jimbokun··on AI coding agents generate more code, but not more software
Which is basically what this study is showing.
jimbokun··on AI coding agents generate more code, but not more software
Just have AI write requirements then another AI write specs based on the requirements then another AI write tests based on the specs and another AI write the implementation based on the tests then another AI write the PR based on the implementation then another AI approve the PR and another AI deploy approved PRs to production!

What could possibly go wrong?
jimbokun··on Living in the Weimar Era of Ruby
The take away is that good, innovative art inevitably leads to Nazis.
jimbokun··on Living in the Weimar Era of Ruby
Yes the job of the software engineering professional is now strictly non-functional requirements.

Cost, latency, security, auditing, monitoring, operating.

LLMs can handle the functional requirements of “give me this output for these inputs” very well.

jimbokun··on Living in the Weimar Era of Ruby
So your company is taking many 10s of code generated by proprietary software whose own creators tell us cannot be fully trusted, and putting it straight into production?

What could possibly go wrong?

jimbokun··on Secret of Orange Cats Revealed After 60-Year Search
We use both terms here. Ginger has become more popular recently, probably due to UK Internet influence over recent years.
jimbokun··on Secret of Orange Cats Revealed After 60-Year Search
Some of the earliest photos after the photograph was invented are of people’s cats.

It’s why I had to give up Reddit entirely.

Impossible to follow any topic without it devolving into political flame wars.

Get rid of the other 20%.
jimbokun··on Imposing Sanctions on the International Criminal Court
I think Kamala would have been a terrible President but immeasurably better than Trump. She wasn’t openly, brazenly corrupt and self dealing nor an authoritarian with little interest in actual governing or the good of the nation he leads.
jimbokun··on Imposing Sanctions on the International Criminal Court
They will agree Trump is an idiot but quickly change the conversation to how Democrats are Even Worse.
jimbokun··on Imposing Sanctions on the International Criminal Court
The Supreme Court doesn't seem too interested in letting the 22nd Amendment slide.

Even they have their limits.

jimbokun··on Imposing Sanctions on the International Criminal Court
He will try but even the Supreme Court has shown they are willing to place limits on his power, ruling against him in some cases. So I don't think he has a pathway to bypassing the 22nd Amendment.
jimbokun··on Imposing Sanctions on the International Criminal Court
A world in which official statements from the US State Department and a joke are indistinguishable.
jimbokun··on Imposing Sanctions on the International Criminal Court
Oh, we are well aware.

Pretty sure even a lot of the current President's voters are slowly coming to this same realization. I predict soon in casual conversation almost no one will have voted for this man.

jimbokun··on Our $445M Series D
Similarly, printing more of a nation's currency does not increase inflation.
jimbokun··on Our $445M Series D
Yes but is that likely?
jimbokun··on Our $445M Series D
At least you know what the time commitment is up front. Not true of every company.
jimbokun··on Cloudflare acquires Deno
At least open source gives them an opportunity for the community to find a way to support it going forward. But I suppose that's just table stakes these days.
jimbokun··on Why isn't the industry freaking out about DeepSeek 4.1 Flash?
I would imagine even LLMs would do a better job reviewing smaller PRs than very large ones.
jimbokun··on Why isn't the industry freaking out about DeepSeek 4.1 Flash?
Why the hell would you put 50k lines into a single PR?

I mean, why even pretend you’re going to “review” something that large? Just build everything on main.

jimbokun··on “Math 2.0” will need to value mathematical progress more holistically
Yes.

Tao points out that without the mechanism for disseminating the techniques used to construct the proof, the proof by itself is fairly useless. It’s not like the existence of the proof directly increases GDP or human health or flourishing in any direct way.

So what’s the value?

jimbokun··on “Math 2.0” will need to value mathematical progress more holistically
I will concede I should have said “net benefits”.
jimbokun··on Trump administration is suspending Microsoft from a green card program
Where is the 30% unemployment figure coming from?
jimbokun··on “Math 2.0” will need to value mathematical progress more holistically
I’m not saying AI is not capable.

I’m saying with our current economic and political systems it’s only a lever for making the world worse faster.

jimbokun··on “Math 2.0” will need to value mathematical progress more holistically
What’s the value?
jimbokun··on “Math 2.0” will need to value mathematical progress more holistically
They should not solve the math problems. It’s simply a net negative for the world.
jimbokun··on “Math 2.0” will need to value mathematical progress more holistically
AI is fucking shit up for humans without providing any benefits.

It’s causing unemployment but no real gains unless you have a lot of equity and can benefit from lower costs from fewer people working.
