jipiboily··on Ask HN: Is Comcast having internet problems?
Getting a very similar issue with Bell Canada. So similar I'm wondering if they are Comcast customers themselves.
jipiboily··on Show HN: Someone.io – Task management for teams made easy
Exactly!
jipiboily··on Show HN: Someone.io – Task management for teams made easy
That, or even just have an actual way to start paying now, which would already help to survive or make it feel like it would survive.

When are you going to release it for real? Unclear, given that the pricing page says "Coming this summer"...is it possibly in 11.5 months? If you don't get payments, how can we know it will still exists in a few months?

Looks neat btw!

jipiboily··on [dead]
Yeah, so glad of using different passwords everywhere!
jipiboily··on Montreal cracks down on UberX; seizes 40 cars and fines drivers
Are you sure about this? I don't think it's true. I think actually only kids from English speaking parents can attend public English school. Not 100% sure though TBH.

This app could totally work with the taxi meters, not replacing them and the legal requirements. This is a non-issue to me. By innovation, I didn't think at all about pricing, just quality of service, being able to have service, ETA and easy payment.

Pretty similar to Quebec City. I used to always call and ask for a cab which takes credit card. The vast majority, like 95% of the time, they said the terminal was broken...I was like: "well, it's sad, I don't have cash, can we try?" and it ALWAYS WORKED. This is related though with the crazy fees they need to pay for credit cards, but it's stupid to play the game like that.

That's indeed the norm I think in most cities.

This is sad. I live in Quebec Province, but not in Montreal. Quebec's laws regarding taxis are old and stupid, but they exists. I hope they will change, but in the meantime, sadly, this is their right to execute those laws.

The population (including me) wouldn't be so angry at the taxi industry if they embraced innovation instead of fighting with laws. Please, I want an app to know when my cab will be here, I don't mind that much about saving money, but I do want to pay easily and have a great and easy ride. That's all I want.

FYI, the taxi owners need a licenses, which I think is over $100k, and none were issued in a long time, so price increases. So, if I had one, yes, I would be super angry seeing Uber and stuff like that.

Still makes me very sad that this industry stagnated for so long and is not even trying to adapt now, but getting more laws :(

Edit: fixed typo.

How is that related again? :)

"Apple patenting the patent" -> hahaha, that would be a great idea, coming from any major tech company hold thousands of patents :)
jipiboily··on Atom now using Io.js
It might be about a DOM node, not the Node project.
jipiboily··on How to Start a Startup, Lecture 7: How to Build Products Users Love, Part I
There's more than 3 companies, I can think of:

- Rainforest QA (for which I work for)

- Heroku

- Librato

- CircleCI

- Zappier

And there's probably a lot more than that.

What are the 3 companies you had in mind?

jipiboily··on How to Start a Startup, Lecture 7: How to Build Products Users Love, Part I
Yes, we have some remote employees. I am myself in Quebec province, Canada. We have people in Brazil and in different US states too.
jipiboily··on Show HN: Open-Source, Free, Agile Project Management Tool
This looks great at first.

We will see if the flow is useful to enough people and if it's worth paying vs other options available right now. Project management software is hard as there are so many different way of dealing with projects.

Also, I hope it works great on mobile or it's in the plan, otherwise it might be a deal breaker.

Also, I think I like the fact it's open source with a paid hosting if we want. Let's see how they deal with that on the long term.

jipiboily··on Using a Circle CI build server as an ad-hoc QA environment
I'm the author of this post, let me know if you have questions and/or comments! :)
jipiboily··on Ask HN: What are some Bay Area startups that don't use an open office plan?
Circle CI now have offices for everyone AFAIK.

Yeah, good point on the title! ;)

jipiboily··on Being a new dad while working at a startup
It can be like that in tech or any industry too though, you can get fired after being late, if you have a schedule.
jipiboily··on Being a new dad while working at a startup
This is so true. I didn't think it could be some fast. Some days she changes so much, it's impressive...new skills every now and then.
jipiboily··on Being a new dad while working at a startup
Hard for breast feeding though hehe
jipiboily··on Being a new dad while working at a startup
New bord are effectively different, and I had no idea either how to handle them until day 1 of Sara. I even never changed a diaper before that day!
jipiboily··on Being a new dad while working at a startup
Gladly, and congrats!!!
jipiboily··on Being a new dad while working at a startup
Oh yeah, I live in Quebec, things are a bit different, we can drink at 18, school is much, much cheaper too
jipiboily··on Being a new dad while working at a startup
I agree and not, it's easier for some people, and harder for other.

It is definitely harder for people with lower salaries who needs to have two jobs (I know some!).

It is also easier, at least here in Quebec, for people that works, as an example, for government. They have a lot of vacations, work less hours per week, flexible hours, sick days, etc.

I am glad I work @ Rainforest QA and to have so much flexibility, which makes it easier for me and my wife!

jipiboily··on Being a new dad while working at a startup
It was every 1.5 - 2 hours for a while and it is still that often, sometimes she sleeps 4+ hours (she did that 3 or 4 times now)...kinda crazy.

Good "luck"! Apparently the first 20 years are the worst...hehe ;)
