jere··on September 2026: The world today, as seen by one Polish guy
I really appreciate the self reflection. For those of us that see it right away it's bewildering to read defenses of it as simply "good writing style". Even in the very first section it shouts Claude to me. Skimming I can understand.

The scary thing is that most of these Claudisms can be tuned down easily if that's what Anthropic was trying to do (and may in the future). Then it would be nearly impossible to tell.

Sounds legit

jere··on When did Google get so weird?
You were.
jere··on AI-generated posters don’t have to be horrible
> I've never been in a cliché-looking restaurant that is actually decent

You either have an absurd standard for "decent" or this is one of the weirdest comments I've ever read here.

jere··on Claude, change the “Add to Cart” button to blue
Now that's what I call a joke.
jere··on Recreating Minecraft Is Not a Benchmark
It just kills me how there is this meme that minecraft is just walking around on a bunch of grass and dirt voxels and if you have that, you have minecraft. It was way, way more complicated than that even 15 years ago.
jere··on Navier-Stokes – Tristan Buckmaster [pdf]
I tried to word my comment carefully to avoid pedantry, but alas.

I don't think everyone agree with your notion that the language and tools of mathematics aren't human inventions.

jere··on Navier-Stokes – Tristan Buckmaster [pdf]
Math, like any other human endeavor, doesn't exist until someone is motivated to invent it. The laws of the universe aren't understood until someone is motivated to discover them. So it might be worthwhile to not completely ignore discussion about incentives.
jere··on How I feel about AI
Did y'all reach any consensus on that?
jere··on Recreating Minecraft Is Not a Benchmark
But they're not recreating Minecraft. They're recreating one of the most common tutorials on the internet that shows a simple voxel overworld and nothing else. That's not Minecraft.
jere··on How I feel about AI
My experience online is if you don't show full throated rejection of all things related to AI, you're labeled an AI bro. None of the antis care how you feel.

I had my decade old game completely cloned on steam (clearly done using AI as it was almost fully reimplemented in another engine). And I had several people gleefully tell me I deserve this because I've used AI.

I have complex emotions here (overall dread and especially hate for slop, since it's not just bad quality but also endless lies), but no one cares about that nuance.

jere··on The Teaser Period: Why the AI Boom Is Hitting a Reset Wall
> During those first two years the loan performed beautifully: the borrower paid, the servicer collected, and the bond paid its coupon. Nothing looked wrong because the whole complex - housing, mortgages, securitization - was sitting inside the teaser period... Every ARM reset was known, dated, and contractually inevitable from the moment of origination.

This is clearly slop. Heavy use of dashes. Rules of three throughout. Pangram says 100% of what I checked was AI.

jere··on AI;DR (AI; Didn't Read)
And how could you possibly distinguish those scenarios without wasting all your time?
jere··on Semaglutide linked to lower predicted dementia risk
> I imagine people hundred years in the future will think of our current society rightfully as dumbfucks. But should we be surprised? 50 years ago women didn't have voting rights

Good news: the readers of your post don't have to wait 100 years to have that thought.

jere··on Beltrunner: Game Design Postmortem
If you wrote this, apologies. Blame Pangram in having high confidence that most of this is AI, my spidey sense going off because it sounded strongly like AI to me before I checked Pangram, and most importantly my lack of imagination in what people finding interesting.
jere··on Beltrunner: Game Design Postmortem
> I like that it begins as Asteroids, turns into a countdown race, borrows ideas from Nintendo, Bomb Jack and Pang, and then actually ends after sixteen waves that can be learnt by heart

The thing about using AI to write articles for you is, because it's tuned to be enthusiastic about everything, it doesn't know what's boring and uninteresting. Shameful.

jere··on Taxi drivers rarely die of Alzheimer's
> A taxi driver who works 60 hours a week will have very little time left over for drinking

That's plenty of time to be a full blown alcoholic.

jere··on Taxi drivers rarely die of Alzheimer's
Yea "rarely" is pretty misleading. It makes it seem like it almost never happens when it's just a slightly lower chance (if that's even true).
jere··on Bonsai: Janestreet's UI Library
HN is obsessed with anything done in niche programming languages, is my guess.
jere··on AI poster wins Ohio State Fair contest
They look much better. I don't know if it's just my exposure to AI images but the first place one looks so obviously like AI slop.
jere··on AI doesn't generate working products, that's still your job
I'm tired of this "X was never the hard part" meme when in fact X (this time: prototyping) was in fact difficult.

jere··on 15-minute at-home Lyme disease tick test
You do get more sensitive to bad lifestyle habits in your 30s, but none of those are normal symptoms attributable to "aging" in your 30s. Really weird when people around this age act like they're just on death's doorstop.
jere··on 15-minute at-home Lyme disease tick test
I've had a reckoning with my caffeine metabolism recently. I fall asleep very easily, like head hits pillow and I'm zonked within a minute. But I often wake up at 3 or 4am and am unable to go back asleep.

What I've learned is that caffeine metabolism goes down with age and sleep gets lighter with age. Even if you can fall asleep easily, the residual caffeine in the middle of the night is enough to wake you out of light sleep. I made a tool to convince myself to cut back: http://jitterdone.com

jere··on Voxel Space (2017)
I still think this is a weird framing overall, but yes I see your quoted line "a height map is" was applying to this article and not generally.
