], a mobile first framework on my site[2]. Minified version is only 15kb. It also has support for LESS.
