jhabdas··on K8s on macOS with K3s, K3d and Rancher
Docker is used, correct, forgoing the need for a VM on the host OS. K3s is a certified Kubernetes distribution.
jhabdas··on Pantheon.io Wants to 10x Our Cost
TIL Lokl. Only ten stars yet but a nice concept for sure. Thanks for the knowledge drop John. If moving back to static is in the cards, I may take you up on your offer. Cheers.
jhabdas··on Pantheon.io Wants to 10x Our Cost
I'll check these out but I disagree visitor count should have much bearing on cost for a mostly presentational site. Pantheon took away the Redis object cache I installed on that site when they bumped it from $25 to $40—like planned obsolescence. I'd rather self-host with Plesk or on K8s before ever paying $50–100 for something I know I could probably run myself on a $5–10 VPS.[0]

jhabdas··on Pantheon.io Wants to 10x Our Cost
Thanks for the creative solve. The first iteration of this site was static and the issue there was CloudCannon not scaling for his gang history media gallery, which has grown to 15GB. Regardless I'll keep this in consideration as an escape hatch as Dec 1 is coming up quick and we were just notified by Pantheon.

jhabdas··on Chakra UI – Modular and accessible UI components for React apps
At that, sounds like Chakra is feature-complete with regard to time picking .
jhabdas··on textfiles.com
That fact may cause sites like archive.org to pass over some of the content. Ergo we need to make a P2P mirror of the content. A ZeroNet port seems about right for a site with hundreds of pages and close to 58K textfiles.

jhabdas··on A modern “Hello, World” program requires more than just code
There are some good threads (if we could call them that) on GH related to how LeftPad "broke the Internet" and the original stories about it from Kik are/were on Medium. Surfing through the related GH threads lead me to ZeroNet[1], which is fantastic P2P web alternative which works offline and updates in real-time. It also has a decentralized GitHub alternative which would mitigate situations like LeftPad.

jhabdas··on A modern “Hello, World” program requires more than just code
And that Hello World probably isn't isomorphic, which limits the ability of crawlers other than the most sophisticated to actually see the data. Want to make it crawlable? Add another 70,000+ dependencies.
jhabdas··on Menggunakan Cermin HTTPS Untuk Menghindari Suntikan Iklan Operator Seluler
Thanks for translating the title. I'm not aware of a translation to English. I can, however, attest to Telkomsel in Indonesia experiencing ad injections over HTTP as I've seen it while tethered to a Hotspot using their service.

"CRYPTOCURRENCIES SUPPORTED", says the page. I cannot wait to try this.
jhabdas··on Living without a SIM card
VPN services such as Mullvad (and I believe Nord as well) accept cash and crypto in exchange for their service. And both allow WireGuard, which is coming to the 5.6 Linux Kernel. Additionally, Mullvad has no referral model in place to attempt to track individuals via social graphs.

And then take it a step further with something building on matterbridge[1], which has libs to "bridge between mattermost, IRC, gitter, xmpp, slack, discord, telegram, rocketchat, steam, twitch, ssh-chat, zulip, whatsapp, keybase, matrix and more".

The misperception I feel many of us have - myself included - is basic privacy means nondisclosure. I don't personally trust Google, nor do I have a Google account. But if I were to have a Google account I'd rather share my data - whatever it was I chose to share, which should always be opt-in - with Google's nemesis (Huawei?) and let let them pay us to fight over it.

Best comment in the thread. Thanks for keeping it real, chief.

Correction. Your life is there.
jhabdas··on FLIF – Free Lossless Image Format
Browsers don't need the codecs anyway. They just need Wasm and a decoder. Clients can do the work[1] until the hardware supports the goods.

This is why you should be cautious working on open source when you're under an employment contract or in school. It may not be your code despite what seems fair.
