jeb··on Ask HN: Review my status board startup
Really nice. Needs plugins, so my specific business needs can also be aded.
jeb··on Ask HN: Unsupportive spouse/partner/SO?
A spouse can see things from an outside perspective. If your spouse thinks it's a bad idea, then maybe it really is a bad idea.

jeb··on Nigerian Internet use increasing
India is not particularly well off. It has a higher poverty rate than Africa, for example.

I get the joke. But it's not funny. I've read the same joke about 1000 times on various forums. It's just a somewhat mean statement with no humour at all.
jeb··on Nigerian Internet use increasing
It's about as funny as a joke about how Americans will invade your country, or italians will murder your cousin.

Pointless jokes about silly stereotypes do not belong on forums where people try to discuss reasonably about things.

About 30 notable websites are blocked, counting from the list you posted.
jeb··on Nigerian Internet use increasing
25 million pretty normal people would not find your statement very nice. The U.S sends a lot of Viagra spam - but that does not mean that all the internet users are sending viagra spam.

Spam reaches a lot of people, because that's its intent. Extrapolating from spam is silly.

jeb··on Nigerian Internet use increasing
There are about 20 or 30 websites blocked in china. Not that many.
jeb··on Nigerian Internet use increasing
But look at the rate of growth...
jeb··on Nigerian Internet use increasing
The president of Nigeria already has 126k fans on facebook http://www.facebook.com/jonathangoodluck and 1700 comments for each of his daily posts.

That's impressive considering that his account is just a couple of months old.

jeb··on Ask HN: How do you deal with suicidal thoughts ?
Break out of the system you are in. Get yourself into dangerous situations.
jeb··on Ask HN: Tips and Tricks to Save Money While Running a Startup
When I had no money, I'd get even $20 software off there. Now I buy $20 software, but I get $900 software off there. In the future perhaps, I'll buy $900 software.
jeb··on R.I.P. David Blackwell
Thank goodness we live in the now. Imagine all you want to do is study mathematics, and people are constantly pushing you here and there because of the color of your skin.

Equality really is a great thing.

jeb··on Ask HN web designers/devs: What are your pain points?
rsync is a command line tool and you need to enter the username and password everytime.
jeb··on Ask HN: Tips and Tricks to Save Money While Running a Startup
Use thepiratebay. But you probably already do. Set deadlines! People don't work well without deadlines.
jeb··on ASK HN: Feedback on my 9,356th attempt at a niche business.
It's not high enough, change it to 930th and it would be an obvious exaggeration.
jeb··on ASK HN: Feedback on my 9,356th attempt at a niche business.
Seriously? You've failed 92 times? If so, perhaps you should try something else?
jeb··on Ask HN web designers/devs: What are your pain points?
Getting the html/php code from my offline development tool into the server in an easy manner. I don't want to develop on the server, but I want to update only those files I changed.

In an easy manner, not with post commit scripts or so.

jeb··on Save My Life: an update (Celiac biopsy negative)
Did you test for sleeping sickness: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/African_trypanosomiasis?

Western doctors rarely check for African diseases.

jeb··on Ask HN: resources for training for IQ test?
I'd never hire a person who was a member of mensa. If you feel the need to get a certificate proving your intelligence, then you're not intelligent enough for me.
jeb··on BP finally stops oil spewing from Gulf gusher
Let's look at the positive parts of this:

1. All oil companies are going to upgrade their safety standards

2. A lot of new knowledge on how to seal oil leaks has been brought into the world. This knowledge will have various applications, and if a bigger leak happens again, then there will be more preparation

jeb··on Poll: How do you use the comments and articles on HN?
If the article seems boring from the title or I've read it before, I'll just read the comments (and sometimes a comment will make me read the article).
jeb··on Thesis and the GPL
Wordpress is a plug-in platform. You can load and execute plugins, you can load and execute themes. Those themes may call the wordpress API, but a theme + wordpress is not a new form or branch of wordpress. So it's not a derivative work in the sense that the GPL intends derivative works to be.

You can look at technicalities, like how wordpress designs its API, but those are not faults of the themes.

What is a theme actually? It's a look and feel, and this look and feel is not dependent on wordpress. A theme could exist across many different blogging platforms. Each platform will provide a different API for the theme to interact with it, but the look and feel of the theme has nothing to do with this interface. The theme is a conceptual abstraction that is in no way dependent on the existence of wordpress as another conceptual abstraction.

As such, I believe that the thesis theme should not be GPLed.

Chris Pearson generally is quite the ass. Try submitting any comment that in any way mildly suggests he might be wrong to his blog - it gets deleted immediately.
jeb··on Doing the Right Things is More Important than Doing Things Right
You may do Bingo Card Software brilliantly, A/B test everything down to the core, but in the end, no matter how brilliant it is, it's still just Bingo Card Software, and the market is limited.

If you pick something else with a much larger upper bound (like a game or so), when you spend all the time optimizing, you'll expand and expand your audience, and make more and more money.

jeb··on Did Whites Flee the 'Digital Ghetto' of MySpace?
The article makes a big, big mistake. The same proportion of black people left myspace, but if you are white on facebook, and your friends are mostly white, then facebook looks like a white place. Same with blacks - if you are black and your friends are mostly black on facebook, it looks like a black place.

Myspace looks "ghetto" simply because there are more minority bands, and so more minorities still maintain active facebook profiles.

jeb··on Love in the Age of the Pickup Artist
It's absolutely challenging. It takes a lot of training, willpower, dedication and willingness to fail to be successful at this.
jeb··on Love in the Age of the Pickup Artist
I've found out one thing that will no doubt annoy a lot of people - if you are unhappy and depressed, because you don't have many challenges in life, or you are underchallenged or something (in school, work, etc), then try the game as a new fun activity. It will cure your depression, because it's so fundamentally animal, and it has the biggest pay off of any sport you could try.
