jeetoid··on ICE director envisions Amazon-like mass deportation system
> his public persona is essentially that of an angry baby

pure projection on your part

jeetoid··on ICE director envisions Amazon-like mass deportation system
> Might makes right with these people.

As though the entire Biden administration that precedes him doesn't play by this exact principle?

What is the alternative reality that the rest of the world or opposing parties in the US supposedly lives by? In what world does someone have to live at the behest of their opponents and professed haters and simply acquiesce and do whatever they say?

jeetoid··on ICE director envisions Amazon-like mass deportation system
More than half the US agrees given the choice even after term and seeing his opponent serve as VP. Yes I'm suggesting that he is better and asserting that the histrionic response is divorced from reality.
jeetoid··on ICE director envisions Amazon-like mass deportation system
I don’t think deportation is evil. In fact I applaud this.
jeetoid··on ICE Revoking Students' Immigration Statuses Without Their or the Uni's Knowledge
You’re unhinged and breaking HN rules, sorry. I’m not the one cursing.
jeetoid··on About 90% of Migrants Sent to Salvador Lacked US Criminal Record
I give you an example of one of the worst public crimes in recent memory, that was only possible because we’ve been shoddily enforcing deportations
jeetoid··on Trump temporarily drops tariffs to 10% for most countries
Any reasonable person does.
jeetoid··on About 90% of Migrants Sent to Salvador Lacked US Criminal Record
> Now you've de-emphasized dealing with criminals

By any reasonable account, criminals were already de-emphasized.

A woman was burned alive on the subway by an illegal immigrant. That only happens when law enforcement has been categorically denied the opportunity to punish law breakers of all stripes.

jeetoid··on Major endometriosis study reveals impact of gluten, coffee, dairy and alcohol
I've had to actually diagnose myself a couple times after seeing a string of doctors and even specialists. It's baffling how bad my experience has been and it's not just one specialty, and I have good insurance too.

It's exactly how you describe, short appointments that are hard to come by and a general skepticism and aloofness from my doctors.

jeetoid··on ICE Revoking Students' Immigration Statuses Without Their or the Uni's Knowledge
This happened continuously during the Biden administration when they formed an entire network of public-private censorship and liberals told us “freedom of speech does not mean freedom of reach.” You can also reference the entire saga of Russiagate, and litany of lawfare against Trump that was looking for every and any way to jail him and his family.
jeetoid··on When the physicists need burner phones, that's when you know America's changed
> Trump and his goons hate science and critical thinking

this is really entirely subjective and I'd be surprised if something like this isn't moderated for being flamebait

Jason Stanley? Jason Stanley, the Jacob Urowsky Professor of Philosophy at Yale University? [1]

jeetoid··on How the American Medical Association Screws Doctors
Weird I wouldn’t have known, I got a crazy wait for my physician and quality seems to have gone down
jeetoid··on Imagine telling 2010 devs that in 2025, collapsing a div would require $8/ month
Such a great observation. I find this broadly applies to every aspect of humanity but especially government, more so than corporations could ever manage. Corporations at least have SOME competitive pressure, much less scope, many more constraints and far less power.
jeetoid··on Children under eight should avoid slushies as glycerol leads to hospitalisations
I wonder how much glycerol they use, the article is scant on data.

You'll often see somewhere around 10g of glycerol in a protein bar, bodybuilders take quite a bit too in order to increase water in muscles and it's safe [0].

Glycerin is also used for baking, used for stuff like fondant.

jeetoid··on How the United States could devastate China by quickly decoupling
> presented without evidence

I laid out how globalism was pushed by the economic academic consensus as the enlightened approach to international relation with China.

I said that it has clearly failed to advance US interests over the past 30+ years and resulted in the decimation of the working class in America and hollowing out of the economy.

I don't think that's a rant, nor argument without evidence.

jeetoid··on How the United States could devastate China by quickly decoupling
> Blaming academics is just fascist garbage

isn't this flamebait?

jeetoid··on How the United States could devastate China by quickly decoupling
We won't see eye-to-eye on this, who exactly were the reasonable intellectuals that were going to save us? Maybe Hayek or Mises, Keynes won the day and look where we are.

The past century is defined by Progressivism, from the New Deal and subsequent Great Society, which was hoisted by the World Wars and complete centralization of society into the administrative state run by supposed experts.

At every level it's been experts and intellectuals of all sorts, think someone like Paul Krugman - there's countless others, who we're told have it all figured out and we should simply accept all their demands and if anyone disagrees well they're rubes and what do they know.

jeetoid··on How the US economy went from booming to a recession scare in only 20 days
> And all stock market players, including the big whales, are just dumb and are easily influenced by the media?

Well Democrats and liberals globally generally do regard the voting public as stupid and easily influenced by the media, why are stock market players any different, if not worse?

jeetoid··on How the United States could devastate China by quickly decoupling
Let me just elaborate that a country like the US that artificially floats it's own currency as the global base currency will of course piss away its wealth and through bypassing the natural corrective mechanism [0] will have no way to reverse course.

[0]: lost wealth (typically gold reserves) -> a weaker currency -> global economic incentive to begin exporting valuable goods and begin steadily recouping the lost wealth

jeetoid··on How the United States could devastate China by quickly decoupling
I think we should ignore people in universities since they're the ones who brought us here, advising us to embrace global trade and admit China into the WTO under the obviously wrong thinking that trade would somehow magically transform them into a liberalized ally.

What ended up happening was the complete deindustrialization of the US and decimation of the working class, massive trade imbalance and essentially handing over untold wealth to the despotic Chinese regime.

Only an academic could come up with such a disastrous plan under such sophisticated and intelligent pretense.

jeetoid··on We built a crowdsourced interview question database for tech interviews
> Someone who's willing to spend 3-6 months cramming interview questions is also someone who is unlikely to drop the ball.

I don't believe this at all, they're unlikely to not comply and execute arbitrary commands. Which at least in my experience is orthogonal to whether they're able to actually problem solve or build good things.

jeetoid··on Cliff Asness: The New 'Crypto Fort Knox' Is as Dumb as It Sounds
On the other hand, the price has steadily risen far beyond any other investment over the past 15 years and there's a credible argument for why this would continue. The amount of money recouped by selling, which is only done once, is far less than the continuous payments of the absurdly bloated and outright criminal administrative state and so many other federal programs.
jeetoid··on Cliff Asness: The New 'Crypto Fort Knox' Is as Dumb as It Sounds
I’m not sure I follow how establishing a strategic reserve out of a digital commodity confiscated from crime is a threat to “a highly indebted nation”.

Additionally they’re planning to use revenue neutral ways to add to the Bitcoin reserve.

The great part about Bitcoin is that it can be time-locked to avoid spending to prevent, say, changing political parties that may decide to liquidate the reserve.
