jgbuddy··on Self Driving Car Insurance
Because the operator is liable? Tesla as a company isn't driving the car, it's a ML model running on something like HW4 on bare metal in the car itself. Would that make the silicon die legally liable?
jgbuddy··on AGENTS.md outperforms skills in our agent evals
Am I missing something here?

Obviously directly including context in something like a system prompt will put it in context 100% of the time. You could just as easily take all of an agent's skills, feed it to the agent (in a system prompt, or similar) and it will follow the instructions more reliably.

However, at a certain point you have to use skills, because including it in the context every time is wasteful, or not possible. this is the same reason anthropic is doing advanced tool use ref: https://www.anthropic.com/engineering/advanced-tool-use, because there's not enough context to straight up include everything.

It's all a context / price trade off, obviously if you have the context budget just include what you can directly (in this case, compressing into a AGENTS.md)

unfortunate but true

Water consumption is not what the headlines lead you to believe- using water for cooling doesn't "consume" the water
jgbuddy··on Vargai/SDK – JSX for AI video, declarative programming language for Claude Code
It makes no sense to me to use something hierarchical like JSX for describing a time-series sequence like video
jgbuddy··on Amazon closing its Fresh and Go stores
The general force behind this is the expansion of sub-same-day delivery which they have been pushing hard for the last year. Amazon fresh was a more traditional model which didn't fit in well with amazon's strengths (fulfillment, automation) because they tried to enter a market they were directly competing with (in-person shopping) and charged users for delivery in addition to their existing membership.

It's a welcome change IMO, amazon groceries are super cheap online and now delivery is free. They have been removing the fresh name from products for a few months now and replacing with amazon grocery. Certainly less confusion for consumers, at least

jgbuddy··on Amazon closing its Fresh and Go stores
Yeah these are all going to be wrapped up into their same day delivery service. Amazon fresh was very expensive and required a fee on top of prime which unsurprisingly nobody wants to do

does competition not naturally drive competitors to reduce margins?
jgbuddy··on Ask HN: Claude Opus performance affected by time of day?
It seems clear that, rather than throttling, anthropic serves lower quality versions of their models during peak usage to keep up with demand. They refuse to admit it, and it's hard to prove, but these threads consistently happen ~3 months after every single model release.

Just don't work for non-technical people, problem solved. They're usually less successful anyways

jgbuddy··on Bose has released API docs and opened the API for its EoL SoundTouch speakers
Great on bose for doing this, but this is some of the funniest documentation I have ever seen. PDF with structs cut in half on page breaks lol

I work at Amazon and can escalate this if you're interested. Let me know the order ID and I'll see what I can do.
jgbuddy··on Using AI Generated Code Will Make You a Bad Programmer
A bad programmer maybe, but a better / faster developer.

this is like saying computers fit a billion numbers in 32 bits. Each dimension adds a new degree of space
jgbuddy··on How we built an interpreter for Swift
I suppose you could argue the repl is not a true interpreter (parsing and executing from an AST)
jgbuddy··on How we built an interpreter for Swift
Swift can already be used in REPL mode, not sure if it's accurate to say Swift is a strictly compiled language that a interpreter was developed for (see 'swift' command line executable). Seems misleading that this is not mentioned anywhere in the article.
