jesusofnazarath··on Ledger
Hledger has a more sane query language, but its not as powerful as ledger's. Also probably less bugs than ledger. Ledger, however, lets you do pretty much anything you want and thats why i prefer it. of course its easier to make mistakes with it, but i prefer the freedom it offers.
jesusofnazarath··on Tell HN: YouTube RSS feeds are gone
Thankfully Invidious provides their own RSS feeds
jesusofnazarath··on U.N. votes to end US embargo on Cuba; US and Israel oppose
Socialism is a bad example for the population of the united states. The people might think that the government could be used to do something useful for them. Can't have that.
jesusofnazarath··on Fine-tune your own Llama 2 to replace GPT-3.5/4
Can't we have something for the command line that takes the form of

    cat new_data.txt | finetune model.file > new_model.file
jesusofnazarath··on Infinitely Nested Window Management
i3 kinda does this. It manages workspaces/windows/tabs. I use qutebrowser and it has the option of 'tabs as windows' so that i3 can handle my browser tabs. My user experience is pretty consistant across my entire system.

Firefox doesn't allow each tab to be a window, which breaks the consistancy but i only sometimes have to use that.

But as has been mentioned, plan9 does this at a design level.

jesusofnazarath··on Plan 9 from User Space
acme is the best unix editor period.
jesusofnazarath··on A nasal spray protects against coronavirus including immune-evasive variants
I found the Betadyne mouth/nasal wash as prescibed by Peter Mccullough to be effective when i had omicron.
jesusofnazarath··on The unequal treatment of demographic groups by ChatGPT/OpenAI content moderation
How are you so sure that thought itself is not a statistical model? I mean that's the whole philosophical question raised by how good ChatGPT actually is.
jesusofnazarath··on A command line tool that draw plots on the terminal
This is great thanks. I never could figure out gnuplot, this is way easier to use and just does what you want!! Thanks so much!
jesusofnazarath··on LineageOS 20
So this list is ranked best to worst?
jesusofnazarath··on A search engine for searching books in the Z-Library index on the IPFS network
looks great. Is there an api for something like this so i can make it an extension of my terminal?
jesusofnazarath··on EU-wide maximum limit of €10K for cash payments
A car?
jesusofnazarath··on Venetians fear ‘museum relic’ status as population drops below 50k
> It might be AirBnB that really ends up taking it out. Whatever you'd pay to live that life, somebody else will pay more to spend a night in it.

Yep. Great way to put it. I've felt for a while that airBnB is the rot at the core of many previously great cities.

jesusofnazarath··on The Tao of Acme
I've been using Acme exclusivly for almost 6 years now. I consider it to be the only true GUI text editor that has been developed, and the only non-trivial development in editor-technology since vim and emacs.

Like emacs it is more then just an editor, it is a full programming environment. If it was extended to support more then just text it could be a full desktop environment.

I see posts complaining about having to write your own integrations....well thats exactly the point of Acme. Its a programmers editor. Your write tools to make your programs, to create better tools to create better programs, to ....

Acme creates an environment, like the unix shell, for all those programs to be integrated. Acme is the modern shell!

It's sad that nothing better has been created since (~30 years)

jesusofnazarath··on Cities should not pay for new stadiums
Thats not a subsidy, it's advertising. The best way to make a highly incompetent and ineffective organization (like the military) look good is by imagining it is good.
jesusofnazarath··on Show HN: Detect Russian visitors to block them and protest the war in Ukraine
Yes, punish the civillians of russia for the decisions of the global oilgarchs. I love the foaming-at-the-mouth war effort here.

Lest we forget the true words of Hermann Goering,

"voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of
the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are
being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and
exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country."
