Please feel free to track me down and email those use cases to me.
jeffbarr··on Amazon S3 Block Public Access: Protection for Your Accounts and Buckets
They have been private by default since the launch of S3 in 2006.
jeffbarr··on In the Works – AWS Region in Milan, Italy
I am happy to share feedback with the Polly team! Can you be more specific about what you believe sounds bad?
jeffbarr··on New Lower-Cost, AMD-Powered M5a and R5a EC2 Instances
Visit the EC2 pricing table at https://aws.amazon.com/ec2/pricing/on-demand/ , choose the US East (Northern Virginia) Region, and you will find prices.
jeffbarr··on Disposable Ballpoint Pen History: Pennies on the Dollar
Interesting history!

As a left-hander fountain pens are more trouble and mess than they are worth. My handwriting sucks anyway.

My current favorite ballpoint is the Zebra F-701. I've replaced the ink several times and the pen is still as good as new. It has a nice solid feed and the knurled barrel is also good for small desktop sanding and grinding tasks :-).

I do my best to possess exactly one pen at a time, and do not have any spares laying around. This forces me to take care not to lose my trusty F-701.

jeffbarr··on Amazon EC2 Instance Update – Faster Processors and More Memory
We just gave Polly the ability to ensure that a given block of text is spoken within a specified period of time:

https://aws.amazon.com/blogs/aws/amazon-polly-update-time-dr...

I am messaging the team to see how we might use this for the plugin.

jeffbarr··on Amazon EC2 Instance Update – Faster Processors and More Memory
Hmmm - cool idea, but definitely ambitious and re:Invent is almost here.

The plugin is open source and we welcome PRs at https://github.com/awslabs/amazon-polly-wordpress-plugin . Feel free to code something up and give it a try :-)

jeffbarr··on Amazon EC2 Instance Update – Faster Processors and More Memory
The audio is generated by Amazon Polly; see https://aws.amazon.com/blogs/aws/give-your-wordpress-blog-a-... for more info!

I now use the audio version as a second form of proofreading, and find that it helps me to find places where my written transitions could be better.

I agree that there's room to make the contents of the table sound better, but I am not sure what direction this should go in. Suggestions are welcome!

jeffbarr··on Motorola M68000 Family Programmer’s Reference Manual (1992) [pdf]
Back in the 1980's, I took one of these chips and ran four copies of the same OS on it, using some virtual memory and driver magic. The full story can be found at http://jeff-barr.com/2008/01/08/inmsx-running-4-copies-of-an... .
jeffbarr··on Amazon Aurora Backtrack
As I noted in the blog post, the storage resides within the cluster. It is storing small values (log sequence numbers) so the space is used with great efficiency, but there is a finite limit. While I don't know the specifics, I would expect that the mapping (time to size) was chosen based on real-world historical data. Cause that's how we roll!
jeffbarr··on Get Started with Blockchain Using the New AWS Blockchain Templates
I wrote it, and great to hear! Did it make sense in the context of multiple uses for blockchain?
jeffbarr··on Radio host Art Bell has died
The man rumored to be John Titor is currently in jail for drugging and raping at least four women: http://www.oregonlive.com/portland/index.ssf/2013/10/post_37...
jeffbarr··on Oracle Said to Be Leading Anti-Amazon Lobby on Pentagon Cloud Bid
Happy to help - there are plenty of open positions on the AWS team!
jeffbarr··on Node.js 8.10 runtime now available in AWS Lambda
We review and then approve all on-topic comments, but are working through a bit of a backlog this morning from what I understand.
jeffbarr··on AWS documentation is now open source and on GitHub
I wrote it -- do I need to make a fix??
jeffbarr··on AWS Lambda Releases Go Support
I'm alive and well! Due to the number of launches we have to pick and choose a subset for the main AWS Blog. Stay tuned for some cool stuff...
jeffbarr··on Etsy Announces Move to Google Cloud
To infinity and beyond, obviously....
jeffbarr··on Amazon Translate – Real-Time Language Translation

jeffbarr··on A man who shared his books and multiplied them (2012)
My Seattle neighborhood has over 30 Little Free Library (https://littlefreelibrary.org/) book exchanges. The owners tell me that they simply seed the exchanges with an initial collection of books and do little in the way of curation or maintenance after that.
jeffbarr··on GTD in 15 Minutes – A Pragmatic Guide to Getting Things Done
I keep a printed list in outline form, edited and annotated as I make progress throughout the day. My list contains items as diverse as building mind maps and writing blog posts for re:Invent, flattening out some boxes in my recycling pile, updating my will, and adding final screen shots to those blog posts. So far so good.

The key to productivity for me is to make the actual act of checking something off of the list a cause for a tiny internal celebration. As I make that checkmark I make sure that I feel a sense of accomplishment. This might sound trivial, but it works!

Can you test this on the production version? I know that many issues were addressed during the preview period.
jeffbarr··on Gluon – Deep Learning API from AWS and Microsoft
As far as I know, none of my colleagues can golf. But I hear that we do have some nice courses.
jeffbarr··on 80K worth of AWS Credit – help extend startup runway

jeffbarr··on AWS Security Primer
Ok, good start, but pretend that I am dense and give me a specific example along the lines of "The W console makes it hard to do X because it says Y. Why not say Z instead?" Vector values for W, X, Y, and Z are acceptable.
jeffbarr··on AWS Security Primer
Any aspect in particular? I'm always happy to pass feedback along to the teams.
