jeltz··on What happened to the Snowden archive
No, it doesn't. You still see the domain name in the TLS headers.
jeltz··on Show HN: Radius – A Meetup.com Alternative
Same with Facebook. It is extremely hard to follow events published on Instagram or Facebook.
jeltz··on AWS says it can't restore some data from mideast facilities struck by Iran
I mean that is how it works in all legal systems. If you refuse to pay your assets will be seized. Which is why they would almost certainly not refuse.
jeltz··on AWS says it can't restore some data from mideast facilities struck by Iran
Why wouldn't they be able to collect? As long as Amazon does business in a country the legal system in that country can collect.
jeltz··on EU chief opens door for Canada to become 'associate member'
Yeah, the scandal is about different members being held to different standards. Why are Azerbaijan and Israel allowed to stay while Russia got kicked out? Especially since Azerbaijan and Israel both have manipulated the voting in addition to waging wars.
jeltz··on EU chief opens door for Canada to become 'associate member'
Having health with VATMOSS too my experience is that it was trivial to implement. Maybe your country fucked up the rollout? Here in Sweden I had zero issues.
jeltz··on Ubuntu 26.10 completes transition to Rust-based coreutils
> Are people saying that there's an ideology of pushing rust for things without concern for quality?

Yes, there is. There are people who genuinely think quality does not matter as log as it is written in Rust as Rust is memory safe.

jeltz··on Ubuntu 26.10 completes transition to Rust-based coreutils
My solution was to stop using Ubuntu and move to Debian.
jeltz··on How much of F-Droid is LLM generated?
LLMs for sure need those things. maybe not the same abstractions as humans do but without understabdable code an LLM will just fail to accomplish the task you ask it to do.
jeltz··on How much of F-Droid is LLM generated?
Not sure what you mean as system design conversations because while in theory those can be good in practice the ones I have been at had been techbro wankery where the interviewer had a particular answer in mind. Like designing your own memcached clone for example is a terrible task for systems design.
jeltz··on How much of F-Droid is LLM generated?
Not sure what I can say but the LLMs simply do not write good code without tons of handholding. As a C developer most LLMed patches I have seen the last couple of months have been awful and the few good ones I know from the author themselves that they did a ton of iteration and/or manual cleanup. Maybe they are less bad at writing other languages.
jeltz··on How much of F-Droid is LLM generated?
LLMs produce pretty crappy code but they are very useful tools for protyping, code search and finding bugs. Maybe LLMs in the future will be able to write good code but they are very far from that right now.
jeltz··on How much of F-Droid is LLM generated?
That is not the same topic. LLMs are useful tools, and that is despite them producing fucking awful code.
jeltz··on Suspected sabotage causes major Netherlands rail disruption
Not really, I do not buy that. Ukrainian intelligence can sabotage train tracks deep within Belarus and Russia. And given how convient it would be to blame Russia here I wonder why they do not.
jeltz··on Suspected sabotage causes major Netherlands rail disruption
What implications? Why wouldn't they want an, in this case real, external enemy they could use to distract the people from their own failures?
jeltz··on Mullenweg has returned as CEO after attempted board ouster
Quite likely but I still doubt anyone will involve the police despite crimes very likely having been committed.
jeltz··on Nike exits the S&P 100 after 18 years and a $200B market-cap wipeout
Many, maybe even most, online casinos target women primarily.
jeltz··on Mullenweg has returned as CEO after attempted board ouster
This is very dependent on jurisdiction and type of company.
jeltz··on Mullenweg has returned as CEO after attempted board ouster
Matt was here on HN writing strange comments and undermining his own legal case despite people telling him to stop underming himself. That self destructive behavior is why people started to think he was having a mental health crisis.

And you seem to know way too much about this to be "not involved at all in WP".

jeltz··on Mullenweg has returned as CEO after attempted board ouster
They are not necessarily untreatable but to be treatable they need to realize and admit they have an issue, which is unlikely and gets even less likely if they are financially successful.
jeltz··on Mullenweg has returned as CEO after attempted board ouster
So do you have any comment on the article or are you just here to promote Automattic?
jeltz··on Mullenweg has returned as CEO after attempted board ouster
Yeah, but I am doubtful that the board wants to involve the police.
jeltz··on Don't be the out of touch Kung Fu master
I would rather listen to someone with current merits than someone who has not produced anything notable in years. Especially if the topic is current trends in software development.
jeltz··on Don't be the out of touch Kung Fu master
But as he has little to show the last decades we have very little reason to listen to him over some random blogger.
jeltz··on Eating Fruit Skins
I eat whole cherries, I am too lazy to spit out the pits do I swallow them whole. So far it has not been any issue at all and I eat a lot of cherries.
jeltz··on A few good ideas in programming languages
Maybe the marketing pitch, like many other pitches, was a lie?
jeltz··on A few good ideas in programming languages
In Rust variables are not destroyed after the last borrow ends but instead when it goes out of scope. I guess that is why it us called borrow checking.
jeltz··on OpenAI might have stolen another major proof
To me that is not a credit thing because this removes a piece evidence for the ability of AI to come up with novel ideas while still making it a useful tool.
jeltz··on Programming is Art
The agents still write bad code unless my colleagues and the people who submit PRs to the repos I am responsible for somehow use agents from last year.

And, no, it is not a question about style or preferences, the code is messy and contains to me as a maintainer obvious bugs.

jeltz··on Keep Our Servers Running
Actually rich people think they re helping more than that. If we assume the average length of a recurring donation is 6 months they feel they help 8 dollars for every 2 they donate.

But otherwise you are right, this is done because it makes everyone donating feel like a winner other than few cynics like me. :D But that said I do not mind these drives.
