jeremyswank··on Show HN: Hacker News for film buffs
For me, it only lacks an RSS feed. It's great that you're doing this. It would be more useful to me if it showed up in my feed reader, that is all.
jeremyswank··on 18-year-old personal website, built with Frontpage and still updated
My first site is still live. It went live in 1997, hand coded (using tables). Went through a few redesigns but the 2000 version has been left online as a fixed digital artifact from the time: http://pwp.detritus.net/
jeremyswank··on Southeastern Anatolia, minute by minute
Judging from the commenting history of the author of Poemas del río Wang, I would say that they would be very interested in hearing your feedback and would be receptive to any criticism that could improve the accuracy of the reporting.
jeremyswank··on Composing with Tape Recorders: Musique Concrète for Beginners [pdf]
or maybe the Tape-beatles http://www.ubu.com/sound/tape_beatles.html
jeremyswank··on Show HN: Marta – A fast and minimalistic file manager for macOS
And if you option double-click the divider, all of the columns will be the right size.
jeremyswank··on Ask HN: Does anyone here have an art degree?
MFA 1988 Intermedia (my BA was in Film). I did most of my master's degree in a Photography department using xerography (Photocopy) as my main medium, so I was friendly with technology to begin with. Got a Mac fairly early, in 1987, as soon as I realized I could set professional-looking type on it. I was always interested in both precise exression and flexible experimentation.

As someone who matured as an artist on the cusp of the transition from analog to digital, I feel I have a one foot firmly planted in both. Analog is more forgiving, the digital environment requires rigor. Now I am more or less a designer by paid profession (and a sound artist by chosen profession) and I make web sites for a living, mainly for cultural institutions. (Mostly using Drupal, in case you are interested.) I went from xerox to here by essentially being fascinated by publishing, the sheer difficulty and amount of work it took to put words on paper; and thence to the web, where it became somewhat (ahem) easier.

jeremyswank··on Show HN: Lesen.io a multi source tech reader for Hacker News, Reddit and Slashdot
The web app version should have an RSS feed.
jeremyswank··on Ask HN: How many of you have paid for sublime text?
I paid. I also paid for BBEdit. I still use both.
jeremyswank··on Pittsburghese Expertise: Dropping “To Be”
Actually, 'you' is the second person plural in English. If you want a singular, you'll need to recover 'thou' from history's dumpster.
jeremyswank··on Returning True Color to B&W Photos
I don't actually believe that Carole Lombard was quite that pink in real life.
jeremyswank··on Inflammation: Medicine's burning question
What are your credentials for making these statements?
jeremyswank··on The Tomb of Queen Esther in Persia
The blogger at Poemas del río Wang is a personal friend of mine. (Sometimes I also write for his blog.) By profession he is a translator and art historian, a Hungarian by birth living in Berlin. I have gone on many of his tours, and travelled with him personally as well. I can unreservedly recommend his tours, but they fill up quickly. Most of the participants are Hungarian speakers, but he can translate on the fly into English, and other languages, too.

A link to his upcoming Iran trip: http://riowang.blogspot.cz/2015/08/come-with-us-to-iran.html

Incidentally, I wanted to go on this trip, but as a US passport holder, I would not be free to go wherever I want without an Iranian-appointed guide on a limited itinerary (at least as I understand the situation).

jeremyswank··on Paternoster
There's at least one on Vodičková near the Lucerna, and one in the Poliklinika in Břevnov, too.
jeremyswank··on Dear Apple, why is my iPhone always full?
does it have an option not to make the photos public?
jeremyswank··on Hyphen Hate? When Amazon went to war against punctuation
i didn't think a human being could be a 'nonce', or is this some new usage i don't know about?
jeremyswank··on Ask HN: OS X folks – do you use Finder?
Sure, I totally understand your desire to do things the way you're used to, but launching apps (imho) has never been easier for me by invoking Spotlight, typing the first letter or 2 of the appname and when the app you want is highlighted, hit return. Spotlight knows where all your apps are so you don't have to.
jeremyswank··on Ask HN: OS X folks – do you use Finder?
What TotalFinder offers is probably worth the 20 bucks, but I find my Finder dissatisfaction itch is scratched by Xtrafinder for free.
jeremyswank··on Wire – Modern Communications Network
perhaps, but in it i detect a New Yorker magazine-style use of the dieresis to separate vowels into syllables that a reader might be inclined to pronouce together as a single sound, e.g.: reëlect for re-elect.
jeremyswank··on Wire – Modern Communications Network
noöne? really? when did 'no one' become insufficiently clear?
jeremyswank··on The Anti-hero of CSS Layout – “display:table”
"I seem to recall there's a term for what I'm reaching for." Conflated?
jeremyswank··on Bugged recordings of prominent Turks are appearing almost every day
unless a turk typed it and used the wrong 'i'. there is a distinction in turkish between the two.
jeremyswank··on Ask HN: What are some alternatives to HN?
please send invite.
jeremyswank··on Poll HN: What is your personality type?
melancholic, with a soupçon of wry derision.
jeremyswank··on The NSA Reportedly Has Total Access To The Apple iPhone
I guess you probably mean J. Edgar Hoover, a former head of the FBI.
jeremyswank··on How old are you and what's your oldest code online?
56. does html count? pwp.detritus.net from 1997.
jeremyswank··on One-electron universe
this is hilarious, guys. keep it goin'.
jeremyswank··on Is democracy overrated?
monarchy, autocracy, and tyranny have been around a lot longer than 2500 years. don't we still have those, too?
jeremyswank··on A History of Film in Wikipedia
very few foreign films here, a large number of which have been decisively influential on even the US cinema. so, in the end, it think we understand wikipedia better, rather than understanding film history better.
jeremyswank··on Yottabyte
just because it's "designed to" store yottabytes does not mean that it actually does right now. they're just designing the system for the future.
jeremyswank··on Thousands dead, millions deprived of civil liberties? (2001)
drool, more likely.
