jdorfman··on Show HN: HackYourNews – AI summaries of the top HN stories
This is cool! How do you plan to make it sustainable? I can’t imagine this being cheap over time unless you have a sponsorship with OpenAI.
jdorfman··on New models, tooling for Vertex AI generative AI
Sourcegraph uses OpenAI for embeddings. The default LLM is Claude 2 and Claude Instant for completions.
jdorfman··on Amazon acquires Fig
I’ve been using Fig since the beta days and I love it. I’m sure there will be some changes but at least they didn’t sell to Google. Congrats to Brendan and the team.
jdorfman··on Cody – The AI that knows your entire codebase
We look forward to your feedback :)
jdorfman··on Cody – The AI that knows your entire codebase
We use OpenAI for their embeddings API.

We should have this in our docs, but for now you can read this whitepaper if you are interested: https://about.sourcegraph.com/whitepaper/cody-context-archit...

jdorfman··on Show HN: Browser extension replacing the X with the original Twitter logo
This takes me back when Yahoo! started to add their logo to Flickr’s a year or so after the acquisition. I think someone made a Firefox extension I downloaded. It’s amazing how attached we all can get to certain logos.
jdorfman··on Sourcegraph is no longer open source
There is no squatting happening. I personally merge PRs as soon as they come in.
jdorfman··on Goodbye, Ozempic
That was a great read thank you for sharing.
jdorfman··on Goodbye, Ozempic
I’ve been debating whether to ask my doctor about trying it. My whole adult life I’ve been struggling with my weight and tried nutritionist, apps, you name it and can’t keep the weight off for more than a year. I hate vomiting so this is making me rethink. Thanks for sharing very helpful.
jdorfman··on Code search on GitHub now requires login

I always heard it "Stah Mon!"
jdorfman··on How Wolfenstein 3D shocked the world, 30 years later
“Mein Leben” if anyone has played Wolf 3D, you know what it is.
jdorfman··on Amazon CodeWhisperer, Free for Individual Use, Is Now Generally Available
FWIW we are actively working on support for Neovim.
jdorfman··on Paul Graham is an investor in the company trying to kill Twitter
The irony is he shutdown Revue that directly competed with Substack.
jdorfman··on Open Sourcing Cody – Sourcegraph's AI-enabled editor assistant
Sorry wasn't my intention. It's free.
jdorfman··on Open Sourcing Cody – Sourcegraph's AI-enabled editor assistant
On the roadmap, no ETA.
jdorfman··on Open Sourcing Cody – Sourcegraph's AI-enabled editor assistant
Edit: It's free
jdorfman··on Using Sourcegraph to discover non-NPM JavaScript projects
Echoing Sourcegraph's CTO: It's important for OSS projects to be discoverable whether they are on npm, GitHub, or some other code host. There's a long tail of great projects that use independent code hosts. If you want us to add your project to Sourcegraph's index, please ping us: community@sourcegraph.com

jdorfman··on Tweak New Twitter
I'm going to give this a shot. I have been using "Minimal Theme for Twitter" extension for a couple of years and love it. I'm less distracted by hiding what's trending, etc.
jdorfman··on Netflix's New Chapter
Great point.
jdorfman··on Netflix's New Chapter
> Three months later Netflix cut prices and referred to Amazon’s assumed imminent entry to the space; Netflix’s stock slid again.

I never understood why Netflix would continue to become one of the largest AWS customers after Amazon entered the space. Will someone please enlighten me?

jdorfman··on Revisiting Apple’s ill-fated Lisa computer, 40 years on
What a great article. I’m a proud Ars Technica subscriber so if you enjoyed this article consider subscribing.
jdorfman··on ChatGPT is coming soon to the Azure OpenAI Service
I would definitely pay for more reliability. It’s a great piece of technology that I see myself using multiple times a day.
jdorfman··on Urllib3 in 2022
Thank you for posting this Seth! I will be adding Urllib3 to our (Sourcegraph's) Open Collective budget asap.
jdorfman··on ChatGPT Prompts
I can confirm that. I grabbed "odb" back in the day from a squatter (no repos or activity)
jdorfman··on ChatGPT Prompts
How the hell did they snag a 1 character username on GitHub?
jdorfman··on Show HN: A Visual UI to Hacker News
I like it. Maybe replace NaN with something else. It's distracting IMO.
jdorfman··on Memory Safe Languages in Android 13

This can be accomplished with cargo vet (https://mozilla.github.io/cargo-vet/how-it-works.html?highli...)

jdorfman··on Ask HN: What is the most impactful thing you've built?
I was the co-founder and lead maintainer of BootstrapCDN for 8 years.

4.3 trillion requests, 108 petabytes transfered, installed on 7 million sites (today its 10mm).

I was also the art director for the Bash logo but BootstrapCDN took the cake in terms of impact.
