Some have gone to jail for "hate speech" related to COVID-19 already. https://t.me/baliexpats/17656

Facebook works directly with oppressive central governments to implement censorship against their citizens.[1] Some might consider that getting screwed over.

Americans used to use unencrypted telephony every day because they expected the government to uphold constitutional guarantees. That day ended shortly after 9/11 and the passage of the Patriot Act, which I believe today is used against Patriots more than it is used on their behalf.

Be nice if Americans could make something this good again. Have you seen WhatsApp lately? It's a pure travesty.

Interested to read a blog post about that story if you decide to write about it. Woz tought us never to trust a computer. Trusting software seems equally risky. Approaching comms from this perspective leads one to assume the best place to hide, so to speak, is in the open—in plain sight.

jhabdas··on Types of propaganda, propaganda techniques, and propaganda strategies (2017)
Philosophy and sociology should be moved earlier in the curriculum. I gained much from studying Descartes and Bertrand Russell, and learning propositional logic. The school system did not teach me those things until after I graduated high school. Had those teachings come earlier I may not have been as susceptible to propaganda at such a young age as I was.

No offense taken and I see your point. My feeling generally is taxes should be easier, and not require a tool at all. So focusing on a niche could give this app an edge and ideally encourage more people to go out and live their lives and enjoy their money.

YouTube suffers from DCMA. Too often useful content is pulled off the platform. Better to use NewPipe and download the goods before they're gone forever.

Suggestion: Add support for Foreign Earned Income Exclusion. If the trend is remote work, focus on the remote workers who would prefer not to pay income taxes.

Here's a RN codebase you can adapt for an iOS native app. In fact, you could just pilfer some of the code and do Android, Web and iOS at the same time using Expo.[1]

jhabdas··on Stripe Canceled My Account Today
Thanks for your comment. What I find most interesting isn't that Stripe tried to cancel my account (now reopened) but from where they got the information to make such a baseless decision in the first place.

Regarding the "controlled substance" bit, Stripe actually says Kratom mimics known drugs which is false (nature doesn't mimic synthetics). I brought this obvious error up with Stripe in my Twitter DM and I'd bet dollars to donuts they don't have a say about it nor the power to change their own terms due to Capitalist US regulations working hard to keep Big Pharma's thumb on our noses.

jhabdas··on Stripe Canceled My Account Today
Stripe reactivated my account already. I'll do everything I can to help get this miracle herb into the hands of Americans. If it was actually dangerous the FDA wouldn't have faltered when they tried to schedule it a few years ago. It wasn't a sample size of one that saw through their charade. Unfortunately most of that info is being erased from Twitter as we speak.

Ignorance is bliss amirite?

Great. I look forward to proving the error, though I shouldn't have to.

> We don't want to go into specifics

This kind of language is very wishy-washy and leaves everything to the imagination. 9/10 times the issue is terrorism or CP. So which of the two was it? And why aren't you comfortable enough to share that reason with your prospective users?

> Kudos to you and the teams for the great job at managing this challenge (that never should have been created by Google in the first place)!!

You're suggesting the challenge was created by Google and that so and so managed to navigate it successfully by obeying Google.

But we don't even know what the issue was. And if the issue isn't available to the general public through transparency or something like an FOIA request what is really being celebrated is the power of a corporation to control free speech over a protocol intended to wrest control of free speech back into the hands of people in the first place.

Limiting access to information such that it cannot be independently verified is far more sinister and nefarious — not to mention consitutionally unsound — than the threat of the bad actor sharing the info in the first place.

In the wake of the temporary Parler shutdown all of us need to be paying close attention to how we receive information. These things cannot be left up to anecdotal stories which delve into little to no detail.

jhabdas··on Robinhood denies claims that it sold GameStop shares out from under its traders
I don't think anywhere in their terms did it say users are not allowed to trade outside the US. But that didn't stop RH from freezing $800 in my account for a year after making 103% in a day on $VXX and other ETNs during a trip to Mexico in 2017. I eventually got my money back. But it took me a year.
